JAPAN Apartment/House Tour Osaka, CHEAP Japan Airbnb in Dotonbori, Top Osaka Attractions Castle
In this episode, we give you a tour of another affordable airbnb, this time in the beautiful city of Osaka. A more laid back version of Tokyo but with equally as much to offer. Watch our video for an insight of airbnb in this amazing city with endless things to do.
This airbnb was very affordable (we paid $56CAD/5000YEN per night, perfect for budget travelers like us), centrally located, clean and the hosts were very accommodating! Located 10 mins away from Dotonbori. It is a typical Japanese house/apartment enough for 2-3 friends or a small family.

TIPS/ADVICES
›››We would recommend staying at an accommodation around Dotonbori, Namba or DenDen Town. Both are central to where all the fun touristy things are! On our second visit we stayed in Namba Town and mostly everything was walking distance away.
›››Purchase an Osaka amazing pass! This pass is a definite bang for your buck and really allows you to see what the city of Osaka has to offer. This pass allows you free access to many attractions, discounts for certain things and unlimited access to the subway!!! It was amazing!
›››Arrive to attractions EARLY in the morning. A lot of attractions can get over-crowded during prime time. Jim and I woke up early everyday and really enjoyed the quiet, peacefulness of the attractions we visited. For example, Osaka Castle and Shitennoji can get really crowded.
›››Book accommodations ahead of time especially during peak season as they get booked up fast and will be more expensive at a later date.
›››Peak season is during cherry blossom and autumn foliage times
›››Be prepare for a lot of walking!
›››Bringing a power bar - a major key if you have camera, cell phone, and etc. This is also handy if you have only one travel outlet adapter which can be very expensive ($10-$15 per adapter) to allow you to charge multiple devices.
›››For travelling groups: airbnb hands down. I found that there are more than plenty of listings around 3000-5000 yen that could accommodate 2-4 people. Far below the cost of a traditional hotel lodging.
›››Cross reference your itinerary to your potential accommodation. Google maps is a big help to figure this out. Make sure your accommodation is in close proximity to a train station.
›››My last final advice would be to CHECK THE REVIEWS!
Reading the reviews always gave me good insight on the amenities and cleanliness, the two things for me thats really important. Last thing you want is to come back to a place with dirty washrooms, no wifi, or no a/c in the middle of summer.
If anyone else has any other advice they would like to add, feel free to add it in the comment section below.

Four major Japanese companies presented their proposals to transform the former US air base at Clark, Pampanga into a smart city during a seminar sponsored by the Bases Conversion Development Authority (BCDA) and Japan External Trade Organization (JETRO) at the PICC last week.
The seminar was attended by cabinet officials led by Finance Secretary Carlos Dominguez, and a Japanese delegation headed by Dr. Hiroto Izumi, special advisor to Prime Minister Shinzo Abe and Mr. Takuma Hatano, president and CEO of the Japan Overseas Infrastructure Investment Corporation for Transport and Development (JOIN).
Officials of NEC Corporation, Hitachi, Tokyo Gas, and Softbank spoke about their projects which they could also implement in the 9,450-hectare New Clark City plan which was crafted by BCDA with the assistance of AECOM-Nippon Koei and JOIN.

Osaka Earthquake
On 18 June 2018, around 7:58 a.m. Japan Standard Time, an earthquake measuring 5.5 Mw on the moment magnitude scale struck in northern Osaka Prefecture, Japan. The earthquake's epicenter was near Takatsuki and occurred at a depth of 13.2 kilometres (8.2 mi). The Japan Meteorological Agency registered a magnitude of 6.1 Mj and an intensity of lower 6 on the shindo scale.[1]
Shaking from the earthquake was felt strongly in the prefecture and the nearby metropolitan areas of Osaka and Kyoto, temporarily disrupting electrical and gas service to 170,000 homes and buildings. The earthquake struck during rush hour, disrupting train services for several hours, and also damaged water pipes and hundreds of homes.[2] At least four people have been killed and 417 people have reported injuries.

Made at Expo - Geyser Room, Expo ’70 Osaka, Japan
A highlight of the New Zealand pavilion at Expo ‘70 in Osaka, Japan, was the Geyser Room restaurant, designed by Whanganui architect Michael Payne.
The Meat Producers Board restaurant introduced New Zealand cuisine to around 700,000 mostly Japanese diners over the course of Expo ’70.
The Geyser Room quickly gained a reputation as one of the best restaurants at the Expo with people queuing up to sample New Zealand food including lamb, fish and kiwifruit.
Every detail of the restaurant showcased New Zealand design – from the hostess uniforms, to the Crown Lynn crockery and the leather swivel chairs, made for the Expo by Mr Payne, and now one of the most significant designs in our modern furniture-making history.
Seven million people visited the New Zealand pavilion during Expo ‘70.

Japan Sennichimaye neighbourhood in Osaka 2011- 03 -04-Fri-1720hrs
This is said to be a haunted building not only because of the Sennichi Department Store Building fire that killed 118 people in 1972 but also because the Tokugawa Shogunate executed their enemy Toyotomi clan ancien régime soldiers exactly here after the Siege of Osaka in 1615.
ビックカメラなんば店(舊千日デパート、轉じて舊プランタンなんば)のエレベーターにて撮影。
The Sennichi Department Store Building fire occurred in Sennichimae, Minami-ku (now Chuo-ku), Osaka, Japan on May 13, 1972. The fire killed 118 people and injured another 78. It was the worst department store fire in terms of casualties in Japan. The building which housed the department store also contained various other businesses, including a cabaret. All the victims had been in the cabaret.
The fire started at 22:27 in the third floor, where women's dresses were sold. The cause of the fire was said to be a cigarette butt or a smouldering match left behind by a construction worker. Immediate attempts to extinguish the fire failed. The fire department was informed of the fire at 22:40 and started firefighting at 22:43. By that time, the third and fourth floors were fuming black smoke. Women's dresses for sale caught fire and helped spread the fire. The four floors from the second to the fifth were ablaze.
Poisonous gas resulting from burning construction materials filled the stairway and caused the majority of casualties. The loss was exacerbated by the locked exits in the cabaret. When elevators ceased to function, the situation turned into a mass panic. Twenty-four people attempted to escape by jumping out of windows, of whom 22 fell to their deaths. Ninety-six were found dead inside the cabaret. The fire was brought under control the next day and finally extinguished on the third day. Of the dead, 93 suffered carbon dioxide poisoning, three died from compression injuries in the chest and abdomen (meaning that they were probably trampled to death), and 22 died from jumping. Of the injured, 27 were firemen.
It was Saturday night, and the cabaret was filled to capacity, as it was one of the most popular night spots in Osaka. There were partitions in the fire exits, but they did not work. Notification to the fire station was delayed by 13 minutes. The fire shutter, which was not automatic, did not work. Multiple factors were responsible for the loss of life, including the design of the building itself, which had previously been a Kabuki theater. There was no fire sprinkler system. The existence of various different types of enterprises within one building was also a problem. The regulations and laws at the time of the construction of buildings collectively allowed these faults to occur.
At the time of the fire, there were shops directly run by the Sennichi Department Store in the first and second floors, supermarkets on the 3rd and 4th floors, stores of the same prices on the 5th floor, game corners on the 6th floor, a cabaret called Playtown which was run by an affiliated company, and a showroom haunted house and coffee house underground. It was a so-called conglomerate building with different administrators. The 6th floor was partly under construction to become a bowling alley and the 3rd floor was also under construction.
Two people from the Sennichi Department Store and two people from the Playtown Cabaret were indicted for occupational negligence resulting in fire and casualties. On November 29, 1990, the remaining three persons were finally found guilty.
Construction began in the sacred month of Muharram, on 13 May 1638. Supervised by Shah Jahan, it was completed in 1648.

Japan's Amazing Construction Sites! Safety, Precision, Organization and Funny Uniform Guys!
Every time I go back to Japan I am always amazed at how good the Japanese are at building and working in such small spaces. Roads are narrow and packed with people, yet massive construction projects are happening everywhere and the ability to keep things organized and safe is amazing to me. and I always wondered what all the old guys in blue uniforms did too... You see them everywhere and I always wondered what they do, but if you watch these guys, despite their funny uniforms, they have an extremely important job with managing the coming and goings and the traffic flow of people too around the tight construction site areas.

FIRE RESPONSE Tokyo Fire Department Shinjuku Fire Station
The Shinjuku Fire Station gets dispatched to a fire. You can see a rescue truck, two pumpers and a command van responding. The ladder was probably cancelled as the crew was in turnout gear but didn't hop in the truck. An ambulance was also responding later, however probably to another call.

JET Programme | Japanese Apartment Tour
皆さんこんにちは、Welcome to my house!
This is my 1K apartment in Japan. I live in a Leopalace and roughly pay just under ¥60000 a month (includes internet, gas, water and electricity). My apartment came somewhat furnished when I moved in as my BOE had organised that.
I am pretty much set up with my house and am very happy living here. I only have one neighbour and am on the top floor, so noise wise it's pretty quite.
If you have any questions leave them down below, and I will do my best to reply.
If you want to see what it looked like when I first moved in :

【SANRIZUKA 1985】Japanese Students Defeat Riot Police
Ok apparently this shitty translated propaganda video blew up (thx YouTube very cool).
So here's some more info on this crazy history. Because, as crazy as this video already is, it only shows one part of a much larger battle.
The Sanrizuka Crossroads engagement shown in the video is organized and led by the legendary Chūkaku-ha, the Revolutionary Communist League National Committee (革命的共産主義者同盟全国委員会). You can identify their student-fighters by their iconic white safety helmets with the marking 中核 (Central Core), their motorcycle goggles, white face masks, and Molotov cocktails.
As the Chūkaku-ha was fighting riot police back at the crossroads, the actual Narita Airport was attacked by another army! The Kakurōkyō, the Revolutionary Labourers Association (革命的労働者協会). While the Chūkaku-ha student shock troops drew police attention to Sanrizuka, the Kakurōkyō adopted more guerrilla-like tactics to sneak into the heavily defended airport.
At 5:00 pm, 40 min after the crossroads battle began, they burned the trains in Narita station, then lit up huge fires around the airport to obstruct the landing and takeoff of aircraft. 5:30 pm. Kakurōkyō members disguised as taxi drivers and travellers started a fire in the airport terminal. Airport authorities of course called the fire department.
This is the craziest part of the story:
The Kakurōkyō had prepared a fake firetruck and fire command car! And the fake firetruck had a fucking FLAMETHROWER disguised as the water hose!
A band of forlorn hope, dressed in firefighter uniforms, sneaked into the airport along with real firefighters. They shattered the windows on the control towers with pachinko ball shotguns, then planned on setting the entire control tower on fire, destroying the airport. However, their homemade flamethrower, as bad ass as it was, broke down at the last minute. The Narita Airport, although temporarily put out of operation, was saved from the worst outcome.
Officially known as the 20 October Narita Local Conflict (10.20成田現地闘争), the leftists preferred to call it the Uprising of '85 (85年蜂起戦). This is the last major battle in the Narita Problem that has haunted Japan's government since 1966.
Japan's National Police Agency was utterly humiliated as their riot police was not only pushed back at Sanrizuka but almost lost the entire airport. The mighty Chūkaku-ha, however, was also hit hard with hundreds arrested. It would never regain its former strength.
241 protesters were arrested. 16 of its leaders later convicted.
Multiple injured
No one was killed.

(As of 2019, Wikipedia now also has a very decent page on in English)
