Osaka Castle (Osakajo) in Osaka Japan
Osaka Castle is a Japanese castle in Chūō-ku, Osaka, Japan.
***
Wouldn't a park, flourishing with cherry blossoms in October be amazing?
Heck ya, it would be!
But, this was filmed back in the Spring on my first day in Japan.
I was a little early to check into my hotel, so I did a quick search for the best local places to see some and I headed to Osaka Castle.
I missed the best viewing time by a few days, but was still impressed by the flowers I saw.
The castle tower is surrounded by impressive stone walls and moats (half of them no longer with water).
I really enjoyed walking through Nishinomaru Garden, with it's 600 cherry trees. Honestly I think that, and the walk up to the castle was the best part of the experience. They've turned the inside into a museum. It was still really interesting to see the artifacts on display, but kind of busy, and I wasn't allowed to film. Shhhhhh.

오사카성은 밤이 더 아름답다 Osaka Castle Park at Night - Osakajo
It is much better to go to Osaka Castle Park at night. So much cooler and less crowded and the castle looked prettier at night.
The recommended approach to Osaka Castle is through Otemon Gate at the park's southwestern corner. The closest station is Tanimachi 4-chrome Station along the Tanimachi Subway Line and Chuo Subway Line.
The closest JR station to Osaka Castle is Osakajokoen Station on the JR Loop Line, a 10 minute, 160 yen ride from JR Osaka Station.
大阪城天守閣
The castle tower is surrounded by secondary citadels, gates, turrets, impressive stone walls and moats. The Nishinomaru Garden, encompassing the former western citadel, is a lawn garden with 600 cherry trees, a tea house, the former Osaka Guest House and nice views of the castle tower from below. Unlike most of the rest of the castle grounds, the garden requires an admission fee.
The entire Osaka Castle Park covers about two square kilometers with lots of green space, sport facilities, a multi-purpose arena (Osakajo Hall) and a shrine dedicated to Toyotomi Hideyoshi. The park is one of Osaka's most popular hanami spot during the cherry blossom season, which usually takes place in early April.

Description
————————————————————————
This is a valuable Edo Era “daimyo” (feudal lord) garden because it one of the few remaining gardens created on the grounds of a castle. The autumn leaves are at their best in late November. It is from the beauty of the autumn foliage that the garden has been nicknamed “Momijidani Garden” (Autumn Leaf Valley Garden). At Koshouan, an adjacent teahouse, you can admire the garden and rest while having some “matcha” tea and Japanese sweets.

Japan Travel: Osaka Castle (Osakajo) in Osaka
Japan travel: Osaka Castle (Osakajo) in Osaka. The construction of Osaka Castle began in 1583 at the former site of Ishiyama Honganji Temple, which had been destroyed by Oda Nobunaga thirteen years earlier. Toyotomi Hideyoshi is eyeing the castle to become the new and integrated center of Japan under the rule of Toyotomi. It was the greatest castle at the time.
However, a few years after Hideyoshi's death, Tokugawa forces attacked and destroyed the castle and ended the Toyotomi lineage in 1615. Osaka Castle was rebuilt by Tokugawa Hidetada in the 1620s, but the main castle tower was struck by lightning in 1665 and burned.
It was not until 1931 that the reconstruction of the existing castle bricks was now being built. During the war, it miraculously survived the city's airstrikes. The main repair work gave a new glamor in 1997. The castle towers are now fully modern on the inside and even have elevators for easier access. It houses an informative museum about the history of the castle and Toyotomi Hideyoshi.
The castle tower is surrounded by a secondary fortress, gates, towers, stone walls, and an impressive ditch. Nishinomaru Park, which includes the former western fortress, is a grass garden with 600 cherry trees, a tea house, a former Osaka Guest House, and a beautiful view of the castle tower from below. Unlike most of the rest of the castle grounds, the park requires an entrance fee.
The entire Osaka Castle Park covers about two square kilometers with plenty of green spaces, sports facilities, multi-purpose arena (Osakajo Hall) and a temple dedicated to Toyotomi Hideyoshi. This park is one of the most popular hanami spots in Osaka during the cherry season, which usually takes place in early April.

#OsakaCastle (Osakajo)
Osaka Castle is a popular tourist spot and a striking historical landmark in the middle of a modern urban cityscape of high-rise concrete blocks. The castle stands in an expansive lawn covered park and consists of a complex network of moats, turrets, and walls surrounding a massive central tower. Thirteen of the structures around the main tower are designated as Important Cultural Assets by the national government. The main central tower is 55 meters high and houses a museum and a viewing platform from which visitors can enjoy fantastic panoramic views of Osaka city.
Osaka Castle History
Osaka Castle was first built between 1583 and 1585 by the warlord Toyotomi Hideyoshi who ruled over Japan at that time. During Hideysohi’s lifetime the castle was constantly enlarged and improved and the town of Osaka grew with it becoming an important center of trade and politics. Much of the castle was destroyed in the wars of the early 17th century, rebuilt again in 1620, and then lost again to a fire caused by a lightning strike in 1665.
The current castle tower that we see today is a reconstruction completed in 1931. This building survived the bombing raids of World War 2, but did suffer some damage, and was again badly damaged by a typhoon in 1950. Happily the castle was completely renovated in 1997, with fresh white plaster on the walls, new tiles on the roof, restored ornaments, and gold leaf decoration. Today it stands in the midst of modern Osaka as a stunningly beautiful symbol of the city’s pride in its past.
The construction of Osaka Castle started in 1583 on the former site of the Ishiyama Honganji Temple, which had been destroyed by Oda Nobunaga thirteen years earlier. Toyotomi Hideyoshi intended the castle to become the center of a new, unified Japan under Toyotomi rule. It was the largest castle at the time.
However, a few years after Hideyoshi's death, Tokugawa troops attacked and destroyed the castle and terminated the Toyotomi lineage in 1615. Osaka Castle was rebuilt by Tokugawa Hidetada in the 1620s, but its main castle tower was struck by lightning in 1665 and burnt down.
It was not until 1931 that the present ferro-concrete reconstruction of the castle tower was built. During the war it miraculously survived the city wide air raids. Major repair works gave the castle new glamor in 1997. The castle tower is now entirely modern on the inside and even features an elevator for easier accessibility. It houses an informative museum about the castle's history and Toyotomi Hideyoshi. Inside the castle is a museum with eight floors of displays related to the castle’s history. There are historical artifacts, colorful screen painting, samurai costumes that you can try on for a fee, and a scale model of the original 16th century castle town.
On the 8th floor is the observation deck which circles the top of the tower and from which you can enjoy truly spectacular views of the city.
The Castle Park
Osaka Castle Park extends over two square kilometers, and contains grassy lawns, plum, peach and cherry blossom groves, sports facilities, the Osaka-jo Hall arena, and the Toyokuni Shrine which was first built in 1599 to commemorate Toyotomi Hideyoshi. Within the park grounds, the Nishinomaru Garden is 200 yen to enter. It has a tea house and many cherry trees which are popular in the spring, and is a good spot from which to view the castle.
The entire Osaka Castle Park covers about two square kilometers with lots of green space, sport facilities, a multi-purpose arena (Osakajo Hall) and a shrine dedicated to Toyotomi Hideyoshi. The park is one of Osaka's most popular hanami spots during the cherry blossom season, which usually takes place in early April.
The gardens and open spaces of Osaka Castle Park also make it a popular spot for enjoying nature throughout the four seasons, but especially in spring, when cherry and apricot trees are in bloom. The apricot grove east of the Ninomaru ramparts is reputed to be the largest in western Japan, with 1,270 trees of more than 100 species. The park also ranks among Japan’s best 100 spots for cherry blossom viewing, with over 3,000 trees of the somei yoshino and yamazakura varieties bathing the park in pale pink blossoms during spring.

Chillin in Osaka | Osaka Castle, Dotonbori and Takoyaki!
If you go to Osaka make sure you eat Takoyaki because it's from there BUT be careful not to burn yourself because it actually hurt pretty bad...haha. The park we raced at was called Nishinomaru Garden and there was en entrance fee of ¥200 which isn't much. During the spring it's supposed to be very beautiful there due to all the cherry blossom trees.
