Our Lady of Peace Shrine, Santa Clara, California, USA
Address: 2800 Mission College Blvd, Santa Clara, CA 95054
In August of 1980, Msgr. John Sweeny, then pastor of Our Lady of Peace Church in Santa Clara, California, fulfilled a long-time desire to give special honor to the Immaculate Heart of Mary. That month, he commissioned Charles C. Parks, a noted sculptor, of Wilmington, Delaware, to design a 32-foot stainless steel statue of Our Lady, under this title. Thus began a remarkable odyssey, of a truly extraordinary image of the Blessed Virgin, the Mother of God. After several models, the masterpiece was begun.
The statue, which some have called “the awesome Madonna,” was finished in the Summer of 1982. It stands higher than most three-story buildings. The 7200-pound statue rises to a height of thirty-two feet and rests on a twelve-foot landscaped mound. The head, hands, and feet are cast in stainless steel. The gown is constructed of welded strips of stainless steel.
Also, In this area, there is St. John Paul II statue

Featured on the video: What Child is This?
Have you ever studied the words of Isaiah 9:6-7 (they begin, For to us a child is born) and realized just how strange they are? At first glance, the grand titles and expectations seem absurd to place on a child. It’s a strange picture - a small child, hunched over like Atlas, a parliament building set on his shoulders, wearing a crown, perched on a throne, with a very troubled look on his face, as if to say, “What in the world am I doing here?” And yet, this is exactly what these verses tell us to be true. Of course, there was no actual building, no real throne, and no crown but one of thorns. But the thought is still astounding – this child, this baby wrapped in swaddling clothes, would be the fulfillment of these promises. He would be, and is, the Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. It is this astonishing prophecy that we keep in mind when we ask the question, “What child is this?”
Text:
This text, by William C. Dix, is his own modification of a poem he had written entitled “The Manger Throne.”
Tune:
Perhaps the most famous aspect of this hymn is its tune. GREENSLEEVES is an iconic medieval tune, named for the character about which the old folk song was written, Lady Green Sleeves. It is the only tune now used for Dix’s text.
1 What Child is this, who, laid to rest,
On Mary's lap is sleeping?
Whom angels greet with anthems sweet,
While shepherds watch are keeping?
Chorus:
This, this is Christ, the King,
Whom shepherds guard and angels sing:
Haste, haste to bring Him laud,
The Babe, the Son of Mary!
2 Why lies He in such mean estate,
Where ox and ass are feeding?
Good Christian, fear: for sinners here
The silent Word is pleading. [Chorus]
3 So bring Him incense, gold, and myrrh,
Come, peasant, king to own Him.
The King of kings salvation brings;
Let loving hearts enthrone Him. [Chorus]
Our Lady of Peace Monument
On the site of the first church in Alberta, near Bragg Creek, this shrine commemorates the missionary labours of Father Constantine Scollen, O.M.I., born in Ireland in 1841 who established the Mission of Our Lady of Peace in the country of the Blackfeet in 1873, and of Father Leon Doucet, O.M.I., born in France in 1847 who joined Father Scollen at this spot in 1875, and spent a lifetime as Missioaire aux Pieds-Noirs

Catholics Across Southern California Celebrate The Virgin Of Guadalupe
Half a million people are expected to come to Our Lady of Guadalupe at the Cathedral of the Lady of the Angels. Lesley Marin reports.
Virgin Mary Apparition Caught on Camera (3 photos)
A photo taken by a parishioner at Our Lady of Perpetual Help shows a illuminating human figure that appears to be the Virgin Mary. This miraculous story was reported by WGN-TV Chicago.
One north suburban Catholic Church is talking about a very thought provoking picture, shot with nothing more than an Iphone.
One woman snapped a photo last Friday in the chapel of Our Lady of Perpetual Help in Glenview and says she got so much more.
Maureen Kent has been attending Eucharistic adoration at the church for more than 2 years. Kneeling last Friday, she wanted a picture of the Eucharist or host in the monstrance, the ornate gold stand it’s placed in.
The picture showed a bright light, an image larger than a human and appearing to hover next to the host on the alter. Catholics believe the host is the True Body of Christ.
No photo-shopping, she says, no doctoring the digital image. Just what she calls a great surprise when she looked at her screen.
Her friends in the chapel also believe it is the Virgin Mary. Authentication is not, right now, a consideration by Maureen Kent or even the church. They are relishing what they call a miraculous moment, privileged to have seen and believed, they say.
Our Lady of Perpetual Help Parish is located at 1755 Grove St. in Glenview, IL
