The leaves on the mountain trees have started to change the color. The autumn grasses also gave way to brown. Oze, which spans Gunma, Fukushima, Niigata, and Tochigi pref., at over 1,700 meters above sea level, is the huge highland marsh and is created when nearby Mt. Hiuchigatake exploded thousands of years ago. The wooden boardwalk crisscrossing the marshland protects trampling and affords an up-close look at both the flora and fauna of Oze.
Beginning in mid-September and lasting until December are the season for enjoying autumn colors, with vibrant colors. The Autumn glass which is called as kusamomiji, compliments the tree line with its own flaming red color. The weather in Japan is particularly pleasant during the fall season.

About 150 kilometres north of Tokyo in Nikko National Park there is something special... something that park staff are fighting to preserve. Centuries ago a marsh was formed when a river dammed by a lava flow became full of natural debris. A marsh land resulted... an ecological masterpiece. One of the greatest threats to the wetlands is to have visitors trample it so they now traverse the area on plankways. It's unusual but effective.
