Owned by the O’Flaherty and Izzo families, who have devoted untold hours to making it an integral part of this energetic community, the pub occupies an historic 1904 building in the heart of downtown. Featuring a 35-foot bar by a local craftsman, a commercial kitchen, and a house sound system with four speakers, it’s a relaxing place to nurse a brew, grab a bite and listen to music ranging from Celtic to bluegrass.
Many nights Irish musician Patrick O’Flaherty is on stage, entertaining patrons with one of the several instruments he plays, while Andrea Izzo chats it up with folks and tends bar, drawing Guinness and craft brews from one of 12 taps. The rich wood interior, floor-to-ceiling cabinetry and hundreds of items of memorabilia add to the pub’s warmth and charm.
The owners are pursuing other projects and the Irish Pub is for sale lock, stock and barrel, including approximately $15,000 worth of alcohol. Items that will be conveyed with the purchase include 20 custom-built tables, 85 chairs, 16 barstools, and all the glasses, plates, utensils, pots and pans necessary to start operating on Day One.
The galley kitchen is outfitted with a commercial sanitizing dishwasher, a triple stainless steel sink, an American Range gas oven with four burners and a grill, a sandwich prep table, a salamander broiler, a Kolpak walk-in cooler, an Artic Air refrigerator and an Artic Air freezer, and wire storage racks.
The pub has a dart room with its own separate Washington Street entrance, and a private office in the rear that overlooks the main floor.
The top level, accessed by a staircase on Washington Street, is currently configured as the owners’ private quarters but could be readily converted into as many as 4 small apartments with private baths. Kitchen appliances on this level include two refrigerators and a chest freezer. A Maytag washer and Kenmore dryer are also upstairs. Double doors lead from the kitchen onto a large private deck.
Rumor has it the large, unfinished basement presently in use as a storeroom was a speakeasy during Prohibition. Over its long history the building has served as a theater, a hardware store, a gift shop, an antique store, an art gallery and a coffee shop. It seems to have finally found its calling as an Irish pub. The presence of the nearby 800-student West Virginia School of Osteopathic Medicine has certainly contributed the pub’s success. Doctors who graduated from WVSOM still stop by with their families and friends to grab a pint and reminisce.
Over its decade of existence the Irish Pub on Washington Street has hosted proposals, engagement parties, weddings, memorial services, costume parties, and benefits for local causes of every kind. An annual Christmas celebration takes place at the beginning of the holidays, and Mardi Gras and St. Patrick’s Day draw large crowds. The pub sells more Guinness than anywhere in West Virginia, Kentucky and Ohio, with the exception of the large metropolitan areas.

The following is a list of ethnic slurs (ethnophaulisms) that are, or have been, used as insinuations or allegations about members of a given ethnicity, or to refer to them in a derogatory (that is, critical or disrespectful), pejorative (disapproving or contemptuous), or otherwise insulting manner.
Some of the terms listed below (such as Gringo, Yank, etc.) are used by many people all over the world as part of their ordinary speech or thinking without any intention of causing offence.
For the purposes of this list, an ethnic slur is a term designed to insult others on the basis of race, ethnicity, or nationality. Each term is listed followed by its country or region of usage, a definition, and a reference to that term.
Ethnic slurs may also be produced as a racial epithet by combining a general-purpose insult with the name of ethnicity, such as dirty Jew, Russian pig, etc. Other common insulting modifiers include dog, filthy, etc. Such terms are not included in this list.

Winfield Scott (June 13, 1786 – May 29, 1866) served as a general in the U.S. Army longer than any other person in American history. He is rated as one of the Army's most senior commissioned officers, and is ranked by many historians as the best American commander of his time. Scott was also a candidate for the Whig Party presidential nomination three times; selected in 1852, he lost the general election to Franklin Pierce.
Over the course of his 53-year career, he commanded forces in the War of 1812, the Black Hawk War, the Mexican–American War, and the Second Seminole War. He was the army's senior officer at the start of the American Civil War, and conceived the Union strategy known as the Anaconda Plan, which was used to defeat the Confederacy. He served as Commanding General of the United States Army for twenty years, longer than any other holder of the office.
Scott was born and educated in Virginia; after brief attendance at the College of William and Mary in Williamsburg, Virginia and study in a law office, he attained admission to the bar. Scott practiced law briefly, and served in the Virginia Militia during the Chesapeake–Leopard Affair of 1807. In 1808, Scott was commissioned as a captain in the Light Artillery of the United States Army. He rose to prominence during the War of 1812, and attained promotion to brigadier general. Scott remained in the Army after the war, served in several command positions, and carried out high level staff tasks, including frequent updates to the Army's field regulations. After missing out on appointment as the Army's commanding general in 1828, he received it in 1841; he served in this post until his retirement in 1861, shortly after the start of the American Civil War.
Known as Old Fuss and Feathers and the Grand Old Man of the Army, Scott was a national hero after the Mexican–American War, where he led one of the two invading armies; he later served as occupying military governor of Mexico City. His stature was so high that in 1852, the Whig Party passed over its own incumbent President, Millard Fillmore to nominate Scott as their candidate in that year's presidential election. Scott lost to Democratic Party nominee Franklin Pierce in the general election, but remained a popular national figure, receiving a brevet promotion to lieutenant general in 1855, becoming the first American since George Washington to hold that higher rank.At the start of the Civil War, Scott took steps to defend the national capital city of Washington, D.C. and ensure the successful inauguration of Abraham Lincoln as the 16th president in March 1861. Though too old and infirm to take the field, Scott served as Lincoln's principal military adviser at the start of the war, and conceived of the Anaconda Plan; though dismissed by critics who regarded the plan's extended and prolonged blockade of southern ports a ...

He has won the All-Ireland championship on the button accordion, and is a veteran of bands such as The Irish Tradition, The Green Fields of America, and Trian, He is a native of Brooklyn, New York, and learned to play from Sean McGlynn, a master and proponent of the East Galway style that now characterizes the playing of many of the country's finest Irish accordion players. In 2016 he was awarded a National Heritage Fellowship by the National Endowment for the Arts.
