Best Halloween in Jerome Arizona and Sedona AZ Hiking, Vortexes, & Dia de Muertos
Todays travel RV vlog takes us to Sedona, AZ in for Halloween! Liz's mom is along for the ride. We enjoy a spooky ghost tour in Jerome, AZ, an old mining ghost town that is known for being the most haunted city in the United States.
We hike the beautiful red rocks of Sedona visiting a few vortexes including bell rock, cathedral rock, and airport vortex. To finish off our road trip in Sedona, we go to the most amazing festival, the Dia De Los Muertos celebration at Tlaquepaque Arts and Crafts Village. We enjoy great music, see beautiful decorations, Dia de los Muertos face paint, and have a blast! After our awesome time there, we officially think this is the best place to be if you full time RV for Halloween!
Time we were there: End of October - Early Nov.
Temps: High 71° and Low 41°
Shoulder Season - but still busy!

Arizona
Join James Hill, intern at the U.S. Embassy, talking about Arizona, the Grand Canyon State. Learn about Hopi kachina dolls and religion and find out which five Cs represent Arizona's economy. #50states #AZ
Transcript:
Hello, my name is Cody Hill. I would like to share some information with you about the state I was born in, Arizona.
Before the first Europeans set foot in what would be known as Arizona, the land was inhabited by many different tribes of people. The Navajo, Hopi, Apache, and Pima are just four of the twenty-one federally recognized tribes of Arizona.
When my father was 2 years old, his family moved to Keams Canyon, Arizona. It is located on the Navajo Nation Indian Reservation, in north-eastern Arizona. He lived there until he was 17. During these 15 years, the Hill family became very close to the Navajo, Hopi and Tewa people. My grandfather, or Papa, as I have always called him, ran the trading post, gas station, and service station. My grandmother ran the motel. Before they left Keams Canyon, in 1975, both the Navajos and Hopis gave speeches of gratitude for Papa's 15 years of loyal service to the people, tribes, and community. To this day my grandparents' house is adorned with decorative pots, beautiful weaves, intricate sand paintings, and a handful of Kachinas.
That was one aspect of Arizona that both frightened and fascinated me. While visiting my grandparents as a boy, I would fall asleep in the shadows of the kachina dolls they had on display in their living room. In my sleep these dolls would come to life and pursue me. When I woke up, the kachinas were back on the mantel and I would ask Papa about how he got them and what each one represented.
The kachinas that scared me as a boy are wooden representations of forces of nature, revered ancestors, or important historical events. They are used to teach children religion and history. People also dress up as kachinas to perform religious ceremonies. The Hopi religion, which incorporates many kachinas into its belief system, is based around the goal of becoming in harmony with the instructions of the Creator of the Earth. This involves having complete reverence and respect for all things.
Let me now tell you a little bit about how Arizona got to where it is today. Arizona's economy has been based upon their 5 Cs; copper, cattle, cotton, citrus, and climate. Copper is still an important industry for Arizona today. It produces 2/3 of the nation's supply of copper. The cattle industry dates back to the 1690s with Spanish ranchers. During the Civil War, many Texas ranches were over grazed. Consequently, ranchers moved their cattle over to Arizona.
Interestingly, the first woman to sit on the US Supreme Court, Sandra Day O'Connor, grew up on a ranch in south-eastern Arizona.
Cotton became a booming industry for Arizona once advanced irrigation systems were introduced. At one point, Arizona was the nation's largest producer of cotton. Papa even spent ten years of his life, keeping the iron in the field as he put it. He was a mechanic in charge of keeping 6 cotton pickers, 8 tractors, 4 semis and a few trucks running.
Arizona is one of the four states in the US with significant citrus production. I have fond memories of picking grapefruits from my grandparents' yard to enjoy for breakfasts.
Arizona's climate and natural wonders make it a very attractive destination for tourists and retirees.
Arizona is no doubt best known for the Grand Canyon. Formed by the Colorado River, this natural wonder of the world is about 17 million years in the making. Its 277 miles long, about 1 mile deep, and in some places up to 18 miles wide. About 5 million tourists come to visit the Grand Canyon every year.
The Grand Canyon became a national park in 1919; just seven years after Arizona became a state. Arizona was actually the 48th state to enter the union and the last of one in the contiguous United States. Arizona has the 16th largest population of the 50 states and is the 6th largest state. Over a quarter of the state is reservation lands.
Some every famous people have called Arizona their home. The renowned architect Frank Lloyd Wright spent the last 22 years of his life in Scottsdale. Emma Stone didn't move from Phoenix to Hollywood to launch her acting career until she was 15. Steven Spielberg discovered his love for making movies while working on a Boy Scout merit badge in Arizona, where he spent the majority of his childhood. The famous civil and workers' rights activist, Cesar Chavez was also from Arizona.
For more information on Arizona, simply visit Arizona.gov. I hope you have enjoyed this brief overview of the Grand Canyon State. Make sure to come and visit sometime soon.
Off-the-trail: Mountain Biking in Sedona, Arizona
Lars Romig has been mountain biking in the Verde Valley hills of Sedona, Arizona his entire life. While cycling may have started as a hobby, Lars’ has become an outspoken advocate for the sport, and he's been credited with introducing the culture to the region. HAVE A PSYCHEDELIC DAY!
Road TRIP!! Stuck In A CAR For OVER 20 HOURS!
We are stuck in the car for 20+ hours on a road trip across the United States! This isn't my life! We drove across Texas, New Mexico, Colorado, Arizona and Utah to pick up Aaliyah from a youth summer camp. On the way we stopped in New Mexico visiting Roswell (No UFOs seen) as well as Breaking Bad filming locations in Albuquerque including Walter White's house and the Car Wash.
Once we picked up Aaliyah we toured two campuses (BYU & UVU) reminiscing and taking in all of the amazing architecture. The Roots of Knowledge (Stained Glass Scavenger Hunt Exhibit) at Utah Valley University was awesome! The girls were totally into it and we were too. After all was said and done we took our journey to Park City for a some R&R. This is day 1 of our road trip to Utah!

RV Nomad Life | Boondocking in Mojave Valley, AZ: Beautiful Scenery
We traveled west from Sedona, AZ to Oatman, AZ to a dispersed camping, BLM area in the Mojave Valley. Although we couldn't find much about the area before exploring, we were able to get out and explore, taking county road 10 all the way to Bullhead and Laughlin, NV.
We started seeing some smoke coming up from the engine bay and couldn't figure out what was causing it. We drove it to Findlay Chevrolet so they could start looking at it. The technician who came out to look at the truck said they just had a 3500 Silverado Dually that was doing the same thing. Basically, a weak clamp on the diesel line breaks and drips diesel into the exhaust. Or something similar to that. They were able to get the part ordered and it was covered under the warranty! They gave us a 2018 GMC Terrain to drive in the mean time.
We finished installing the 1600watt solar system! We will discuss the features more as we learn about them throughout our journey. It is an incredible difference to have quiet power running the household, and it has enabled us to travel the country without plugging in unless there is enough cloud cover to disrupt the charging.

PAINTING A GIANT ARIZONA FLAG TIME LAPSE
The table used is 6 foot by 4 1/2 foot. It was full of stains, nicks, scratches, and dings. Our efforts to sand it down showed us that the top layer of wood was basically paper thin and if you went too deep, a different wood underneath would come through. Thanks to my nieces spilling their ravioli and jello on the table, it was impossible to sand that out without going too deep. So, all efforts to stain it to a light wood color went out the window. Instead, we decided to do something awesome. I hope you enjoy the time lapse!

We Are Making Changes ???? Full Time RV Family
We are making some changes to help us save money as we travel. Little changes like not eating out and reducing our expenses. Exploring Gatlinburg, Tennessee in today's vlog. We loved exploring The Village. Josh got his favorite donuts from the Donut Friar and also his favorite HIghlander Grogg coffee blend. It was a fun day and we even found parking for our dually. Josh has a lot of memories from Gatlinburg which is why it is one of his favorite places.

OUR STORY
We are Josh and Kali from Seattle, Washington and are now growing their full time RV family on the road. In 2015 we decided to change our lives. We sold everything we owned bought a RV and a truck starting living in our RV full time in 30 days! Full time rv living was a major change for us. We hadn't made any plans to change to this rv life until one day it hit us we couldn't have the American Dream and travel to. Choosing to travel meant downsizing our life and becoming minimalists. It was the BEST decision we have ever made. Now we plan to travel non-stop in our 36ft. fifth wheel full time. Join the adventure as we RV across the United States (US)

I took a day trip to the Petrified Forest National Park and Painted Desert in Arizona to explore the fossils and remnants of the region from the triassic period (200 million years ago), as well as Puebloan history. It is one of my favorite National Parks in the United States.

Monument Valley _ Rain God Mesa _ Arizona
Monument Valley and Rain God's Mesa near Kayenta, AZ, a tribute to Indigenous Peoples' Day, a holiday that celebrates the history and contributions of the indigenous peoples of North AmericaIt is observed on the second Monday of October, thus coinciding with Columbus Day, a United States federal holiday commemorating the arrival of Christopher Columbus in the Americas in 1492.
The holiday is increasingly controversial due to the catastrophic impact of the arrival of European settlers on Native Americans.
Consequently, several states do not recognize the holiday, and others celebrate it as Indigenous Peoples' Day as a counter-celebration and protest against Columbus Day: South Dakota officially celebrates Native American Day on the same day as Columbus Day, and other states have an American Indian Day (eg. Tennessee and Nevada) or American Indian Heritage Day. The dates differ from state to state. The state of Vermont and the city of Phoenix, Arizona, declared their first Indigenous Peoples' Day in 2016.
