BANGKOK FLOWER MARKET - Pak Klong Talad
Bangkok's 24 hour Flower Market is one of the 'must-see' attractions of the city. It is the largest wholesale and retail fresh flower market and receives a vast quantity of fresh flowers from both nearby provinces and further afield, and selling them to a mix of wholesale and consumer trade. Pak Klong Talad is at its busiest around midnight, as huge deliveries arrive for the Bangkok florists keen to stock their own shops and market stalls for the next day

Bangkok Flower Market (Pak Klong Talad) is the biggest wholesale and retail fresh flower market in Bangkok. The market has all kinds of popular flowers and flora-related items, including roses, forget me nots, orchids, lilies and more. Most of them sold in packs of 50 or 100 flowers in each, and prices are amazingly cheap. Part of the Old City, Bangkok Flower market is located on Chak Phet Road near Saphan Phut or the Memorial Bridge. Shops and vendors are housed inside two to three-storey shop-houses on both sides of the main road. The market lies just south of Wat Pho (Temple of the Reclining Buddha) and has access to a river pier, so it makes for a great one-day trip when combined with other historical attractions in the Old City.

Pak Khlong Talat (Thai: ปากคลองตลาด: market at the mouth of the canal) is a market in Bangkok, Thailand that sells flowers, fruits, and vegetables. It is the primary flower market in Bangkok[1][2] and has been cited as a place[] of symbolic values to Bangkok residents.[3] It is located on Chak Phet Road and adjacent side-streets, close to Memorial Bridge.[2] Though the market is open 24 hours, it is busiest before dawn, when boats and trucks arrive with flowers from nearby provinces.[4][5]
The market has a long history. During the reign of Rama I (17821809), a floating market took place on the site of the modern Pak Khlong Talat; by the reign of Rama V (18681910), it had changed to a fish market.[2] The fish market was eventually converted to today's produce market, which has existed for over 60 years.[1][2] The market's focus has shifted from produce to flowers as the Talat Thai market on the outskirts of Bangkok has become a more attractive site for produce wholesaling.[1]
Most of the flowers sold in the market are delivered from Nakhon Pathom, Samut Sakhon, and Samut Songkhram provinces, though flowers that require cooler growing temperatures may come from as far away as Chiang Mai or Chiang Rai.[2] The market's produce selection is extensive and is delivered from across the country.[1]
The market accommodates both consumers and wholesalers and has a wide variety of customers. Many local florists visit the market in the early morning hours to stock their shops for the coming day.[6] The urban poor who make a living stringing and selling phuang malai (flower garlands) buy sacks of jasmine and marigold blossoms.[6] Though the market is documented in guidebooks,[7] it receives few foreign tourists.[6]

Pak Khlong Talat Flower Market in Bangkok - Thailand 4K Travel Channel
Pak Khlong Talat is Bangkok's largest flower market. It is opened 24 hours a day and offers fresh flowers from the whole country. In addition to flowers, fruit and vegetables are also sold. Pak Khlong Talat is located at Chak Phet street and in the adjacent side streets nearby the Phra-Phutthayotfa bridge.
During the time of Rama I (1782-1809) it was still a floating market. Hence the name, which means market at the mouth of the channel. Under Rama V, it was transformed into a fish market. 60 years ago it finally received its present function.
We were surprised by the huge offer of flowers and asked us: Who's going to buy so many flowers in this region, where already everything grows and proliferates ?. The answer is relatively simple: Hotels and temples. Since the market is a wholesale market, many florists buy ahead for the daily needs. Garland sellers also stock up on flowers here.
We watch the hustle and bustle and the artfully designed floral arrangements, before we go to King Rama I Monument. The monument is located in front of the Phra-Phutthayotfa Bridge (Memorial Bridge), which was opened by Rama VII in 1932 and commemorates Rama I.
Opposite the huge square is the the Wat Ratchaburana. After the founding of Bangkok, the leftover Buddha statues of the country were stored here. During the war it was heavily damaged by bombing and rebuilt by the abbot Phra Khuna Charawat and the local population from 1960 - 1962.
Via some side streets, we return to the flower market, where we can watch a restorer repairing a shrine.
Later in the evening we go past the Ananta Samakhom Throne Hall of Dusit Palace, the summer residence of King Rama V and Rama VI.

Bangkok Flower Market - Pak Khlong Talat - Bangkok attractions
Watch all our THAILAND TRAVEL VIDEOS, Link in comments section below. The Bangkok Flower Market (Pak Khlong Talat), the cities biggest flower market, is an attraction not to be missed when visiting Bangkok, the capital city of Thailand. As the name implies the Bangkok Flower Market is a huge flower market and also a vegetable market and fruit market. This market is open 24 hours a day but is at its most busy at dawn when fresh flowers, vegetables and fruits arrive in trucks and boats from the nearby provinces.
This is the time when businesses such as hotels, restaurants and florists come to choose the best flowers for use at the hotel + restaurant or to tie bouquets at the florist. There is a particular abundance of Marigold and jasmine flowers (orange and yellow colors) and orchids, roses, lotus buds in all sorts of colors imaginable. I visited this market around 11:00 a.m. and there was still plenty to see. Don´t forget to visit the fruit and vegetable part of the market which is equally fascinating and exciting to walk through. You can hear in the video how excited I am about the asparagus. A huge bunch of asparagus cost around 150 Baht. Also watch out for the Ginger being hand carved into strips or the huge piles of green and red chilies.
Entrance to the flower market is free and it is very well worth a visit.
The Pak Khlong Talat Market is found on Chak Phet Road close to the Memorial Bridge along the Chao Phraya river. Catch a water taxi or Chao Phraya River Express to Saphan Phut Chao Phraya pier and walk from there or simply take a taxi or Tuk Tuk. You will know when you are there... Flower Market is not just seeing flowers, there is a secret meaning how we using them for.
Flower Market ‘Pak Khlong Talat’
Pak means mouth
Khlong Means canal
Talat means market
The market is located on the mount of the canal.
Nowadays is the biggest wholesale and retail fresh flower market in Bangkok. It opens 24 hours and all flowers are sold out every day!
There are many kinds of flowers such as orchids, jasmine garlands, marigolds, roses and etc. All of these flowers are delivered from the provinces nearby Bangkok.
When you visit the flower market, you will amaze how inexpensive prices of all these flowers are. As the climate in Thailand is strong humidity all year round, we can produce all flowers very easy and affordable prices. All Thais would buy flowers almost every day to use as an offering to Buddhist, Hindu temples, spirit houses or use all special occasions.
In the evening time, all wholesalers bring in truckloads of freshly prepare flowers, while traders and retailers come to buy their stock in bulk. There is imported species such as tulips, snapdragons, iris, lisianthus, delphinium and much more. Some vendors also arrange handmade marigold bouquets, flower garlands, floral accessories for weddings or any special occasions.
I would recommend you add this Flower Market on your travel day in Bangkok tour as the location is very close to all the major sites in Bangkok of The Grand Palace & The Emerald Buddha Temple, The Reclining Buddha Temple ‘Wat Pho’, The Temple of Dawn ‘Wat Arun’.
You will fascinate and experience the round-the-clock activity and bustle of an authentic working market. You can ‘The Real Thais’ very well.
