Fire protection for listed buildings – D+H Österreich at the Palais Ferstel
Whenever architectural conservation is combined with fire protection, there are many obstacles to overcome — Palais Ferstel in Vienna was no exception. The fire protection technology has been equipped with nearly invisible chain drives, smoke vent control panels and buttons, as well as optical smoke detectors and linear detectors. This report on this exciting project was written by Alfred Strohmayer, Managing Director of D+H in Vienna.

18. März bis 26. Juni 2016, Winterpalais -

18 March to 26 June 2016, Winter Palace -
Europe is rich in important picture galleries. But how did their fame spread in the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries? The exhibition Princely Splendour – The Power of Pomp in Prince Eugene’s Winter Palace reveals how superb collections became widely known via lavishly illustrated publications, so-called Galeriewerke or “gallery albums”. With the aid of numerous loans from all over Europe, the show traces the history of this type of publication and demonstrates how it contributed to successively making important private collections accessible to the public.

Schloss Schönborn learn from the PRO
Schloss Schörnborn is more than just a golf club. Playing at Schörnborn is an encounter with Austrian history every step of the way. The magnificently restored castle that is available to the club today was built between 1712 and 1717 by Lukas von Hildebrandt as the summer residence for the then Imperial Vice Chancellor, Friedrich Karl von Schönborn. Experiencing sport and nature come together on the 104 hectare castle grounds - the site of the golf course opened in 1989. In contrast to many other golf courses, the landscape was not artificially modelled but perfectly utilized as an existing framework. The stylish atmosphere of both the castle and grounds also makes its mark on the club. The woods with their old trees always come into play on the 18-hole course in the castle grounds, and are always a challenge for the golfer. In particular the large oak tree that stands exactly in the centre of the 18th fairway, is already a prominent landmark for the tee-off hole on the red course. The greens are well undulated, exceptionally fast and in perfect condition. Before the 2005 golfing season, new additional bunkers were placed at strategically important positions.
A simultaneous extension of the water features at holes 6 and 17 make the game even more appealing. You can spend memorable hours on Schloss Schönborn. The park and the castle settings alone are worth a visit. And for every golfer,
the fact that you can also play a great game here clinches the matter.

Herbert Boeckl (1894-1966) numbers among the chief exponents of Modern Art in Austria. He was a prominent mediator of the Modernist movement’s crucial artistic ideas, with his career spanning the period from before the First World War and the interwar years to the time of reconstruction after 1945. As self-taught painter he exercised a lasting influence on Austrian art production with his views on art and aesthetics, first as a professor and later as a principal of the Vienna Academy of Fine Arts.
