Dal 1506 | Since 1506 - Palazzo Antinori

On February 2nd, 1506 Niccolò di Tommaso Antinori, one of the most promising and influential men in Florence at that time, bought Palazzo Antinori (known as Palazzo Boni) for 4000 florins.
It was designed and built between 1461 and 1469 by architect Giuliano da Maiano, an apprentice of Brunelleschi, and was further embellished in 1520 with a garden created by Baccio D’Agnolo, another prestigious architect of the same era. Palazzo Antinori represents one of the most well known examples of Florentine Renaissance architecture.
Since that time, over 500 years, Palazzo Antinori has always been the family’s private residence but served also as headquarters for their entrepreneurial ventures and since 1957 home of the Cantinetta Antinori, the family’s historic restaurant wine bar.

Palazzo Antinori Corsini a Firenze in Borgo Santa Croce.

Tignanello with Piero Antinori part.1 #036
Marchese Piero Antinori (born July 16, 1938 in the Palazzo Antinori in Florence) is an Italian wine entrepreneur. He is President of the global family business Marchesi Antinori Srl. Marchese Piero Antinori created in 1971 with the top wine Tignanello the first supertuscan and thus renewed the Italian top viticulture from scratch.
The Italian noble family Antinori in Tuscany has been dedicated to viticulture for 26 generations and is one of the largest and most important wine producers and trading companies in Italy. Founder was Giovanni di Piero Antinori in 1385. He came from a Florentine merchant family with a long winemaking tradition. Giovanni became successful, and wine production, along with the silk trade and international banking business, took an important position in the family’s activities.
In the early 1970s, the Marchesi Antinori experimented in the core zone of Chianti with the classic Chianti grape Sangiovese and renounced for the first time on the then prescribed for the Chianti Classico white wine. Since this did not correspond to the (DOC) production rules for the Chianti Classico, the very high-quality wine could only be offered as Vino da Tavola, in the lowest quality level.
The success was still sensational, especially since the Marchesi also use barriques, which was then completely unknown in Italy. From 1975, French grape varieties such as Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc were integrated into the cuvée (80% Sangiovese, 15% Cabernet Sauvignon and 5% Cabernet Franc).
The Tignanello was, together with the Sassicaia, the starting signal for the modernization of Italian viticulture in Tuscany and has found numerous imitators. Antinori still opposes the regulations of the Consorzio Vino Chianti Classico with the Tignanello (and other top wines) and deliberately markets the Tignanello as the wine of the Indicazione Geografica Tipica (IGT), outside the classification of the Chianti Classico DOCG (November 7. 2011).

The Davanzati Palace takes its name from its third owners Davanzati family. It is an example of a Florentine noble house of the fourteenth century,
Its architectural structure represents an example of 13th century home showing the transition stage from the medieval tower house to a Renaissance building.
The Museum also displays a very fine collection of lacework ranging from the 16th to the 20th centuries and samplers.
The best feature is its wallpaper.

Via De' Tornabuoni – Palazzo Strozzi – Florence – Audio Guide – MyWoWo Travel App
Hi, I'm Debbie, your personal guide. Together with MyWoWo, I'd like to welcome you to one of the wonders of the world.
Today I'll accompany you through Via de' Tornabuoni.
Let's take a stroll along the most elegant street in Florence!
This beautiful, straight road where you can indulge yourself in luxury shopping as well as admire churches and historic buildings is dedicated to one of the great noble families of Florence's history. It runs along the western side of the ancient Roman city, from Antinori Square up to the Arno River and the Santa Trinità Bridge.
Its present appearance full of fashion, jewelry, and exclusive artisan shops is the result of a successful regularization of the 1800s. On either side you can see noble palaces from the 15th to the 17th century, and at the beginning and end two monumental churches.
Via de' Tornabuoni is a fundamental reference point in Florence's historic center, and you will often pass it getting from one monument to the next. If you want to explore it as it deserves, I suggest starting from Palazzo Antinori. On the other side of the street you'll notice the beautiful façade of the church of San Gaetano, one of the few Baroque buildings in Florence. It is a typical seventeenth-century church full of statues, bas-reliefs, stuccoes, and paintings, including a canvas by Pietro da Cortona….

An Italian Adventure: ANTINORI NEL CHIANTI CLASSICO
We spent a marvellous morning with Albiera Antinori, a member of the 26th generation of the Antinori family, who is now leading the charge towards seven centuries in the wine business. Albiera Antinori is the president of Marchesi Antinori with the continuous close support of her two sisters, Allegra and Alessia, each actively involved in the business. Like her father, the Marchese Piero Antinori, the women have paid homage to the traditions of their homeland while continuing to explore all that is possible in the modern wine world.
The Marchese Antinori, is the current Honorary President of the company, but make no mistake, change is in the wind as exemplified by our tour of the spectacular new Antinori nel Chianti Classico facility in Bargino, about a forty minute drive south of Florence. It’s been over 100 years since the entire company has come together under one roof and as the Marchese remarked, it’s going to be special for all the employees to experience the smells and the air of excitement that surrounds the harvest every year. Please join us on our latest leg of our Italian adventure, as we explore the commitment of the Antinori family to the noble sangiovese grape and the renaissance of Chianti Classico.
