PALAZZO FALSON HISTORIC HOUSE MUSEUM
Palazzo Falson Historic House Museum is one of the oldest buildings still standing in Mdina, with its origins dating back to the early 13th century. Its most recent owner and resident, Captain Olof Frederick Gollcher (1889-1962), was a distinguished man who received a number of honours. He was a philanthropist and a passionate collector of objets d’art and historical items, putting together the extraordinarily rich collection of antiques now on display in this Palazzo. The collection includes Baroque paintings, antique silver, furniture, jewellery, oriental rugs, arms and armour, as well as a remarkable library containing over 4,500 books and some highly valuable manuscripts.
A roof-top café enjoying sweeping views of the island and a gift shop which stocks museum related publications, books on Maltese art and history together with high quality giftware, complements this Museum. Several events, workshops and lectures as well as an annual temporary exhibition are held throughout the year.

The Museum is open from Tuesday to Sunday between 10am and 5pm (last entries at 4pm). It is closed on Mondays.

SECRETS OF PALAZZO FALSON - An Augmented Reality Game
Enter into a world of fantasy inspired by the artefacts of Palazzo Falson Historic House Museum with the new augmented reality (AR) game. In a first of its kind for Malta, Secrets of Palazzo Falson is an innovative app launched through a joint partnership between the Vodafone Malta Foundation and Fondazzjoni Patrimonju Malti. The AR game invites visitors to unlock the mysteries surrounding the death of the game’s lead protagonist Lady Caterina. It is a fully inclusive AR game that provides a Maltese and English narration and it is also text based for the benefit of the hearing-impaired community.
Secrets of Palazzo Falson can be downloaded for free on a mobile or tablet upon purchase of a ticket at Palazzo Falson Historic House Museum in Mdina. The game is suitable for ages 12+. Use of own headphones are recommended. The entrance ticket also entitles the visitor to tour the museum and is open from Tuesday to Sunday from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm (last entry at 4:00 pm). PALAZZO FALSON, in Mdina, was the former home of Capt Olof Frederick Gollcher OBE (1889-1962), the son of a prosperous shipping merchant of Swedish descent. Gollcher was an artist, scholar and philanthropist, but also a discerning collector of objets d’art and historical objects. Palazzo Falson was not only his home, but also a setting for his works of art and antiques.
CASA ROCCA PICCOLA, in Valletta, is the only privately owned property open to the public in Valletta and has a fascinating variety of different things to see. Originally built in the 16th Century for Don Pietro La Rocca, a Knight of Malta, it is now the family ancestral home of the 9th Marquis de Piro and his family. There are literally hundreds of magnificent things to see.
PALAZZO PARISIO, in Naxxar, is a 19th century stately home with a history, architecture and interior unique in Malta. Originally built in 1733 by the Portuguese Grand Master Manoel de Vilhena, who ruled the island during the time of the Knights of St. John, it was later bought and embellished by Marquis Giuseppe Scicluna in 1898. Described as a miniature Versailles, it is a glorious showcase of Maltese and Italian craftsmanship.

Description:
During the 1950’s Olof Gollcher tried to trace his ancestors and during this talk Lindhé will answer some of the questions he had not managed to resolve about the early family history. The narrative of this presentation begins with a letter from the authorities in Danzig, continues in the archipelago of Gothenburg and the harbours of Stockholm before reaching Malta. Tracing the family history through the centuries, Lindhé will also tell fascinating stories that relate to Consular Archives, the Swedish author Fredrika Bremer and an Egyptian mummy.
Biography:
Cecilia Lindhé holds a PhD in Comparative Literature from Uppsala University. She is Director of the Centre for Digital Humanities and one of the coordinators within The Centre for Critical Heritage Studies at the University of Gothenburg. Her current research spans ancient/medieval rhetorical and aesthetic theory and digital materiality, focussing especially on how to engage heritage and archival collections in digital environments. Currently, Lindhé is initiating two research projects related to Malta: One about the Gollcher family and one about Scandinavian travellers to Malta 1650–1950.
