Piazza dei Signori, also known as Piazza Dante, is a square located in the historic center of Verona, near Piazza delle Erbe. The square was created in the Middle Ages by the development of the palaces La Scala, and assumed from the outset functions, administrative and political representation. The square is framed by some monumental buildings linked by arcades and loggias. For about a year Piazza Dante is crossed every Wednesday night by hundreds of young people and college students who have chosen it as a place to meet and socialize. Among guitars, flamenco dancing and battles of capoeira has quickly established itself as the new social phenomenon of Verona, involving more and more people and also attracting numerous tourists that populate the city in the summer. In the middle of the seventeenth century was given by the mayor of Verona, the construction of a fountain, which was built later by Peter German. Already at the end of the century it was decided that it was insufficient to decorate a square so monumental, so it was demolished. At the center of the square was erected a new monument in 1865: it was decided to place you a statue of Dante, who for a time had been housed in its own building overlooking the square, and which was the sixth centenary of the birth. The statue was made by Ugo Zannoni Carrara marble: supported by a pedestal, has a height of three meters. It was inaugurated on May 14, 1865. The bronze model is preserved in the collections of the Gallery of Modern Art Achille Forti. On the square are many buildings of great historical and artistic importance. The Palazzo della Ragione was built in the late twelfth century and the facade was modified to some extent in the nineteenth century. On the right you can move through an arc to the Old Market. To the side of the building you can see Cansignorio, semi-hidden, the Romanesque church of Santa Maria Antica, a small church loved by the Scala family. On site there is also the tomb of Can Grande della Scala. A wrought iron gate, ornamental friezes shows in the symbol of the scale, and the Scaliger tombs are the remains of Mastino II della Scala and Cansignorio della Scala. The palace of the Podesta is located near the church of Santa Maria Antica; built by the Della Scala family, brings the typical Ghibelline battlements. The Venetians, in 1404, opened a new portal and added on top of the lion of St. Mark. The loggia of the Council, traditionally known as loggia by Fra 'Giocondo is located next to the palace of the Podesta and was commissioned by the City of Verona, for meetings of the Council of country. At the end of its construction has been postponed to 1476.

Piazza delle Erbe (or more simply Piazza Erbe ) is one of Mantua's main squares. It began to take shape when the municipal city , towards the end of the twelfth century , began to expand beyond the Voltone of San Pietro , beyond the ancient Roman city that insisted in the places then built of the current Piazza Sordello .
A vast unpaved land on the eastern side of the Monastery of Sant'Andrea was destined for a boario hole to keep the cattle market. Transferred the latter in a more peripheral place, the space in front of the via di Sant'Andrea, now Via Broletto, where shops had already been built rented to merchants, was divided in two by the Palazzo del Podestà (also called Palazzo del Broletto) and transformed in the administrative heart of the Municipality. On the eastern side of the part that will become Piazza delle Erbe, the Palazzo della Ragione was built . On the square that was creating, already overlooked the Rotonda di San Lorenzo , Romanesque style , built by Matilde di Canossa , which in its circular structure was reminiscent ofHoly Sepulcher , in this exalting its auxiliary function with respect to the Most Precious Blood of Christ preserved and venerated in the nearby Basilica of Sant'Andrea.
With the domination of the Bonacolsi and the Gonzagas successively, the administrative center and the political power moved on to the new Piazza San Pietro (now Piazza Sordello). The medieval buildings of Piazza Erbe underwent alterations and renovations over the centuries. The sequence of houses that housed the merchants of the city, were attractively embellished by porticos of late Gothic and Renaissance style. In 1455 the Casa del Mercante Giovan Boniforte from Concorezzo was built , individually decorated with terracotta of late Gothic and Venetian style , particularly recognizable in the lace of the windows. The House of Boniforte, dominated by the fourteenth-century Torre del Salaro , confirms the coexistence of different architectures.
To characterize the square as Renaissance, was Luca Fancelli , the Florentine architect who worked in the construction of the Basilica of Sant'Andrea on a project by his teacher Leon Battista Alberti . Fancelli intervened on the Palazzo del Podestà, rebuilt the arcades in front of the Palazzo della Ragione and designed the Clock Tower for which he entrusted the construction of the astronomical clock to Bartolomeo Manfredi , an expert in astrology. The earthquake of 29 May 2012 has created many problems for the monuments of the square, in particular the Palazzo della Ragione and, above the merchant's house, the Torre del Salaro, crossed by a long vertical crack on the side of the building, existing but accentuatasi with the earthquake.

Piazza dei Signori is the most important square of Treviso , located in the heart of the city and its cultural, historical and social center.
The square, whose current name is due to the presence of the palaces of the ancient Lordship of Treviso , was called Maggiore time, the Chains or the Berlina (here the punishment of the public humiliation called sedan was practiced). Other indications of the square, starting from the 16th century, were: Piazza Grande, Piazza del Popolo, Piazza San Marco del Carubio and, later, Piazza dei Nobili.
On Piazza dei Signori some important architectures look out:
To the north is the Palazzo del Podestà, with the Torre Civica, it was the seat of the Signoria: it dates back to the XIII century;
To the east, the Palazzo dei Trecento, the former seat of the Maggior Consiglio, badly damaged during the bombing of Treviso on 7 April 1944, regained its original appearance thanks to a careful restoration;
To the west the Palazzo Pretorio, with a 17th century façade;
to the south, between via XX Settembre and via Indipendenza, the first seat of the Municipal Library and Pinacoteca , built in 1847 on the design of the architect Francesco Bomben on the Minor Council building area.
Not far from Palazzo del Podestà, at the beginning of via Calmaggiore , was once the fountain of tits . Removed after the fall of the Venetian Republic, it was found by Abbot Bailo and is currently in the loggia of the Palazzo dei Trecento. In the square you can also see numerous lions with the open Gospel, a sign of the domination of the Serenissima .

Piazza delle Erbe (Market's square) is a square in Verona, northern Italy. It was once the town's forum during the time of the Roman Empire. The northern side of the square is occupied by the ancient town hall, the Torre dei Lamberti, the Casa dei Giudici (Judges' Hall) and the frescoed Mazzanti Houses. The western side, the shortest one, features the Baroque Palazzo Maffei, decorated by statues of Greek gods. It is faced by a white marble column, on which is St. Mark's Lion, symbol of the Republic of Venice.
The north-western side occupies the site of the ancient Roman Capitol Hill, which looked towards the forum. Numerous of its buildings facing the square have maintained façade frescoes. On the southern side is the crenllated Casa dei Mercanti (House of the Merchants, also known as Domus Mercatorum), now the seat of the Banca Popolare di Verona. Other buildings, the tall houses of the Ghetto, are reminiscent of medieval tower-houses.
The square's most ancient monument is the fountain (built in 1368 by Cansignorio della Scala), surmounted by a statue called Madonna Verona, which is however a Roman sculpture dating to 380 AD. Also historical is the capitello, dating to the 13th century, during which it was used for several ceremonies, including the oath of investment of the city's medieval podestà and pretors. Towards Via Cappello is another column, with a 14th-century aedicula with reliefs of the Virgin and the Saints Zeno, Peter and Christopher.
