Camille Abbott
Since 1984 Camille Abbott has built her real estate business giving back to the community in which she lives as well as to the clients she serves. Many are repeat customers because they know they can count on Camille for the real estate knowledge needed to help them achieve their real estate goals whether they are a buyer or seller. A great number of those people are referrals from clients who know and trust her. They entrust a dear friend or family member or co-worker to her knowing that she will do what it takes to achieve their real estate goals. Camille takes those referrals very seriously and prides herself on meeting the clients' expectations and more. Whether dealing with CEOs of companies, powerful attorneys, entertainers, or friends and family, luxury real estate or investment property, Camille knows that a real estate transaction is emotional and stressful. She relieves that stress and takes the steps to make the purchase or sale happen. Camille is the party in the transaction who helps her client make sound, educated, decisions based on reliable information and experience, and that keeps her clients not only coming back but sending others. In short, she is a problem solver and a skilled listener. She takes great pride in knowing that she has served her client well. To Camille, being a Realtor is more than just a sign in the yard and having access to the MLS. It is being a trusted advisor. Fueled by tremendous support from her family and friends, she left a career in theatre arts education at the secondary school level and built a successful real estate business working for the best firms in the city. She experienced Austin when it was a university town and state capital, and now she is proud to call the Live Music Capital of the World her home. Over the years, she has served The Paramount Theatre, Rodeo Austin, ZACH Theatre, Central Texas Girls Scouts as committee chair, board member, and volunteer. She is a graduate of Leadership Austin. It is her hope to leave a legacy for all Austinites. Camille is an advocate for animals who cannot speak for themselves through Austin Pets Alive and the ASPCA. She currently serves on the board of the American Cutting Horse Association. Camille is a respected Realtor in the city of Austin who is known for her enthusiasm, compassion, real estate knowledge and her positive energy. The belief that education is power has kept Camille continuing her education and has earned her numerous prestigious professional designations. Though thinking she would always make her way to the Broadway stage and maybe even a Tony award, she now proudly says, “I am a Realtor.” She is definitely not the same old song and dance.

Scott Bradlee's Postmodern Jukebox 2016 Tour
Genre-busting Scott Bradlee’s Postmodern Jukebox announced a run of North American tour dates. Tickets go on sale Friday, April 22 at 10am local. Visit for more info.
Postmodern Jukebox, an ongoing musical project spearheaded by pianist and arranger Scott Bradlee, takes contemporary pop and rock tunes and fashions new arrangements for them that cast them in an unpredictable variety of musical styles from the past.
The tour follows PMJ’s current 75-date almost completely sold-out international run, which wraps this June. In 2015, the group's sold-out tours of Australia and the United States prompted the Buffalo News to proclaim, “Postmodern Jukebox is literally a postmodern success, extending its reach from the virtual to the real world, touring and performing around the globe for an ever-growing fan base.”
Created by Bradlee, the rotating collective of Postmodern Jukebox has spent the past few years amassing more than 450 million YouTube views and 1.9 million subscribers, performed on “Good Morning America,” topped iTunes and Billboard charts and played hundreds of shows to packed-house crowds around the world. As NPR put it, they’ve done this by “taking current Top 40 hits and re-imagining them as coming from older eras of popular music.” In one such remake, Bradlee and Postmodern Jukebox turned Miley Cyrus’ “We Can’t Stop” into a doo-wop ditty that’s garnered over 15.4 million views. Last year, they envisioned Radiohead’s alt-rock hit “Creep” as a torch-like ballad that’s racked up over 16.9 million views and was named one of the “9 Best Viral Cover Videos of 2015” by People magazine. Multi-Grammy winning artist Lorde praised Postmodern Jukebox’s vintage take on her hit single, “Royals,” which has been viewed over 15.3 million times, as her “favorite.” They recently performed a ‘30s jazz remake of Elle King’s “Ex’s & Oh’s” for MTV UK.
Bradlee, the mastermind behind the group, has turned Postmodern Jukebox into a juggernaut by building an incredible grassroots movement around the act. He continues to pick the songs, create the arrangements and shows, and puts together the performers - which includes some notable names alongside phenomenal undiscovered talent. The group releases a new video every week, each one shot in the casual environment of Bradlee’s living room where he can often be seen playing piano in the background.

Toby Kamps | May 2011
Curator Toby Kamps gave an illustrated talk, All Together Now, at the Ulrich Museum of Art on May 19, 2011.
Kamps earns critical praise for his engaging exhibitions and insightful scholarship. In addition to analyzing such canonical contemporary artists as Bruce Nauman and Ellsworth Kelly, Kamps pursues compelling thematic projects, most recently examining the role of folklore in contemporary art. In his Ulrich talk, he will discuss the historic importance of artists' collaboratives and the breadth of cooperative production in today's art world. His presentation set Wichita's Fisch Haus artist collaborative in context, as their anniversary exhibition appeared at the Ulrich from April 16-August 7, 2011. Kamps' distinguished career has included posts at the Walker Art Center, Minneapolis; Museum of Contemporary Art, San Diego; and Contemporary Arts Museum, Houston. He is now curator of modern and contemporary art for The Menil Collection in Houston.
This event was the final presentation in Buzz-Worthy Art Talks, a new lecture series featuring prominent voices in today's visual culture. Buzz-Worthy Art Talks, have been generously supported by Don and Lora Barry.

Kiss (band)
Kiss (more often styled as KISS) is an American hard rock band formed in New York City in January 1973. Well known for its members' face paint and flamboyant stage outfits, the group rose to prominence in the mid to late 1970s with their elaborate live performances, which featured fire breathing, blood spitting, smoking guitars, shooting rockets, levitating drum kits and pyrotechnics. Counting the 1978 solo albums, Kiss has been awarded 28 gold albums to date, the most of any American rock band. The band has sold more than 40 million albums in the United States, of which 24 million have been certified by the RIAA and their worldwide sales exceeds 100 million records, making them one of the world's best-selling bands of all time. The original 1973--80 lineup consisted of Paul Stanley (vocals and rhythm guitar), Gene Simmons (vocals and bass guitar), Ace Frehley (lead guitar and vocals) and Peter Criss (drums and vocals).
With their makeup and costumes, they took on the personas of comic book-style characters: Starchild (Stanley), The Demon (Simmons), Spaceman or Space Ace (Frehley) and Catman (Criss). Stanley became the Starchild because of his tendency to be referred to as the starry-eyed lover and hopeless romantic. The Demon makeup reflected Simmons' cynicism and dark sense of humor, as well as his affection for comic books. Frehley's Spaceman makeup was a reflection of his fondness for science fiction and his supposedly being from another planet. Criss' Catman makeup was in accordance with the belief that he had nine lives because of his rough childhood in Brooklyn. Due to creative differences, both Criss and Frehley were out of the group by 1982. The band's commercial fortunes had waned considerably by that point.

SUMMARY
=======
Austin is the capital of the U.S. state of Texas and the seat of Travis County, with portions extending into Hays and Williamson counties. It is the 11th-most populous city in the United States and the 4th-most populous city in Texas. It is also the fastest growing large city in the United States, the second most populous state capital after Phoenix, Arizona, and the southernmost state capital in the contiguous United States. As of the U.S. Census Bureau's August 1, 2018 estimate, Austin had a population of 967,629 up from 790,491 at the 2010 census. The city is the cultural and economic center of the Austin–Round Rock metropolitan statistical area, which had an estimated population of 2,056,405 as of July 1, 2016. Located in Central Texas within the greater Texas Hill Country, it is home to numerous lakes, rivers, and waterways, including Lady Bird Lake and Lake Travis on the Colorado River, Barton Springs, McKinney Falls, and Lake Walter E. Long.
In the 1830s, pioneers began to settle the area in central Austin along the Colorado River. In 1839, the site was chosen to replace Houston as the capital of the Republic of Texas and was incorporated under the name Waterloo. Shortly afterward, the name was changed to Austin in honor of Stephen F. Austin, the Father of Texas and the republic's first secretary of state. The city grew throughout the 19th century and became a center for government and education with the construction of the Texas State Capitol and the University of Texas at Austin. After a severe lull in economic growth from the Great Depression, Austin resumed its steady development, and by the 1990s it emerged as a center for technology and business. A number of Fortune 500 companies have headquarters or regional offices in Austin including, 3M, Amazon.com, Apple Inc., Cisco, eBay, General Motors, Google, IBM, Intel, Oracle Corporation, Paypal, Texas Instruments, and Whole Foods Market. Dell's worldwide headquarters is located in nearby Round Rock, a suburb of Austin.
Residents of Austin are known as Austinites. They include a diverse mix of government employees, college students, musicians, high-tech workers, blue-collar workers, and a vibrant LGBT community. The city's official slogan promotes Austin as The Live Music Capital of the World, a reference to the city's many musicians and live music venues, as well as the long-running PBS TV concert series Austin City Limits. The city also adopted Silicon Hills as a nickname in the 1990s due to a rapid influx of technology and development companies. In recent years, some Austinites have adopted the unofficial slogan Keep Austin Weird, which refers to the desire to protect small, unique, and local businesses from being overrun by large corporations. Words at War: Assignment USA / The Weeping Wood / Science at War
The Detroit Race Riot broke out in Detroit, Michigan in June 20, 1943, and lasted for three days before Federal troops restored order. The rioting between blacks and whites began on Belle Isle on June 20, 1943 and continued until the 22nd of June, killing 34, wounding 433, and destroying property valued at $2 million.
In the summer of 1943, in the midst of World War II, tensions between blacks and whites in Detroit were escalating. Detroit's population had grown by 350,000 people since the war began. The booming defense industries brought in large numbers of people with high wages and very little available housing. 50,000 blacks had recently arrived along with 300,000 whites, mostly from rural Appalachia and Southern States.[2]
Recruiters convinced blacks as well as whites in the South to come up North by promising them higher wages in the new war factories. Believing that they had found a promised land, blacks began to move up North in larger numbers. However, upon arriving in Detroit, blacks found that the northern bigotry was just as bad as that they left behind in the deep South. They were excluded from all public housing except Brewster Housing Projects, forced to live in homes without indoor plumbing, and paid rents two to three times higher than families in white districts. They also faced discrimination from the public and unfair treatment by the Detroit Police Department.[3] In addition, Southern whites brought their traditional bigotry with them as both races head up North, adding serious racial tensions to the area. Job-seekers arrived in such large numbers in Detroit that it was impossible to house them all.
Before the attack on Pearl Harbor, the U.S. government was concerned about providing housing for the workers who were beginning to pour into the area. On June 4, 1941, the Detroit Housing Commission approved two sites for defense housing projects--one for whites, one for blacks. The site originally selected by the commission for black workers was in a predominantly black area, but the U.S. government chose a site at Nevada and Fenelon streets, an all-white neighborhood.
To complete this, a project named Sojourner Truth was launched in the memory of a black Civil War woman and poet. Despite this, the white neighborhoods opposed having blacks moving next to their homes, meaning no tenants were to be built. On January, 20, 1942, Washington DC informed the Housing Commission that the Sojourner Truth project would be for whites and another would be selected for blacks. But when a suitable site for blacks could not be found, Washington housing authorities agreed to allow blacks into the finished homes. This was set on February 28, 1942.[4] In February 27, 1942, 120 whites went on protest vowing they would keep any black homeowners out of their sight in response to the project. By the end of the day, it had grown to more than 1,200, most of them were armed. Things went so badly that two blacks in a car attempted to run over the protesters picket line which led to a clash between white and black groups. Despite the mounting opposition from whites, black families moved into the project at the end of April. To prevent a riot, Detroit Mayor Edward Jeffries ordered the Detroit Police Department and state troops to keep the peace during that move. Over 1,100 city and state police officers and 1,600 Michigan National Guard troops were mobilized and sent to the area around Nevada and Fenelon street to guard six African-American families who moved into the Sojourner Truth Homes. Thanks to the presence of the guard, there were no further racial problems for the blacks who moved into this federal housing project. Eventually, 168 black families moved into these homes.[5] Despite no casualties in the project, the fear was about to explode a year later.[6]
In early June 1943, three weeks before the riot, Packard Motor Car Company promoted three blacks to work next to whites in the assembly lines. This promotion caused 25,000 whites to walk off the job, effectively slowing down the critical war production. It was clear that whites didn't mind that blacks worked in the same plant but refused to work side-by-side with them. During the protest, a voice with a Southern accent shouted in the loudspeaker, I'd rather see Hitler and Hirohito win than work next to a nigger.
