Cedar Rapids /ˈsiːdər ˈræpɨdz/ is the second largest city in Iowa and is the county seat of Linn County. The city lies on both banks of the Cedar River, 20 miles (32 km) north of Iowa City and 100 miles (160 km) east of Des Moines, the state's capital and largest city. Until massive flooding in 2008, the city's government was headquartered in the Veterans Memorial Building, near the Linn County Courthouse and jail on Mays Island in the Cedar River; Cedar Rapids was one of a few cities in the world, along with Paris, France, with governmental offices on a municipal island.
A flourishing center for arts and culture in Eastern Iowa, the city is home to the Cedar Rapids Museum of Art, the National Czech & Slovak Museum & Library, the Paramount Theatre, Theatre Cedar Rapids, the African-American Historical Museum and Cultural Center of Iowa, and the Iowa Cultural Corridor Alliance. Cedar Rapids is an economic hub of the state, located in the core of the Interstate 380 Cedar Rapids/Iowa City Technology Corridor of Linn, Benton, Jones, Johnson, and Washington counties. As of the 2010 United States Census, the city population was 126,326.

CEDAR RAPIDS, IA(CBS2/FOX28)-- The Cedar Rapids School District is working around the clock to make sure everything is in place for the first day of school.Cleveland Elementary, as well as Washington and Jefferson High Schools sustained significant damage when June storms brought heavy rain and strong winds.The first day is August 26th, but there are a few final pieces that need to be touched up.With the damage we had over at Cleveland and then a short two weeks later, the damage we had at Jefferson and Washington, it sure put a lot of stress on staff, Cedar Rapids Building and Grounds Manager Rob Kleinsmith said.The winds and water tore through school buildings and left a mess for the district to clean up and added to the construction work they already had on their summer list.But for 8th grader Ryan Hallman, he just is glad to see progress, If it didn't get fixed then people wouldn't be able to go to school, Ryan said.The district said they are not worried about that, We're on track for the amount of damage that we had, Kleinsmith said.Crews started cleaning up the mess from day one but with one week left, they are getting close to being done.We're making progress, Kleinsmith said.If you were to see the before and after pictures, you could see how much work and time the district has put into making sure everything is safe for students to return next week.There are just some finishing touc

Oakland's Grand Lake Theater Organ Pre-show Performance
The Wurlitzer organ at Oakland California's Grand Lake Theater is played on Friday and Saturday nights in the main theater before the evening showtimes.
This is a grand old theater built in 1926. The original theater had a balcony, and in its present state, the balcony section is closed off to create a second screen up on the second floor.

At the pre-show performance on Friday, November 22, 2013, before the 7:00 p.m. show, for the opening night of Catching Fire, I was late to catch the beginning, but I was able to record most of the pre-show organ performance. I started recording in the middle of a song and recorded until the end, and included the lowering of the organ into the orchestra pit.
I had the permission of management to record this organ performance.

Rockwell Collins Earth Day 2011 in Cedar Rapids, Iowa
Interviews were conducted with employees and local environmental organizations at the Rockwell Collins Earth Day Fair, held at our LEED-certified building on April 21, 2011. Organizations represented included: Restore, Iowa Bike Coalition, City Carton, Project AWARE, and many more. Booths were arranged to educate employees on how they can reduce their environmental impact. The event was held in conjunction with the announcement of the 2011Rockwell Collins Green Community grant winners.
