The Best French Desserts and Bakeries to Try in Paris | French Desserts
Every dessert lover should once in their lifetime travel to Paris.
Would you like to buy me a coffee?
And that’s precisely what I did. Here is my list of the best French desserts and bakeries you should definitely visit on your trip to Paris.
Article with the map:
Choux à la crème at Popelini (2.4€) - Popelini opened in 2011, and it took its name after the Popelini the Italian pastry chef who worked for the queen Catherine de Medicis and invented the choux pastry. Rich with flavor and made with handcrafted ingredients. It changed my life forever!
Chocolate Brioche at Aux Merveilleux de Fred (3.6€) - When you enter the Aux Merveilleux de Fred you instantly know that you are at the right place. The smell is just fantastic. These giant brioches are so fluffy and delicious that I wish they start making pillows like this soon.
Croissant & Pain au chocolat at La Maison d’Isabelle (1€ and 1.2€) - La Maison d’Isabelle is the winner of Best Croissant in Paris 2018, and there is a reason for that. The best croissant and pain au chocolate I ever had! Just listen to that crunch!
Mille-feuille at Carl Marletti (7€) - Carl Marletti was a long walk from my Airbnb but well worth it. You tell just from peeking through the window that these people take their desserts seriously. The specialty is the Vanilla Mille-feuille (‘thousand-leaf’), and it was spectacular.
Chocolate-Pistachio Escargot at Du Pain et Des Idées (3.6€) - is a spiral pastry often eaten for breakfast in France. Its name translates as the snail. It is a member of the pâtisserie viennoiserie family of baked foods. The bakery is run by a passionate baker, Christophe Vasseur who went from fashion industry sales executive to THE Baker. The bakery is famous not only for its excellent bread and pastries but for its exquisite interior from 1889 as well.
Paris-Brest at Jacques genin (12€) - This was one of the most expensive desserts I tried in Paris, but it was also one of the best Paris-Brest’s I ever tried. There are no desserts on display. You can order from the menu, and they will be freshly-prepared for you on order. Excellent.
Eclairs at L’Eclair de Genie (5.9€) - You can’t visit Paris and not try Eclairs. One of the best places in Paris to get your eclairs is L’Eclair de Genie or ‘Genius eclair’. They are opened since 2012 and have now 4 shops around central Paris.
Macarons at Ladurée (2.1€) - And last but not least you need to try some macarons. One of the best places to try macaron Is Ladurée. Ladurée is the world’s best-known premier seller of macarons. They have a 157-year history and sell over 15000 macarons every day.

French Cuisine: Paris Food Guide Travel Food Video Transcript:
So another day in Paris calls for another little Parisian treat. Today we have a box full of Macaron. And if you spend any time on Instagram you've probably noticed that when your friends travel to France they are posting pictures of these sweet little treats because they just look so cute really.
So we got ourselves a box from a little pâtisserie and we're going to be sampling them. And it looks like we've got four different flavors of this one. Let's zoom in. And I can't wait to dig in.
So what exactly are in these bad boy macaroon? Okay, so I'm not much of a baker but I did read up on these. And they are made with egg whites, icing sugar, regular sugar and then some almond powder. And they also use a little bit of food coloring to give them different colours. So as you can see here we've got four different variations with four different flavors.
So today is our first day exploring Paris and we thought we'd sample a bit of the local cuisine. We came across a little stand that was selling Crêpes so I ordered one with jambon fromage. So this one is ham and cheese. It looks delicious. We've been walking around for hours and I'm starving so I'm so excited to just bite into this.
So today we are having a nice little picnic in the outskirts of Paris. We just felt like we needed to get out of the city for a bit. So we went to a grocery store we picked up a few snacks and now we're in the bois de boulogne and we're going to be having a nice little picnic outside and it is a great day for it. So I'm excited to dig in to all of this food.
We've got two bottles of little wine. They're both really cheap. We've got Couscous. We've got humus. Baguette. Croissant. Ah! Of course. Croissant. Chocolate. Enough Macarons to last us for a week. Plenty of Swiss cheese. Prosciutto. And smoked trout.
Well good morning from Paris. It is about eleven in the morning which means it is time for either a second breakfast or a first lunch. So we've stopped off at a little Patisserie and we picked up a little treat that we're going to be sampling. So here is my little bag. First let me show you, they gave us cute cutlery, wrapped in pink string. Aw.
And today we're going to have be having something called Croque-monsieur.
Well, well it is time for another French dessert. So today we are introducing you to the Eclair. And I have two Éclairs in here that I just picked up from the little bakery shop. And it is time for the unveiling.
Alright, so I went for the classic chocolate-topped Éclair. So basically it is just a long doughy pastry and the inside is supposedly filled with cream. And it has chocolate icing on top but let's bite in to be sure.

Éclair Taste Test in Paris
Out of the many tempting treats we've spotted while visiting French Bakeries (Patisseries) is this long oblong shaped donut covered in icing and filled with cream inside. If you haven't guessed it already we're talking about Éclairs. The classic one is chocolate; however, they come in all kinds of different flavors including coffee, pistachio, fruit and/or rum. For this particular taste test we grabbed a chocolate and coffee flavored eclairs.

Upon doing research it was fascinating for us to realize that the French word éclair means 'flash of lightning.' Thus, eating it slowly is definitely out of the question ;) Come find out what makes these tasty treats such a staple item in French bakeries.
Éclair Taste Test in Paris Travel Video Transcript:
Well, well it is time for another French dessert. So today we are introducing you to the Eclair. And I have two Éclairs in here that I just picked up from the little bakery shop. And it is time for the unveiling.
Alright, so I went for the classic chocolate-topped Éclair. So basically it is just a long doughy pastry and the inside is supposedly filled with cream. And it has chocolate icing on top but let's bite in to be sure.
Quality control over here.
How is that?
Actually, mine is not cream. It has like a creamy chocolate pudding in the middle and chocolate icing on top. That is almost liked a filled churro. And the taste?
Yeah, it is delicious. It is amazing. I mean the pastry, it is almost like puffed pastry, it is very light and it is hollow inside so then they just fill it. Is it overly sweet? It is not overly sweet. It is more creamy than anything. It is like pudding.
That is really good.
Surprisingly good.
Okay, so you've got a slightly different one. Yeah, mine is the coffee flavored one. You can also get all kinds of different flavors. There are different fruit flavours, there is rum toppings, there is all kinds of toppings. So if you enjoy the classic chocolate one definitely consider trying the other ones as well.
Yeah, I think we saw strawberry and pistachio. Yeah, they have pistachio too. Yep.
Alright, let's try this coffee one.
Again, it is the inside - the cream, the pudding - and this one is of course coffee flavored cream inside. A really generous amount. It is almost like there is more pudding than pastry. Which is delicious.
That is surprising. I was expecting the interior to have like a white whipped cream. Like a white pudding. Nope.
It has got the flavor to match the icing. Yeah.
Okay, so once again the price point for the Eclair.
So to pick up an eclair you're looking at 2 to 2.50 Euro and again it is at a French bakery or Patisserie. And what I would recommend having it with is with a coffee or even have it as a dessert. It is delicious and highly recommended.
This is part of our Travel in France series. We're making a series of videos showcasing French culture, French arts, French foods, French religion, French cuisine and French people.
