Wisconsin’s Desert | Parks and Landmarks
Sean goes to the Spring Green Preserve to explore Wisconsin’s desert, complete with cacti! There’s a lot to see here, but deserts historically aren’t hospitable towards people. In the end, the sands of the Wisconsin River are a lot more fun!

Leigh Gallagher: The End of the Suburbs: Where the American Dream is Moving | Talks at Google
The End of the Suburbs: Where the American Dream is Moving. Leigh Gallagher in conversation with Jessi Hempel from Fortune.
For nearly 70 years, they were as American as apple pie: As the middle class ballooned, we flocked in masse to the suburbs, a place where open air and solitude offered a retreat from the dense, polluted cities we'd inhabited for centuries. But when the recent U.S. housing bubble burst, no part of our country felt the pain more than these bedroom communities, as foreclosures, displaced families and plunging house prices tainted this version of the American Dream. Conventional wisdom says this is all temporary—that once the economy rights itself and home prices return to pre-recession levels, we'll go back to the lives we led before. A new book by Leigh Gallagher proves otherwise.
In The End of the Suburbs: Where the American Dream is Moving, Gallagher explains how the recession was simply a catalyst for a much larger trend. The suburbs may have represented the dominant pattern of housing for more than half a century, but a combination of powerful social, economic, and demographic forces is converging to render them unnecessary, and even undesirable, for an ever-increasing number of Americans.
Not all suburbs are going to vanish, of course, but the trends are undeniable. In this fascinating and timely portrait of our changing landscape, Gallagher reveals irrefutable reversals taking place—and demonstrates why the post-cul-de-sac future is not a bleak one but a better one. The end of the suburbs, as Gallagher foretells it, will mean better, stronger, happier and healthier communities for everyone.
Leigh Gallagher is an assistant managing editor at Fortune, where she edits feature stories and oversees several Fortune franchises. Earlier in her career she was a senior editor at SmartMoney magazine and a writer for Forbes. This is her first book.

LYRICS
No ones gonna love you like I do.
No ones gonna care like I do.
And I can feel it in the way that you breathe.
I know you dream of her while you sleep next to me.
I can't stop drinking about you.
I gotta numb the pain.
I can't stop drinking about you.
Without you I ain't the same.
So pour a shot in my glass and I'll forget forever!
So pour a shot in my glass cause it makes everything better!
Darlin tell me what more can I do?
Don't you know that I was meant for you?
You say I feel like heaven on earth,
But You'd never know what heaven was if it wasn't for... her.
I can't stop drinking about you.
I gotta numb the pain.
I can't stop drinking about you.
Without you I ain't the same.
So pour a shot in my glass and I'll forget forever!
So pour a shot in my glass cause it makes everything better!
I can't stop drinking about you.
I can't stop drinking about you.
No ones gonna love you like I do.
I can't stop drinking about you.
I can't stop drinking about you.
So pour a shot in my glass and I'll forget forever!
So pour a shot in my glass cause it makes everything better!
No ones gonna love you like I do.
Around the Corner with John McGivern | Program | East Troy (#413)
[Latest Airdate: September 13, 2018]
[Original Airdate: April 16, 2015]
This is a bucket list kind of community. You have no idea how many things you’re able to check off in East troy.
Jump out of an airplane (with a parachute, of course). Fly up the ski slopes of Alpine Valley faster than you can ski down. Experience one of the largest amphitheaters in the country. Take a train ride on a 100+ year-old electric railroad. Eat apple pie out of a paper bag. (Trust us, it’s amazing!) Drip the best BBQ sauce ever down your chin and onto your shirt and don’t care because it’s soooo good. Have a drink or meal in the oldest continuously operating tavern in Wisconsin. Discover the secrets behind organic farming and pharmaceuticals. Stroll around a circular town square, or walk around a town square with circular edges – John used both descriptions of East Troy’s Town Square.
Told you so. That’s a respectable bucket list. But don’t worry. John’s list is even longer, so we’ll see you next season!
