Car Camera - Lincoln, NE - Lied Center to Centennial Mall South . 2014 ( ネブラスカ州リンカーン )
Finishing up downtown. Lots of things to see, not much to say :p . On this little adventure we encounter the Nebraska State Capitol a couple of times. We also see many buildings under construction (no, they are not being torn down ^_~ )...
Centennial Mall North is currently closed, to my surprise (still under renovation at P Street...), so we have to take a detour to get to Centennial Mall South via R and 16th Streets. Ah well :p . Also, Centennial Mall south of M St. is under renovation and probably will be for the next couple of years, so here's looking forward to what it will look like once it's done!
Hope you enjoy this ride and thanks for watching :) !

John Joseph Black Jack Pershing is among America's most famous generals. Long before he took command as General of the Armies during World War I, he was Professor of Military Science and Tactics at the University of Nebraska. When Pershing arrived at UNL in 1891, the cadet training program was in disarray but within a year he turned it into the nation's best drill team.

SUMMARY
=======
The University of Nebraska–Lincoln, often referred to as Nebraska, UNL or NU, is a public research university in the city of Lincoln, in the state of Nebraska in the Midwestern United States. It is the state's oldest university, and the largest in the University of Nebraska system.
The state legislature chartered the university in 1869 as a land-grant university under the 1862 Morrill Act, two years after Nebraska's statehood into the United States. Around the turn of the 20th century, the university began to expand significantly, hiring professors from eastern schools to teach in the newly organized professional colleges while also producing groundbreaking research in agricultural sciences. The Nebraska method of ecological study developed here during this time pioneered grassland ecology and laid the foundation for research in theoretical ecology for the rest of the 20th century. The university is organized into eight colleges on two campuses in Lincoln with over 100 classroom buildings and research facilities. Its athletic program, called the Cornhuskers, is a member of the Big Ten Conference. The Nebraska football team has won 46 conference championships, and since 1970, five national championships. The women's volleyball team has won five national championships along with eight other appearances in the Final Four. The Husker football team plays its home games at Memorial Stadium, selling out every game since 1962. The stadium's capacity is about 92,000 people, larger than the population of Nebraska's third-largest city.
Car Camera - Lincoln, NE - UNL City Campus to College View . 2013 ( ネブラスカ州リンカーン )
On today's trip, we go from the University of Nebraska at Lincoln's City Campus here in Lincoln, Nebraska, U.S.A., to the College View area by Union College.
We begin at a combobulation of roads on UNL's city campus and eventually head down 16th Street. On UNL's Master Plan, soon to be approved, this stretch of road will become come a two way street (I believe). Best look at what it looks like now while you get the chance :p ! Also, along this stretch, we pass by the Neihardt Complex... a honors student residential hall that is supposedly haunted. It was once one of Lincoln's first hospitals 100-or-so years back...
We eventually get into downtown Lincoln where we pass by the State Capitol, Pershing Auditorium (soon to be retired, maybe) and the Federal Building. Continuing south, we eventually run into Bryan West Medical Center before turning onto South St.
Then off of South Street we turn onto Sheridan Boulevard. Old money on this street. This was where the mansions resided back in the old days and even today. A trolley line once ran all the way from downtown to & through the center of Sheridan Blvd. and down to College View. Nebraska Highway 2 this once was. A nice street to drive on and wonder about all of the big houses ~_~ .....
Eventually we wind our way to the Union College/College View Area. We mainly bypass the college and the former small town itself. At the end of our journey, we nearly run into the base of the Holmes late dam!
Hope you enjoy the ride and thanks for watching!

John J. Pershing
John Joseph Black Jack Pershing (September 13, 1860 – July 15, 1948), was a general officer in the United States Army who led the American Expeditionary Forces in World War I. Pershing is the only person to be promoted in his own lifetime to General of the Armies, the highest authorized rank in the United States Army, signifying service directly under the president. (A retroactive Congressional edict passed in 1976 promoted George Washington to the same rank but with higher seniority.) Pershing holds the first United States officer service number (O-1). He was regarded as a mentor by the generation of American generals who led the United States Army in Europe during World War II, including George C. Marshall, Dwight D. Eisenhower, Omar N. Bradley, and George S. Patton. A somewhat controversial figure, his tactics have been harshly criticized both by commanders at the time and by modern historians. His reliance on costly frontal assaults, long after other allied armies had abandoned such tactics, has been blamed for causing unnecessarily high American casualties.

Car Camera - Lincoln, NE - Youngs E. to Lavenders Addn. via the W. Haymarket . 2014 ( ネブラスカ州リンカーン )
Today we take a long-time-coming tour of the West Haymarket District (including Pinnacle Bank Arena) along with a drive trough the south-side of downtown Lincoln, Nebraska U.S.A. My how this area has developed... especially when compared to a car camera video made about a year ago (poor quality):
(begin this linked video at 6:02)
...with more development on the way, one can only wait while being excited to see what comes next!
Around the S. 21st & N St. area, many of the buildings that once were here have been razed. This area is on the footprint of Antelope Valley and is slated for development, too... one being Exchange at Antelope Valley. There will soon also be a protected bikeway along N St. from the Antelope Valley bridge to the West Haymarket.
Enough said for all there is to see... please enjoy ^_^ !

Forty-Seven Days: How Pershing's Warriors Came of Age...
Forty-Seven Days: How Pershing's Warriors Came of Age to Defeat the German Army in World War I
The Battle of the Meuse-Argonne is the deadliest clash in American history: more than a million untested American soldiers went up against a better-trained and experienced German army, resulting in more than 26,000 deaths and leaving nearly 100,000 wounded. Yet in forty-seven days of intense combat, these Americans forced the Germans to surrender, bringing the First World War to an end. Historian Mitchell Yockelson tells how General John J. “Black Jack” Pershing’s exemplary leadership led to the unlikeliest of victories. A book signing follows the program.
Charles G. Dawes
Charles Gates Dawes was an American banker, politician, and military general who was the 30th Vice President of the United States. For his work on the Dawes Plan for World War I reparations he was a cowinner of the Nobel Peace Prize in 1925. Dawes served in the First World War, was the Comptroller of the Currency, the first director of the Bureau of the Budget, and, in later life, the Ambassador to the United Kingdom.
Dawes was married to Caro Blymyer on January 24, 1889, and they had four children: Rufus Fearing Dawes, Carolyn Dawes, Dana McCutcheon, and Virginia Dawes.
