Exploring the Secret Caves and Lagoons of Phang Nga Bay in Phuket, Thailand
This time we spent the day on a Kayaking Tour via the John Gray Sea Canoe Kayaking Tour. We went on the Hong by Starlight day trip. Had a great time exploring the different caves and lagoons only accessible at certain times of the day. We also participated in a mock Loy Krathong ceremony.

Amazing Ao Phang Nga - A Thailand Travel Video

We were staying in Phuket recently and looking for some adventure when we stumbled on this amazing place. We had heard of the James Bond Island — it's hard not to, they advertise it all over Phuket — but we didn't want to go with a big tour group. So, we rented a car, quickly learned how to drive on the left side of the road, and set off at six o'clock in the morning to the amazing Ao Phang Nga National Park, home to the archipelago that hosts the James Bond island and hundreds of others.
We didn't know what to expect after the hour long drive, but we brought along our cameras, a mavic pro and good attitudes and we hoped to make the most of it. We went straight for the national park visitor center after a quick shoot by a beautiful inland rock formation. Across the way there was a line of longtail boats waiting to be hired. We booked out one of the boats and a driver for an entire day — which cost only about $60.00, U.S. — and grabbed some local beers for the ride.
We never actually made it to the big tourist sites, because they were overcrowded and, honestly, we didn't have much interest. The entire area is scattered with similar rock formations, so, we anchored up to one without any other boats nearby and cut off our own little slice of paradise for a few hours.
One of the major highlights while cruising back to the Ao Phang Nga National Park visitor center was stopping by Koh Panyi, a small, stilted muslim community residing in the middle of the bay on a secluded island. Most tour boats stop here early in the day, so we really had the place to ourselves — among the 1,685 friendly residents that live there full-time. It was the perfect end to a day that had little expectations. When we go back, we won't be doing it any differently.
If you want to discuss our experience at this beautiful destination in more detail, feel free to reach out! We're happy to chat.

Ao Phang Nga National Park
The Ao Phang Nga National Park is both bizarre and beautiful. The unique topography of this 400 km. sq. park is what makes it so popular. It includes around 40 different islands, surrounded by the azure waters of the sea with limestone pillars reaching for the skies from the lapping waves. The mangrove-edged bay is spiked with limestone karst formations up to 300m in height. The hot months last from April to June, and the cool months are from November to February. The Phang Nga Bay is popular for all kinds of sports from snorkelling and scuba diving, and rock climbing. Khao Phing Kan has made this park famous. Ko Panyi is a remarkable village built on stilts.

Sailing Thailand - Koh Phi Phi and Maya Bay, Windlass Problems, Ao Phang Nga National Park, Ep. 10
We woke up at the anchorage in Racha Yai, just south of Phuket, and sailed to the Phi Phi Islands and past the famous and crowded Maya Bay. The winds picked up and we sailed north to Chicken Island off the coast of Krabi and had our first real problem with a broken windlass.
Upon fixing the anchor windlass we studied the tide tables and motored through Ao Nang National Park looking out for jellyfish and kayaking in a serene lagoon. Our last night we had a fantastic sunset and reflected on the experience sailing through Thailand and all the things we got a chance to see on our own that the freedom of sailing has brought us.
Next, our Thai visa runs out and we fly to Siem Reap to explore Cambodia.

Phang Nga Bay is a 400 km² bay in the Andaman Sea between the island of Phuket and the mainland of the Malay peninsula of southern Thailand. Since 1981 a big part of the bay is protected as the Ao Phang Nga National Park. It is situated in Phang Nga Province, at 08°17'N 098°36'E.
Limestone cliffs with caves, collapsed cave systems and archaeological sites are found about Phang Nga Bay. Some 10,000 years ago, when sea levels were lower, one could walk from Phuket and Krabi.
Phang Nga Bay Marine National Park was declared a protected Ramsar Site (no. 1185) of international ecological significance on 14 August, 2002. Phang Nga is a shallow bay with 42 islands, comprising shallow marine waters and intertidal forested wetlands, with at least 28 species of mangrove; seagrass beds and coral reefs are also present.
At least 88 bird species, including the globally threatened Malaysian Plover (Charadrius peronii) and Asian Dowitcher (Limnodromus semipalmatus), can be found within the site, as well as 82 fish species, 18 reptiles, three amphibians, and 17 mammal species. These include the Dugong (a vulnerable species), White-hand Gibbon (Hylobates lar), the endangered Serow (Capricornis sumatraensis), shown here, and the Black Finless Porpoise (Neophocaena phocaenoides).
A number of diverse cultures co-exist in local communities, which practice fishing, harvesting Nypa palm fronds for thatch, and catering to an international tourist presence drawn both by the natural beauties and by the archaeological sites, which have paintings more than a thousand years old.[1]
