Philippi Covered Bridge, West Virginia - 2016 HD
I had always wanted to ride through the covered bridge of Philippi, and I finally got to do it. It is the oldest and the longest covered bridge in West Virginia. It is a wonderful experience if you know the history of the bridge and its connections to the American Civil War. Locals insist that President Abraham Lincoln and the confederate President Jefferson Davis met here to discuss peace terms during Civil War, but historians don't think it is a fact. The bridge was built in 1852, so it is over 150 years old and is still in excellent condition.
In July 2016 authorities closed the bridge for renovations and said it would be closed through the month of August. I don't know if has been reopened as I shot this video in January 2015. Why did engineers create covered bridges? Well, if you don't put a roof over the wooden bridge, the bridge would be gone in a few decades due to weather changes. Follow Me on:

Philippi is a beautiful town in Barbour County, WV surrounded by beautiful mountains with a covered bridge which was the site of the first land battle of the civil war. Beautiful, historical houses are all around. The Barbour County Courthouse at Philippi is the home of one of the famous Viquesney doughboys (A movie taken in WV called, Doughboy will be coming out in the summer of 2012 nationwide about a teenager who learns the sacrifices of our veterans). The family of the creator of the doughboy are from France and became citizens of Barbour County, WV (Junior & Belington areas). Philippi has a lot more historical events.
