About Escape Rooms
An escape room is a physical adventure game in which players are locked in a room and have to use elements of the room to solve a series of puzzles and escape within a set time limit. The games are physical versions of escape the room video games. Games are set in a variety of fictional locations, such as prison cells, dungeons and space stations, and are popular as team building exercises.
The earliest room was created in 2006, and escape rooms became popular in the United States, Japan, Taiwan, Canada and mainland China in the 2010s. Permanent escape rooms in fixed locations were first opened in Asia and followed later in North America, Europe, Australia, and South America. Notable organisers include AdventureRooms, ClueQuest, The Escape Hunt Experience, ClueJob, and Puzzle Break.
The earliest escape room, Origin, was created in Silicon Valley by a group of system programmers in 2006. The mysteries and challenges in the game were inspired by the works of Agatha Christie and became a popular tourist attraction.
Real Escape Game (REG) in Japan was developed by 35-year-old Takao Kato, of the Kyoto publishing company, SCRAP Co., in 2008. It is based in Kyoto, Japan and produces a free magazine by the same name. Beyond Japan, escape games appeared in Singapore from 2011. Escape games in Singapore expanded quickly with over 50 games by 2015.
In 2015, there were over 2,800 escape room venues worldwide. These are particularly lucrative for the operators, as the upfront investment can be as low as $7000 USD, while a party of 4-8 customers pay around $25-30 USD per person for one hour to solve a room puzzle, being able to generate annual revenue in the range of several hundred thousands.
A 2015 American Science Channel television game show Race to Escape is based on this theme.

Intel Announces $7 Billion Investment in Arizona
(9 Feb 2017) FOR CLEAN VERSION SEE STORY NUMBER: apus071676
President Donald Trump on Wednesday held up Intel's plan to invest more than $7 billion in an Arizona factory as a win for his economic agenda.
Trump was the second president to celebrate the computer chip maker's attempts to expand its domestic production at the same facility in Chandler, Arizona, outside Phoenix.
In 2012, Obama went to the factory's construction site and celebrated that the plant would produce some of the fastest and most powerful computer chips on Earth.
But by 2014, however, Intel had pulled back from finishing the factory.
The company said Wednesday that it now expects to open the plant known as Fab 42 within four years.
Like Obama, Trump declared it a win for workers.
Chandler Mayor Jay Tibshraeny doesn’t care which administration got the deal done but is just happy Intel will resume its plans.
“Any help we got or any nudge we got from the president, I will personally thank him,” Tibshraeny said Wednesday.
“We had the last president, President Obama was out at Fab 42 probably four or five years ago when we first started that project so the White House of both administrations saw that this is a really important worldwide project.”
Intel CEO Brian Krzanich said in an Oval Office visit with Trump that the factory will employ about 3,000 workers directly —and 10,000 workers in Arizona in support of the factory.
Intel has not been a universal fan of Trump's policies. It was among the tech companies that filed a legal brief that challenged the president's 90-day ban on travel to the United States from seven Muslim-majority countries.
The announcement also comes as Intel has shed jobs.

John McCain Memorial: Watch the full pre-funeral memorial in Arizona Thursday
While the nation and world continues to honor Arizona Senator John McCain, the Republican's long life of service will be celebrated throughout the week in a series of services and ceremonies taking place at his family home and in the Washington, D.C. area. His funeral will take place on Sunday at the Naval Academy's Cemetery grounds.
Following a somber ceremony at the Arizona State Capitol on Wednesday, family, friends and political leaders are remembering Senator John McCain at his Arizona memorial service on Thursday. McCain died at the age of 81 last weekend after a battle with glioblastoma, an aggressive form of brain cancer that was diagnosed last year.
Among those slated to speak at the Phoenix-area baptist church are former Vice President Joe Biden, who had a decades-long friendship with McCain, and whose son, Beau Biden, also died of the same cancer.
For further details about the funeral:
