A week in the Netherlands Vlog / Haarlem, Wedding, Portrait Shoots, Amsterdam
At the end of November and the beginning of December we went on a little getaway to the Netherlands. Mostly because I was booked as a photographer for the wedding of Bo & Ben in Maastricht. ( )
We thought why not spend a few more days here and
be surrounded by the Christmas lights of other cities. Before this trip I didn’t felt festive at all, even if I wanted to feel it so much.
The first days we spend in the loveliest tiny apartment in one of the highest buildings in Haarlem. It belongs to the kindest Andreea ( that kindly invited us to book a few nights in her apartment so we did! And I’m so happy we did. Not only because it was so cozy there, but also because this way we met with Andreea herself as well as her boyfriend Florian for a little portrait session. They were waiting for us in Bloomendal while we walked four hours through Zuid Kennemerland. The most beautiful national park with wild animals around. We were so lucky that the sun was shining on us that day after being covered in tiny raindrops most of the days.
On the next day early in the morning I was driving to Bo&Ben who got married somewhere in the countryside near Maastricht in a lovely barn where they grow and dry plants for bouquets and arrived in Amsterdam shortly before midnight. Here we spend some days with Florians sister and her boyfriend and I photographed Brookelnn and Mazarine in this lovely city.
I included some of the photos I took during this trip (analog + digital) more about everything will be on my blog soon. :)
I hope you will have a good start into the coming year whatever it might bring for you.
Love, Tina

Landscape Photography in The Netherlands - Tulips and Windmills, Zaanse Schans, Kinderdijk
The Netherlands is a beautiful country for landscape photography and famous for tulips and windmills. In this episode I'm visiting both Zaanse Schans, Kinderdijk, Groningen and some tulip fields for landscape photography. In this video I'll show the best places to find tulips and windmills in the Netherlands.
MORE ON TULIPS:
MORE ON FLYING DRONES IN KINDERDIJK:
- Kinderdijk is a 'Nature 2000' area - you're not allowed to disturb the nature.
- Many people fly drones in Kinderdijk, the locals are tired of this.

Landscape Photography in the Netherlands
In mid-August 2019 I was commissioned to go to the Netherlands to do some photography for a commercial client in the tourism industry. This is the results of those two days.
Originally, the idea for the shoot came about in 2018 but neither the client nor I had the chance to catch up with each other. So in June 2019 we started to plan out how I could get over to the Netherlands in the best possible weather for the time needed to capture the photos they required.
Zaanse Schans is an area north west of Amsterdam that can easily be reached by public transport in around 20 minutes or so from the central railway station. It's not that big of an area but you need to be aware that once it gets to around 8am in the morning then busloads of tourists start arriving on the scene. But then they all start disappearing again around 6PM.
August 2019 was pencilled in to capture the photos and it took two weeks of waiting for bad weather to clear from the Netherlands in order for the shoot to go ahead.
Remember that this isn't a photography tutorial or out to get typical photographer style images. This is client work for the tourism industry and as such the images need to be of the type that will attract tourists to the area.

Amsterdam Hostel Life and Photography | Amsterdam Vlog
This is the first Amsterdam vlog as I hang out at the hostel and head out for some photography.
Instagram: --- The Hostel App:
I left Leiden, Netherlands and made the move towards Amsterdam this morning. I've been looking to getting into the city and shooting some photography for a while now. It's been a long time since I spent time in Amsterdam, and since it poured rain the whole time I was here the first time, I didn't really shoot any pictures or explore that much.
So, I was pretty keen to get out and explore.
But, first, I needed to check into my hostel. I'm staying at St. Christopher's Inn in Amsterdam. St. Christopher's Inn is one of my favourite hostel chains. They have a great vibe that's open, leads people towards social life, and also gives them privacy where they want it.
When I'm not living the hostel life, I really kind of miss it. There's something special about life in the hostels. It's more than a place to stay - hostel's are community.
In the evening, I headed out for a bit of photography in Amsterdam. I started with a location scout, and found two locations I really wanted to shoot. But, in classic Brendan style, I got to my first spot way too early and found myself a little bit bored waiting for the light. Still it was actually really fun sitting and shooting some Amsterdam vlog footage on the canals. I also decided I want to live on a houseboat. That's my new goal.
Finally, the light started popping and it was pretty fantastic for photography. The light was a little flat, and I kind of got caught up with one composition, but I did get some photos of Amsterdam I really liked.
Eventually, I headed over to the I am Amsterdam I Amsterdam sign that everyone takes cheesy photos on, and got some images I'm happy with.
Afterwards, I wandered back to the hostel to call it a night.
I have to say, I do love Amsterdam. It's kind of the perfect mix of weird and chill. And, it's definitely photogenic.

It was so great to meet so many of you in Amsterdam for my first ever meet up and photo walk! I'm definitely inspired to do more of these in the future in various cities around the world.
As I mention in the video, it's always great to just meet other like-minded individuals with a passion for creativity and exploring an urban environment. It's also amazing how so many photographers can capture such varying shots of the same destination!
If you'd like me to arrange a photo walk in your home city, let me know in the comments and I'll see if I can make it happen some day!

AMSTERDAM COFFEESHOPS - photo tour
a slideshow showing almost 90 of amsterdams coffeeshops.
these establishments have straddled the line of legality in Amsterdam/holland for some 20 or 30+ years for the oldest shops, and have fought a constant moral and legal battle to remain open.
despite a general swing towards cannabis acceptance in the west in the last few years, holland and amsterdam are moving towards the closure of these ledgendary coffeeshops.
thus i have felt compelled to take all these photos and create this slideshow, to share my love for these places.
i hope desperatly that images like this dont become a snapshot of by-gone-times, and we can all enjoy them indefinatly in the future.....
(also..for any pedantic coffeeshop nerds outthere, yes the fist image is of a coffeeshop in Haarlem, not Amsterdam, but sod it...)

A misty morning in the Dutch forest | Landscape photographer Albert Dros
Photographing under the canopy of a forest can be one of the most difficult forms of landscape photography, but extremely rewarding. With the light changing frequently, new compositions are presented and it can be a challenge to frame a shot before the light patterns change again. Albert Dros, one of Sony's European Imaging Ambassadors, took his α7R III to the so-called 'Forest of the Dancing Trees' in the Netherlands to try and capture the magical early morning light.
