Getting Around in Phuket
Getting Around in Phuket Thailand is easy! Most of the beach resorts are small enough to walk around and most hotels are located close to the beach, restaurants and shopping areas. However, if you feel like doing a little exploring around the island but your hotel is not on one of the main beaches, there are a number of transport options for you to choose from, including public buses, which are air-conditioned “micro” buses that service the Phuket Town area. And then there’s private bus services, known as “Songthaew”. But these blue pick-up trucks, decked with bench seats and a cover, run along set routes, but will stop anywhere along the way to drop off or pick up passengers. Songthaew buses leave from Ranong Road and serve most of the island with a regular service, travelling between the hub at Phuket Town and the destination.
Typically, but not always, the destination is written in English on a sign on the side of the bus. A number of pink Songthaew buses also run on two routes from Phuket City to Big C and Tesco, and Super Cheap to Chaofa Road. If the bus is moving, it is necessary to wave at the driver to signal him or her to stop and allow new passengers to get on. Payment is made to the driver when disembarking the bus. To get off, signal the driver by ringing the bell. The fare is typically between 15 to 35 thai baht for a designated route depending on the distance travelled.
There are few metered taxis operating on the island, and can generally be found outside of Phuket airport to the right of the main terminal building. Before starting any journey it is suggested to try and insist the fare meter be turned on if it is not switched on already. If this is not possible, it may be necessary to negotiate a fare. For shorter trips in and around Phuket Town, you may want to consider a motorbike taxi – which costs about 20 baht per person, depending on the distance. For those in the mood for a little island hopping, speedboats or long tail boats are also available from Chalong Bay pier or Rawai beach in the south of the island. Individual tickets may be purchased or an entire boat may be chartered. Tickets can be arranged on arrival or as part of a package from a travel agent in Phuket.
There are many car rental services on Phuket. Cars or jeeps can be rented at the airport, in Phuket Town, and at most of the more popular beaches. Do keep in mind that while most international car rental agencies will offer you a full-overage insurance, while some local companies may or may not. Another option would be to rent a bike, but for around 150 to 300 baht per day you can hire your own 100-150cc motorbike, which will typically require you to leave your passport as a deposit.
Be sure to inspect bikes before rental, put on a helmet, and drive with extreme caution as rental motorbikes are not normally insured and accidents are frequent. Regardless, inspect rental vehicles prior to rental and drive with caution, particularly as traffic in Thailand can be quite confusing. Motorcycles can be rented from rental agencies located on Rasada Road or from different operators at various beaches.

Thailand 2015: Phuket Town to Phi Phi Island
Song: Job 2 Do - Doo Doo Doo
(not my song)
November 2015
Vanessa:
We first landed in Phuket Airport at 06:00, where we were bombarded by taxi drivers trying to give us the best deal to take us to our hostel. When we arrived at our hostel it was literally 2 mattress on the floor and a fan on the wall, but hey, it was cheap, we had our own room and its Thailand.
We stayed there for 2 days to recover from jet lag and to adjust to the weather (coming from The Netherlands to Thailand)
Next we got on a boat to Phi Phi Island, the boat trip was great we got a little tour of the islands. When we arrived we were told to pay a small fee that goes towards helping the people there clean up after tourist. We were then again bombarded with people trying to sell us things and hotels and hostels and boat trips and boat taxis, literally everyone wanted to sell us something. Phi Phi for me was a very overrated place, yes it was beautiful and the beach was very nice but everything was over priced!
Luke:

Phuket is Thailand’s largest island and it’s known for its beaches, incredible views and it’s nightlife. Today I am going to be showing you Phuket’s top attractions.
There are over 25 Buddhist temples on the island and Wat Chalong is the most famous. It’s a three story temple and it’s well known because it houses a bone relic of the Buddha.
Here we are at Phuket’s big Buddha. This Buddha measures 45 meters in height and looks over southern Phuket. From most of southern Phuket you can see the Buddha and as you can see the complex has not been completed yet. What ever you buy at the complex goes towards funding the completion of the Buddha.
Thalang Road the most famous street in Phuket town. They recently applied for UNESCO World Heritage recognition. The street is made up of seno Portugues mansions and shop houses which have been rebuilt, re-painted and remodeled. On the ground level their cafes, restaurants and boutiques.
Patong Beach is the most touristic beach on the island. The beach has cafes, watersport activities and restaurants. It is a beautiful beach so you have to see it when in Phuket!
Another beautiful beach is Surin Beach, which is only a 15 minute drive north of Patong Beach. This is the perfect place to get a quite lunch, take a dip or go snorkeling.
Lastly we have Bang Tao Beach, this is a more family oriented beach, its less touristy and more relaxing. Phuket has many more beaches not just these three. The western coast is easier for swimming and the eastern coast tends to be more muddy.
We head out to Phang Nga Bay with Captain Mark’s Alternative tours. We signed on for a full day speed boat tour. First stop is Ko Lao Landing island to visit paradise beach. Next up we visit a 1000 year old bodhi tree.
We then head to Koh Panyi Village, a 1000 person muslim village. The families have been there for over two hundred years. Lastly we visit Panak Island to visit a dark cave, secret lagoons and a haunted pirates cave.
That was things to see and do in Phuket, Thailand! Comment below if you have been or want to go!

Finding a place to rent a driver and guide in Thailand
Hello there, one of our ebook readers retire in Thailand recently sent us a message sharing that his family recently came to beautiful Thailand.
But there were so many things to do and places to go that they weren't sure, out of all the options, what would be best and most suitable for her family and then scramble to get to the various places was also a concern.
Are you too, planning to come to Thailand and need to know where to rent a driver and guide to help you? In this video, I am going to show you why you should rent a driver and guide while in Thailand and three recommended options. Firstly, here is a short intro...
I’m Yariv here with you again; I’ve been happily living in Thailand for the past eight years. On this channel, I’ve been sharing various important facts and tips to help you get the most value out of your stay in Thailand. Today my topic will be: Finding a place to rent a driver and guide in Thailand.
On this channel, we share a lot of tips and information to save you time and money when seeking to visit or retire in Thailand successfully. There will be a lot more for you to benefit from so take a moment and click the bell notification below to subscribe to my Channel now … and like this video and enjoy our exciting giveaway.
Thailand is a massive place, and even if you are staying in Bangkok, there are many places to go and things to do. However, as a visitor, you will not be familiar with which places are the best to go and then you will need to figure out how to get to the various places. If you are planning a day-trip of sightseeing, then it is not practical to take public transportation. If you are going to rent a vehicle, there are several reasons why you won't want to drive yourself. Firstly the hassle of obtaining the required FULL driving license and not just the International driver’s license obtained from your home country. Also, the hazards of driving a strange vehicle in a foreign land, with unfamiliar road signs and local driving customs.
The better option is to rent the vehicle with a driver and a guide. Many companies will rent the vehicle with a driver, but that driver may not necessarily speak English so also choose the option with a guide who will not be distracted from driving to talk with you and share information about what you see as you drive along.
Your driver and guide will share with you the most suitable attractions for your group and also know the best places to eat (remember that it is customary to courteously offer to pay for the lunch of your driver and guide as well).
Most of the major car rental companies and many of the smaller companies will also offer the service of a driver and a guide with your vehicle rental. Here are three trusted, safe and varied recommendations:
Budget Car Rental (Thailand) - Offering friendly, affordable, world-class chauffeur service. Choose from one of their fully equipped, air-conditioned vehicles. They offer full-service pickup and delivery from any location in Thailand, giving you time to enjoy a relaxing, luxurious trip (from 2900 baht/USD$88 per day) for three persons basic chauffeur-driven car up to 11-seater luxurious van for 4200 baht/USD$127 per day.
AAA Thai: Offering full-day or half-day tours inclusive of the vehicle, English speaking driver, fuel, insurance and tax for 3000/3500 baht/USD$90/106. Choose one of their pre-designed itineraries or select appealing destinations, sightseeing tours and venues and travel at your own leisure time. Licensed by Tourism Authority of Thailand.
Chiang Mai Minibus Hire With Driver: offering car and driver and minibus and driver hire services for Chiang Mai and the north of Thailand. Hire a Minibus or car for a half/full day or a multi-day trip. They offer a choice of cars or minibusses which accommodate 1-14 passengers at extremely affordable rates of 1800 baht/USD$54 (car and driver per day) to 2200 baht/USD$66 (12-seater mini-van and driver per day).
Thank you for tuning in to learn why and how to find a place to rent a driver and guide in Thailand. ! I have learned the ropes and now enjoy my retirement in Thailand, and I am willing to help you to visit and to retire comfortably too so contact me now at namchaithailand.com. See you next time when I will share more to help you successfully retire in the land of smiles.

It lies off the west coast of Thailand in the Andaman Sea. Phuket Island is connected by the Sarasin Bridge to Phang Nga Province to the north.
