Picacho Peak State Park, AZ - June 2015
Some pictures and a video I took at Picacho Peak State Park right between Phoenix and Tucson along I-10.
Visit my Google+ page for a better quality of the pictures:
Picacho Peak is a small park. The only street in the park is approximately 2.2 miles long and takes you from the entrance on the east to the west of the park. But it's the same sites you can also see from I-10. The entrance fee there was $7 (note that it might change) per vehicle. There are various picnic areas and there are hiking trails which I believe take you pretty high and close to the rocks there.
If you're short on time while traveling through southern Arizona I would recommend you to just drive by the park on I-10. If you want to have a nice picnic, see some of the surrounding landscape and do some hiking then you should think about a visit ;) And there weren't any other people when I was there on Monday the 8th June at around 2 - 4pm.

World Famous Ostrich Ranch | Picacho Peak State Park
Picacho Peak State Park is a quick get-away just south of Phoenix. Pichaco Peak is known for its awesome trail system.
If you are visiting the Phoenix area and you are looking for an unique Arizona family activity then it might well be worth the drive to Rooster Cogburn Ostrich Ranch. Arizona ostrich farms are very popular with visitors.
The ostrich ranch is near Picacho Peak State Park just about an hour south of Phoenix. The ranch has a unique blend of animals, aquatic life, birds and much more.
We're a couple in our early 50's who've decided that adventure and excitement can't wait until retirement.
Stay tuned for some really exciting news in April 2019!!!

Civil War in the Southwest, Picacho Peak State Park 2012
Fun slideshow includes great pictures from reenactments of Southwestern Civil War battles at Valverde, Glorieta Pass, and an engagement at Picacho Pass on March 10 and 11, 2012.
Battles in the Shadow of Picacho
Each year, thousands of spectators and reenactors gather on Civil War battlegrounds across the country to commemorate events from that time. More than 3 million men fought in the Civil War and more than 620,000 lost their lives, more than died in World War I and World War II combined. The westernmost military engagements of the Civil War were fought in the New Mexico Territory, including the Battle of Picacho Pass. For more than 30 years, Civil War battles have been reenacted in the shadow of Picacho Peak, 40 miles north of Tucson.

2017.10.28 Picacho Peak
Day 1 - 336 miles. Home to Picacho Peak State Park.
Picacho Peak State Park is an Arizona state park located north of Tucson, just off Interstate 10. Picacho Peak rises to over 3300 feet and is visible from downtown Tucson, 45 miles away. The RV campground is surrounded by an amazing saguaro forest. The park is celebrated for wildflowers that appear mid-March to early April following good winter rain. Though set next to an interstate highway, the park's west face possesses an unspoiled Sonoran Desert setting. A small flat space on top of the spire can be reached via two trail heads. Portions of the trails are precarious, and hikers are aided by cables and catwalks, making the routes some of the few via ferrata in the United States. From the top, there is a view south to the Santa Catalina Mountains near Tucson, northwest to Tabletop Mountain near Casa Grande, north to the many mountain ranges surrounding Phoenix, and west to where the north-running Santa Cruz River runs underground supporting farms in a quaint desert valley. Picacho Peak’s most noted historic event occurred on April 15, 1862, when Confederate and Union scouting parties met in the Battle of Picacho Pass during the Civil War. This was the largest Civil War clash to take place in Arizona. A Union cavalry patrol from California skirmished with Confederate scouts from Texas, and three men were killed. Tucson was the capital of Confederate Arizona, and it is still pretty much a redneck town today.
