Jake & Dinos Chapman at PinchukArtCentre in Kyiv, Ukraine
Welcome to the (F)Unfair! In this video, we attend the opening of the exhibition Chicken by Jake & Dinos Chapman, who provide us with a very special interview. The exhibition Chicken by Jake & Dinos Chapman at the PinchukArtCentre in Kiyv (Ukraine) presents the specially produced new installation The Sum of all Evil, that represents a synthesized reflection upon the central themes such as the Holocaust, violence, and death. The Chapman brother's fascination with sharp subversive humor and unbridled aggression is apparent throughout their work. The Sum of all Evil is an enormous miniature scenery, which is composed of four encased dioramas. It is a continuation to Chapman's' earlier epic nine-part installations, Hell (1999-2000) and Fucking Hell (2008). Jake & Dinos Chapman: Chicken brings together many of the artist's most celebrated works: early iconic sculptures such as The Chapman Family Collection (2002), Sex I (2003) and From the Blackened Beyond (2011). In this video we attend the opening reception of the exhibition, and Eckhard Schneider, (General Director of the PinchukArtCentre) provides us with an introduction to the exhibition. Finally, Jake & Dinos Chapman talk in detail about the work The Sum of All Evil. The show runs until April 21, 2013.

Tony Oursler at PinchukArtCentre in Kyiv
Tony Oursler's exhibition agentic iced etcetera at the PinchukArtCentre in Kyiv, Ukraine is the first major solo exhibition by the artist in Eastern Europe. Tony Oursler's agentic iced etcetera presents specially produced new works, including a Ukrainian speaking installation, as well as some of the most iconic pieces of the artist. The New York-based artist has been a pioneer of New Media and video art. Tony Oursler is especially known for projecting moving images onto objects. In this video, Eckhard Schneider (General Director, PinchukArtCenter) talks about the mission of PinchukArtCentre, and Bjorn Geldhof (Deputy Artistic Director, PinchukArtCenter) speaks about the significance of Tony Oursler's work. Finally Tony Oursler talks in detail about the specially produced new works. The show runs until April 21, 2013.
As Eckhard Schneider, General Director of the PinchukArtCentre states: Tony Oursler (born 1957) is one of the pioneers of the genre. For Oursler video is a medium comparable to water in its extreme fluidity, one that had remained imprisoned within television for fifty years. He has not only succeeded in liberating video from the screen, but also in developing it into video sculpture. His works are introspections on the human psyche under the influence of mass media. The majority of the work that will be on show has been created especially for the PinchukArtCentre -- a dramatic labyrinth of sensations.
PinchukArtCentre is an international centre for contemporary art of the 21st century in Kyiv, the capital and largest city of Ukraine. It was opened in 2006 by the Victor Pinchuk Foundation.

Oursler is today among the most important as well as the most influential artists of the present day. Formally, Oursler has developed a wide-ranging use of materials such as resin, glass, fabric, steel and various found objects, which are kaleidoscopically overlaid with projection, light and sound, forming a unique embodiment of his themes.
Projecting moving images onto objects, Oursler moves beyond traditional uses of media such as cinema, television and the computer and creates something akin to living sculptures. The scenarios he devises are often full of poetic and humorous performances, incorporating all manner of physical and auditory representations of the human form.

The Kiev metro is very similar to the metro in Moscow and St. Petersburg. But there are large areas in Kiev not serviced by the metro. Kiev is also serviced by buses, minibuses, trolleybuses, trams and taxis.
The least expensive way to get to Kiev center from the airport is via bus. There are also minibuses that serve the airport. And, of course, taxis. If you have reserved an apartment or hotel, they might also provide transportation between their apartment or hotel and the airport, usually for a fee.
Approximately 2 million people visit Kiev each year. This is a significant increase in tourism since Ukraine introduced a visa-free regime for EU-member states and USA.

Dineo Seshee Bopape, the Main Prize winner of the Future Generation Art Prize 2017
The PinchukArtCentre (Kyiv, Ukraine) presents the 1st solo exhibition in Eastern Europe by Dineo Seshee Bopape (South Africa), the Main Prize Winner of the 4th edition of the Future Generation Art Prize. The show includes a major soil installation specially produced for the PinchukArtCentre.
The new monumental earth piece reminds, in form, of ancient spiritual places and draws upon traditional fertility iconography. Ukrainian soil is used in a systematic formal transformation. The earth moves from suggesting human architectural construction into the natural flow of a topographical landscape, evoking the lost presence of water, to finally glide into a quiet bed of soil. On top of that Bopape plays with herbs, crystals, clay, gold-leaf and special collected samples of earth coming from a dozen of spiritual places around the world. The Ukrainian Soil becomes a host for synergies of signs, beliefs, energies and materials for which our language lacks an essential vocabulary.
Soil is solid. It grounds and gives a sense of belonging. It is strongly political. It defines a sense of nationhood and identity. At the same time it remains seemingly still and neutral. However, in the work of Bopape, soil becomes a river. It expands from politics towards spirituality (or from spirituality through politics), reclaiming and re-discovering lost traditions and globally marginalized believe systems.
Bjorn Geldhof, curator of the exhibition and artistic director of the PinchukArtCentre: “We continue a beautiful tradition of presenting the winner of the Future Generation Art Prize with a solo exhibition at the PinchukArtCentre. Dineo Seshee Bopape has expanded the workgroup for which she was awarded the prize in Kyiv in 2017 with a new monumental earthwork. Her use of Ukrainian soil enables the viewers to experience soil in a completely different way. Not only is it a political narrative, but it also manifests as a source of energy and feeling.”
Dineo Seshee Bopape was awarded the Main Prize of the fourth edition of the Future Generation Art Prize for her earth sculpture made of rich black local Ukrainian soil that acts as a platform for objects, organic forms and geological fragments that represent actions and symbols. Her art works were presented as a part of “The Future Generation Art Prize @ Venice 2017” exhibition - an official Collateral Event of the 57th International Art Exhibition – la Biennale di Venezia organised by the Victor Pinchuk Foundation and the PinchukArtCentre.
The exhibition will be open from February 24 until May 13, 2018 in the PinchukArtCentre, Kyiv, Ukraine. Opening hours: from Tuesday through Sunday from 12 noon to 9 pm. Admission is free.
Ukraine exhibition explores our fragile state
Kyiv is confirming its place on the world map of contemporary art with a new international exhibition.
The double meaning of the show’s title, “Fragile State” – on at the PinchukArtCentre – is particularly relevant in Ukraine.
Bjorn Geldhof, the artistic director, said: “The exhibition tries to tackle that notion, to make that notion relevant in the context of today, of the world, but also very closely related to what’s happening in Ukraine.
“And further more we try to expand it into what that fragile state means beyond the political notion, because it’s also about a personal fragility, both on a physical and a mental level.”
