Pinnacles National Park
Hi everybody, this is a short video of our day hike at Pinnacles National Park.
This is our second attempt at this because we brought our lovely dog, Matcha with us the first time and dogs are not allowed at Pinnacles Nation Park.
The park has a $10 parking fee, which you will need to pay at the main store upon arrival. The pass is good for 7 days, so its not a bad deal if you plan on coming back.
We took the Bear Gulch Trail down to the reservoir and back up to High Peaks Trail. However we had to cut our hike short as we needed to make our 2.5 hours drive back to San Francisco. In total, our hike was 5.6 miles.

Camping and hiking through the Eastern areas of one of my favorite parks.
San Benito County - Old Pinnacles Hike
This hike begins on a primarily level trail beside a creek. The creek canyon gradually narrows as it approaches twisted rock formations and immense cliffs. The trail through the Balconies Cave requires boulder climbing and wading through water in the dark. The Balconies Cliffs Trails climbs to the base of a rock monolith. There are many challenging rock climbing opportunities. Varied wildflowers bloom along the trail.

San Benito County - Bear Gulch Cave Hike
This is a short hike. Nevertheless, its an intriguing hike which includes some technical challenges. Pinnacles National Park offers scenery that's weirdly beautiful. The hike through the cave requires some rock climbing. Its dark so bring a flashlight and expect water. The boulder lined reservoir at the top of the cave makes an attractive highlight.

New Idria Quicksilver Mine Day Trip
Linda and I took a day trip to the New Idria Mine and Ghost Town in San Benito County, CA on January 31,2013. Great California Historical Landmark. The ghost town burned in 2010 and access is now limited, but it is still worth the 54 mile drive from the intersection of Hwy 25 at Paicines, CA. It is especially pretty at this time of year when the pastures and farm lands are a vibrant green.

In the chill of the morning (29°F) I took a few minutes after paying my park fees to the drop box at the shuttered Pinnacles Visitor's Center to get some not so good video of a small flock of wild turkeys (Meleagris gallopavo) pecking their way through the grasses and mumbling as they ate.

Looking north along SR 25 in San Benito County, California
SR 25 (also known as Bolsa Road and the Airline Highway) begins at the intersection of Peach Tree Road and State Route 198 about 11 miles west of Priest Valley, in Monterey County, and is the northern extension of Peach Tree Road. It heads northwest, crossing into San Benito County and passing through the community of Bitterwater.
SR 25 provides access to the Pinnacles National Park east entrance, running parallel to the San Andreas Fault
Running parallel to the Diablo Range, SR 25 passes through the communities of Paicines and Tres Pinos and the city of Hollister. SR 25 continues northwest from Hollister, intersecting with State Route 156, and ends at U.S. Route 101 in Gilroy
