668 acres of tallgrass prairie, woodlands, wetlands and a stream. Since 1963 the Nature Center has served the Lincoln area as an environmental education center and wildlife sanctuary. Eight miles of hiking trails wind through various habitats and take visitors past non-releasable raptor exhibits, as well as bison, elk, and white-tailed deer herds

Pioneers park... a historical gem here in Lincoln, Nebraska, U.S.A. I've been waiting to do this park for quite a while - to do it on the perfect day. Today was almost just right. The trees are beginning to bloom but not quite in full bloom (this has been a strange spring to begin with)... ah well, today works well :p .
On this little journey, we kind'a do a loop through the park. The park is much prettier off the roadway than on... especially with the newly completed bicycle trail that runs through the park. Nevertheless, Pioneers Park is the perfect place to go - to get out of the city during the afternoon on a beautiful day.
One of the best places to go in the park is the Pioneers Park Nature Center, formerly the Chet Ager Nature Center. We also pass by Pinewood Bowl, home to the newly minted Pinewood Bowl concert series (it's been a couple decades since the last set of concerts)... a beautiful outdoor theater that could possibly be comparable to the Red Rocks outside of Denver.

Pioneers Park - Lincoln, Nebraska - August 2016
Located just outside Lincoln, Nebraska, this 668-acre park celebrates the prairie pioneers. Early planting began in 1929, with the final components of the original 1930 plan, designed by landscape architect Ernst H. Herminghaus, implemented during the Great Depression. Much of the work was completed by local and federal unemployment relief programs such as the Works Progress Administration, the National Youth Administration, and the Civil Works Administration.
