TX Dolly Hotel
HEADLINE: Vactioners talk about their date with Dolly
---------------------------------------
CAPTION: Some South Padre Island visitors say they had no idea Dolly would pack such a powerful punch so they decided to continue their vacation. A category 2 hurricane blew into town instead of the 'little tropical storm' they were expecting. They shared their Dolly stories with AP Correspondent Rich Matthews. (July 23)
----------------------------------------
[Notes:ANCHOR VOICE]
NB. THIS IS A VOICEOVER TRANSCRIPT, NOT A FULL SHOT LIST.
(vo)
Almost everyone who rode out hurricane dolly at the padre south resort hotel
has the same story...
(sot)melissa garcia
Everyone told us it wasn't a big deal it would be a little tropiocal storm so we decided to stay…
(vo)
Noone, noone expected this…
(sot) cassandra vera
The sounds woke us up, we could hear the windows shaking and that whistling noise..
(vo)
What cassandra vera didn't know is that that whistling noise was just the beginning..
(sot)
The first window that broke we were looking out of it when it shattered
(vo)
Within seconds hurricane dolly shredded this entire wing of the hotel, one by one breaking out window after window…
In the lobbies, and in every single room on the west side of the building..
That meant families and their pets, including four dogs and one very scared cat..
Had to spend the next five hours huddled in a dark hallway..
(sot)Laura gomez
We figured it would be safer over here because there is no glass we have five children with us and we wanted to make sure they were ok and not get cut..
(vo)
And glass was everywear, blowing around the building inside and out…
(sot)rocky hernandez
**It's horrible every window in the lobbies are out every floor every window is out you can see the beds all the stuff is blowing out…
(vo)
Still everyone got out alive and now they all have quote a story to tell about their night at the dolly motel..
(sot)no super needed repeat customer
******It was an eye opener and I think we'll appreciate each other a little more startng tomorrow..

Unfortunately, mishaps like this are not a very rare occurrence in the BVI's... this was just an extreme case and we happened to have the camera running from the onset. Still amazes me how many of these bareboat captains are completely unqualified to operate these vessels, yet the bareboat companies keep renting them out without proper screening... and this one damaged 6 boats in 45 minutes, 4 of them private vessels like ours. Guess as long as you have a credit card... Can find out more about our charter business at WindInMySails.com and if you like the video, feel free to SHARE it anywhere, and thanks in advance! :)

SUMMARY
=======
Virginia ( (listen)), officially the Commonwealth of Virginia, is a state in the Southeastern and Mid-Atlantic regions of the United States located between the Atlantic Coast and the Appalachian Mountains. Virginia is nicknamed the Old Dominion due to its status as the first English colonial possession established in mainland North America and Mother of Presidents because eight U.S. presidents were born there, more than any other state. The geography and climate of the Commonwealth are shaped by the Blue Ridge Mountains and the Chesapeake Bay, which provide habitat for much of its flora and fauna. The capital of the Commonwealth is Richmond; Virginia Beach is the most populous city, and Fairfax County is the most populous political subdivision. The Commonwealth's estimated population as of 2017 is over 8.4 million. The area's history begins with several indigenous groups, including the Powhatan. In 1607 the London Company established the Colony of Virginia as the first permanent New World English colony. Slave labor and the land acquired from displaced Native American tribes each played a significant role in the colony's early politics and plantation economy. Virginia was one of the 13 Colonies in the American Revolution. In the American Civil War, Virginia’s Secession Convention resolved to join the Confederacy, and Virginia’s First Wheeling Convention resolved to remain in the Union; that led to the creation of West Virginia. Although the Commonwealth was under one-party rule for nearly a century following Reconstruction, both major national parties are competitive in modern Virginia. The Virginia General Assembly is the oldest continuous law-making body in the New World. The state government was ranked most effective by the Pew Center on the States in both 2005 and 2008. It is unique in how it treats cities and counties equally, manages local roads, and prohibits its governors from serving consecutive terms. Virginia's economy has many sectors: agriculture in the Shenandoah Valley; federal agencies in Northern Virginia, including the headquarters of the U.S. Department of Defense and Central Intelligence Agency (CIA); and military facilities in Hampton Roads, the site of the region's main seaport.
