Jaude Square is a major city square and meeting place in the centre of Clermont-Ferrand, France. It is bordered by Rue Blatin on the North and Avenue Julien on the south. The square is home to many monuments, such as the Opera Theatre, the Jaude Shopping Mall and Saint-Pierre-des-Minimes Church.
Jaude Square was founded in the Roman times but was abandoned in the Middle Ages. The modern square was inaugurated on June 17, 2006, with over 30 000 people coming to attend the opening ceremony. Monuments, statues and department stores adorn and animate it. Place of Jaude version of XXI th century provides the pedestrian with a subtle combination of resurgent fountains, magnolias, tulip trees and selected minerals.
The epicenter of the city is lined with several monuments of different periods. The Church of St. Pierre des Minimes was built in the XVII th century Jesuit style and crowned with a dome in the XIX th century. The Opera Theater of Clermont-Ferrand is also built in the XIX th century, from an old hall with paintings. Early XX th century dates the department store dubbed the galleries of Jaude, came a typology of Paris famous examples. Two statues stand in the square: General Desaix de Nanteuil and Vercingetorix de Bartholdi. The square has been re-written with elegance in the 21st century century and hosts the tram line.

Historic Place de Jaude in Clermont-Ferrand, France, site of the launch of the First Crusade in 1095 and current headquarters of Michelin Tires. The plaza was founded two thousand years ago during the Roman era on a former lake. During the Middle Ages it reverted to a swamp-like condition and was rebuilt as a plaza from the 1600s onwards.

Clermont-Ferrand is a university city in central France, bordered by the volcanic Chaîne des Puys mountains. Near the fountains and statues of Place de Jaude square are the Gothic Notre-Dame-de-l'Assomption Cathedral, constructed from lava stone, and the Romanesque Basilica of Notre-Dame du Port, with mosaics. Northwest of the city is the volcano-themed Vulcania amusement park and museum with interactive shows.
Clermont-Ferrand is famous for the chain of extinct volcanoes that ring the city, including the highest, Puy-de-Dôme, some 13 km away from the city centre. One of the oldest cities of France, its first mention was by the Greek geographer Strabo, who called it Nemessos, a Gaulish word for a sacred forest. The settlement witnessed the famous Battle of Gergovia, in which the Gauls led by Vercingetorix triumphed temporarily over the Romans led ultimately by Julius Caesar. After the Roman conquest, the city was renamed Augustonemetum, a name which combined its original Gallic name with that of the Emperor Augustus. Its population was estimated at 15,000–30,000 inhabitants in the 2nd century CE, making it one of the largest cities of Roman Gaul.
Clermont has recently opened a intra-urban tramway providing access to a number of key points in the city. This tram, known as Line A, starts at Champratel and travels southwards through the city center and the University campus before ending at the Pardieu trains station. Trams are frequent. Clermont-Ferrand also has an extensive bus network connecting the downtown to the outlying suburbs. The stations and stops are frequent and the map is not confusing. The buses are limited on Saturdays and Sundays.
