Geechie Boy Mill, South Carolina | INDIE AMERICA | PBS Digital Studios
The state food of South Carolina is grits. And few people know more about grits, and the art of milling, than Greg Johnsman and his family.
In 2007, the Johnsmans started milling grits to supplement their farm income using antique equipment.
Now, Geechie Boy Mill is creating grits used in the country’s finest restaurants, including James Beard award-winning chefs in nearby Charleston and around the nation.

Tidal Sequence at a Saltmarsh Dieback Area in Wellfleet
This time-lapse footage captures a tidal sequence in an area of Cape Cod salt marsh. The unvegetated patch shown in this video is typical of a phenomenon known as salt marsh dieback.
In this video you see large numbers of fiddler crabs scuttling about, popping in and out of burrows while they feed and engage in territorial behavior. The tide flows in bringing nutrients, sediment, living organisms, and detritus. Notice the influx of fry, young fish that depend on the salt marsh for development and survival. Notice the nocturnal purple marsh crabs emerge in the bottom of the frame near the end of the video as evening falls.
Salt marsh dieback is studied extensively at Cape Cod National Seashore. [Read more](
