Pookode Lake is a scenic freshwater lake in the Wayanad district in Kerala, South India. Pookode is a natural fresh water lake nestling amid evergreen forests and mountain slopes at an altitude of 770 meters above sea level. It is 15 km away from Kalpetta.

Panamaram, the rivulet which ultimately becomes Kabani River, originates from the Pookode lake. It is spread across an area of 8.5 hectares and with a maximum depth of 6.5 metres. Lying 3 km south of Vythiri town, the lake is one of the most popular tourist spots in Wayanad.

The lake has the shape of India's map. This perennial fresh water lake, nestled among wooded hills, is only one of its kinds in Kerala. Pethia pookodensis, is a species of cyprinid fish known to occur only in Pookode Lake. The lake has abundance of blue lotus and fresh water fishes. The forests surrounding the lake hold many wild animals, birds and flies.There are groups of Blue water lily flowers scattered here and there in the lake.

The lake is under the South Wayanad forest division and run by District Tourism promotion council. Boating facilities, children's park, handicrafts and spices emporium and fresh water aquarium are among the tourist attractions here.

A major tourist destination in the Wayanad district is Pookode Lake. Pookode Lake is a natural freshwater lake surrounded by evergreen forests and mountain slopes at an altitude of 2500ft above sea level. Pookode Lake is the smallest and highest altitude freshwater lake in Kerala.

Pookode Lake has the shape of India's map. Pethia pookodensis, is a species of cyprinid fish known to occur only in Pookode Freshwater Lake. Pookode Lake has lot's of blue lotus and fresh water fishes. The forests surrounding the Pookode Lake hold lot's of wild animals, birds and flies.

A small but beautiful trek of the Chembra peak located in the Wayanad district of Kerala.
The trek is managed by the Van Sanrakshana Samiti (VSS).
At the end there is heart shaped lake up top.

സാഹസിക വിനോദസഞ്ചാരത്തിന് പുതിയ വയനാടന്‍ മാതൃക തീര്‍ക്കുകയാണ് കര്‍ലാട് തടാകവും പരിസരവും

വയനാട് എന്നും സഞ്ചാരികള്‍ക്കൊരു വിസ്മയമാണ്. വയനാട്ടില്‍ അധികം ആരും കേട്ടിട്ടില്ലാത്ത ഒരു വിനോദസഞ്ചാര കേന്ദ്രമാണ് കര്‍ലാട്.
വയനാട്ടിലത്തെുന്ന വിനോദസഞ്ചാരികള്‍ക്ക് ഇനി കര്‍ലാടിലെ പുത്തന്‍ വിസ്മയങ്ങളും ആവോളം ആസ്വദിക്കാം. ആരാലും ശ്രദ്ധിക്കപെടാതെ കിടന്നിരുന്ന വയനാട്ടിലെ കര്‍ലാട് തടാകം ഇന്ന് ആകെ മാറി. ഇപ്പോള്‍ കര്‍ലാട് തടാകത്തിന്‍െറ മാറിലൂടെ കയാക്കുകളില്‍ ഉല്ലസിക്കാം. തടാകത്തിന് കുറുകെ ഉയരത്തില്‍ സിപ് ലൈനിലൂടെ പറക്കാം... ഒപ്പം രാത്രിയില്‍ തടാകത്തിന്‍െറ മനോഹാര്യത ആസ്വദിച്ച് പ്രകൃതിയോട് ചേര്‍ന്ന് ടെന്‍റുകളില്‍ കഴിയാം . സാഹസിക വിനോദസഞ്ചാരത്തിന് പുതിയ വയനാടന്‍ മാതൃക തീര്‍ക്കുകയാണ് കര്‍ലാട് തടാകവും പരിസരവും. കര്‍ലാടില്‍ ആസ്വദിക്കാന്‍ ഏറെയുണ്ട് .വയനാട്ടിലത്തെുന്ന വിനോദസഞ്ചാരികള്‍ക്ക് രാത്രിയില്‍ താമസിച്ചുകൊണ്ട് ആസ്വദിക്കാന്‍ പറ്റിയ സ്ഥലമില്ലെന്നത്തിനു ഒരു പരിഹാരമാണ് കാർലാട് തടാകം . എടക്കല്‍ ഗുഹയില്‍ വൈകിട്ട് നാലുവരെയാണ് പ്രവേശനം. കൂടാതെ തിങ്കളാഴ്ച അവധിയുമാണ്. കുറുവാദ്വീപിലും വൈകിട്ടുവരെയായി പ്രവേശനം നിജപെടുത്തിയിട്ടുണ്ട്. മീന്‍മുട്ടി, സൂചിപ്പാറ, പൂക്കോട് എന്നിവിടങ്ങളിലും നിശ്ചിതസമയം കഴിഞ്ഞാല്‍ പ്രവേശനമില്ല. ഒപ്പം വെള്ളചാട്ടങ്ങള്‍ പലപ്പോഴാണ് അടച്ചിടുന്നതും സഞ്ചാരികളെ നിരാശരാക്കുന്നു. വേനല്‍ കനത്തതോടെ മുത്തങ്ങയിലും കാര്യമായി സഞ്ചാരികളെ ആകര്‍ഷിക്കാനാകുന്നില്ല. ഇതെല്ലാം മുന്നില്‍ കണ്ടാണ് സാഹസിക സഞ്ചാരത്തിന്‍െറ പുത്തന്‍ മാതൃകയുമായി കര്‍ലാട് അഡ്വഞ്ച്വര്‍ ക്യാമ്പ് ആരംഭിക്കുന്നത്. അടുത്തകാലത്തുവരെ കല്‍പറ്റ പടിഞ്ഞാറത്തറക്ക് സമീപമുള്ള കര്‍ലാട് തടാകം വയനാടിന്‍െറ ടൂറിസം ഭൂപടത്തില്‍ ഇടംപിടിച്ചിരുന്നില്ല.അവഗണനയുടെ വക്കിലായിരുന്ന ഈ തടാകത്തിന് ജില്ലാ ഭരണകൂടത്തിന്‍െറയും ഡി.ടി.പി.സിയുടെയും ഇടപെടലാണ് പുനര്‍ജന്മം നല്‍കിയത്.പൂക്കോട് തടാകത്തിന്റെ അത്ര വലുപ്പമില്ലെങ്കിലും ഏഴു ഏക്കറില്‍ നില കൊള്ളുന്ന തടാകം സാഹസിക സഞ്ചാരികളുടെ ഇഷ്ടകേന്ദ്രമായി മാറി കൊണ്ടിരിക്കുകയാണ്.വയനാട്ടിലെ തന്നെ ഏറ്റവും വലിയ രണ്ടാമത്തെ തടാകമാണ് കര്‍ലാട്.2016 മാര്‍ച്ചില്‍ സഞ്ചാരികള്‍ക്കായി തുറന്ന് കൊടുത്ത ഈ വിനോദസഞ്ചാര കേന്ദ്രം സമുദ്രനിരപ്പില്‍ നിന്ന് ആയിരത്തി ഇരുന്നൂറ് മീറ്റര്‍ ഉയരത്തില്‍ സ്ഥിതി ചെയ്യുന്ന ശുദ്ധ ജല തടാകമാണ്.ആഴ്ചയില്‍ എല്ലാ ദിവസവും തുറന്ന് പ്രവര്‍ത്തിക്കുന്ന ഇവിടുത്തെ പ്രവേശന സമയം രാവിലെ ഒന്‍പത് മുതല്‍ വൈകിട്ട് അഞ്ച് മണിവരെയാണ്.മുതിര്‍ന്നവര്‍ക്ക് മുപ്പത് രൂപയും കുട്ടികള്‍ക്ക് പത്ത് രൂപയുമാണ് പ്രവേശന ഫീസ്. പ്രൊഫഷണല്‍ സ്റ്റില്‍ കേമറകള്‍ക്ക് നൂറു രൂപയും വീഡിയോ കാമറകള്‍ക്ക് ഇരുന്നൂറ് രൂപയും നല്‍കണം. സഞ്ചാരികള്‍ വരുന്ന വാഹനങ്ങള്‍ക്ക് കേന്ദ്രത്തിന്റെ ചുറ്റുമതിലിനുള്ളിലേക്ക് പ്രവേശനമില്ല. എന്നാല്‍ കേന്ദ്രത്തിന് പുറത്ത് റോഡരികില്‍ പാര്‍ക്കിങ്ങ് സൗകര്യം ഒരുക്കിയിട്ടുണ്ട്.കര്‍ലാട് വിനോദ സഞ്ചാര കേന്ദ്രത്തിലെ പ്രധാന ആകര്‍ഷണം ബോട്ടിങ്ങാണ്.രണ്ടു പേര്‍ക്ക് സ്വയം ചവിട്ടി പോകാവുന്ന പെഡല്‍ ബോട്ട്, ഏഴുപേര്‍ക്ക് സഞ്ചരിക്കാവുന്ന തുഴക്കാരനോട് കൂടിയ തുഴ വഞ്ചി, ഒറ്റക്കും രണ്ടു പേര്‍ക്കുമൊക്കെയായി തുഴഞ്ഞ് പോകാവുന്ന കയാക്കിങ് ബോട്ട് എന്നിവയൊക്കെ ഇവിടുത്തെ പ്രത്യേകതകളാണ്.ബോട്ടിങ്ങിന് പ്രത്യേകം ഫീസേര്‍പ്പെടുത്തിയിട്ടുണ്ട്. സിപ് ലൈനാണ് ഇവിടുത്തെ മറ്റൊരു പ്രത്യേകത.ഇരുന്നൂറ്റി എഴുപത് മീററര്‍ നീളമുള്ള സിപ് ലൈന്‍ ദക്ഷിണേന്ത്യയിലെ തന്നെ ഏററവും വലിപ്പമേറിയതാണ്.തടാകത്തിന് കുറുകെയുള്ള ഈ സിപ് ലൈന്‍ യാത്ര സാഹസികത ഇഷ്ടപ്പെടുന്ന സഞ്ചാരികള്‍ക്ക് ആര്‍ക്കും തന്നെ മാറ്റി നിര്‍ത്താന്‍ കഴിയില്ല.കോഴിക്കോട് മാനന്തവാടി റോഡില്‍ പടിഞ്ഞാറേത്തറയില്‍ സ്ഥിതി ചെയ്യുന്ന കര്‍ലാട് തടാകം കല്‍പറ്റയില്‍ നിന്നും വെറും പതിനാറ് കിലോമീററര്‍ അകലെയാണ്. ഒറ്റ ദിവസത്തെ ഔട്ടിങ്ങ് എന്നതിലുപരി സഞ്ചാരികള്‍ക്ക് ഒന്നോ രണ്ടോ ദിവസം താമസിച്ച് തടാകത്തിന്റെ സൗന്ദര്യവും അവിടുത്തെ സാഹസിക വിനോദങ്ങളുമെല്ലാം ആവോളം ആസ്വദിക്കാനുള്ള സൗകര്യമുണ്ട്. തടാകത്തിനഭിമുഖമായി നിര്‍മ്മിച്ച ടെന്റുകളിലെ അന്തിയുറക്കം സഞ്ചാരികള്‍ക്ക് അവിസ്മരണീയ അനുഭവങ്ങളായിരിക്കും .താമസവും ഭക്ഷണവുമെല്ലാം ഒന്നിച്ചും അല്ലാതെയുമുള്ള പാക്കേജുകള്‍ ഇവിടെ ലഭ്യമാണ്.സീസണ്‍ അനുസരിച്ച് മൂന്ന് പേരടങ്ങിയ ഒരു കുടുംബത്തിന് വരുന്ന പാക്കേജ് ചാര്‍ജ് രണ്ടായിരത്തി അഞ്ഞൂറ് രൂപ മുതല്‍ നാലായിരം രൂപ വരെയാണ്. രാത്രിയില്‍ താമസിച്ചു കൊണ്ടാസ്വദിക്കാവുന്ന വയനാട്ടിലെ ഒരു വിനോദ സഞ്ചാര കേന്ദ്രം കൂടിയാണ് കര്‍ലാട്. കുട്ടി സഞ്ചാരികളുടെ മനം കവരാന്‍ എന്തൊക്കെ വേണമോ അതെല്ലാം വളരെ നല്ല രീതിയില്‍ തന്നെ സജ്ജീകരിച്ചിട്ടുള്ള ഒരു പാര്‍ക്കും ടെന്റുകള്‍ക്ക് സമീപം ഒരുക്കിയിട്ടുണ്ട്. തടാകത്തിലൂടെ വഞ്ചി തുഴഞ്ഞുള്ള യാത്രയും വ്യത്യസ്ത അനുഭവമാണ്.വയനാട്ടിലൂടെ ഒരു യാത്ര പ്ലാന്‍ ചെയ്യുമ്പോള്‍ സഞ്ചാരികള്‍ തീര്‍ച്ചയായും മനസ്സില്‍ ഓർത്തിരിക്കേണ്ട ഒന്നാണ് കര്‍ലാട്.

The lake is under the South Wayanad forest division and run by District Tourism promotion council. Boating facilities, children's park, handicrafts and spices emporium and fresh water aquarium are among the tourist attractions here.

PLACES WE VISITED IN WAYANAD, INDIA

1. Soochipara Waterfalls :
It is the best waterfalls in wayanad where you can get into water and enjoy. The rocks are slippery so be carefull guys. You need to walk for 15-20 min downstream the mountain from parking areato reach the falls.

2. Banasur Sagar:
It is best place to spend time with family as there is park,swings to play and boating available.
The boating charges are - Speed boat will charge Rs 450/- for 5 persons and peddling boat option is also available .

3. Banasur peak

4. Thirunelli Temple : This is lord vishnu temple. Don't miss the lotus pond behind the temple.

5. Chembra Peak: It is highest peak in wayanad. You can go trekking to this peak from meppadi which is highly recommended as the view on top of the peak is mesmerizing. You should start to trek early morning at 4 am as the entry is given in batch wise.

6. Pookot Lake: This fresh water lake is ideal place to spend time between mountains and boating . It is open from 9-5 pm. Pedaling boat will charge Rs 30/- fot two and Rs 50/- for 5 persons .

7. Edakkal Caves: It is 25km from kalpetta. It has stone carvings that depict existence of stone age in south india. Open from 9.30 - 4.30 pm. You have to trek up the mountain for an hour. so go prepare for it.
