Port Gdansk
The Port of Gdansk is the largest seaport in Poland. For years, it has been ranked among the leading Baltic ports in terms of throughput volumes. Thanks to the rapid growth of the deepwater container terminal, it has placed second for its container turnovers in the Baltic and attained the position of a hub receiving calls from ocean-going vessels. The Port of Gdansk is a universal port facility which offers cargo handling services in its state-of-the-art bulk and general cargo terminals, including Ro-Ro. The history of the port is closely related to the thousand-year old city of Gdansk which is the travel destination for many passengers arriving here on ferries and cruise ships. Port’s major advantages include its location, excellent hydrographical conditions, its extensive transport infrastructure and convenient access to land designated for investment.

LEGOLAND Visit and review videos:
A strategic and highly influential port for nearly a thousand years, Gdańsk was a stronghold of the Teutonic Knights, and later became an influential city within the Hanseatic League during the Middle Ages.
Largely destroyed in the Second World War, Gdańsk was splendidly rebuilt in the aftermath as one of Europe's most beautiful port cities. Today, Gdańsk has a population of 460,000, and is Poland's largest northern city, drawing numerous visitors into its historic city centre, its outstanding museums, and to its expansive beaches spread along the coast of the Gulf of Gdańsk, making it a popular summer destination for many Poles and foreign visitors alike.
St. Mary's Church (Bazylika Mariacka), ul. Podkramarska 5. One of the largest brick Gothic churches in Europe and supposedly the largest brick church in the world, nearly 20,000 people can fit inside the impressive St. Mary's. Dominant over Gdańsk's skyline since its completion in 1502, St. Mary's has since become one of the iconic landmarks for the city.
Green Gate (Brama Zielona), ul. Długi Targ 24. Tu-F 09:00-16:00, Sa-Su 10:00-17:00. Situated between the Long Market and the Motława River, the Green Gate was built between 1564 to 1568 as the residence of the Polish monarchy in Gdańsk.
Golden Gate (Brama Złota). Built between 1612 to 1614 to replace an earlier 13th century city gate as the brainchild of Abraham van den Blocke, a Flemish architect who lived in Gdańsk in the early 17th century, the gate was constructed in a Dutch Mannerist style.
Żuraw Crane, ul. Szeroka 67/68, . Built between 1442 to 1444, the Żuraw is one of the best intact cranes from medieval Europe. Along with handling cargo arriving on the Motława River, the Żuraw also acted as a city gate and a defensive fortification.
Neptune Fountain (Fontanna Neptuna). Situated in the center of the Long Market, the Neptune statue dates to 1549, while the fountain originates from 1633. Hidden away and miraculously surviving World War II intact, the fountain has since become a popular meeting point in the centre of the Main Town.
Long Lane (Ulica Długa). One of Gdańsk's most popular places for tourists, the Long Lane has been one of the city's most principle streets since the Middle Ages, flanked by the Golden Gate on one end and the Green Gate on the other. All throughout the Long Lane are numerous restaurants, cafes, shops, and impressive Mannerist and Dutch-inspired architecture.
Historic and Heroic Gdańsk, on the North Coast of Poland
Gdańsk, a port city on the Baltic Coast of Poland, is truly amazing — and amazingly historic. As any resident of the city will proudly explain, Gdańsk was the home of Copernicus (who changed the way we see ourselves in the cosmos), the place where the first shots of World War II were fired, and the home of the Solidarity movement that brought about the beginning of the end of the Soviet Union and its dominance over Eastern Europe. Here’s a little video explanation from Andrzej, who runs my hotel here (Gotyk House).

10 Things to do in Gdańsk, Poland Travel Guide script:
After visiting the Basilica, we walked over to the main pedestrian street in Gdansk: Dluga, also known as Long Street. Unlike most Polish cities, Gdansk doesn’t have a main square, but this stretch of road acts as the equivalent with lots of vendors and performers along the way.
On the west end of Dluga (Dooga) we came across the Amber Museum, which sounded a little unusual, so we bought tickets and went up. Here we learned the history of Amber trade in the Baltic, and we also discovered that the tower that now houses the museum, was once a prison and torture chamber.
Not done with museums just yet, our next stop was the Historical Museum of the City of Gdansk. I think we spent more time staring at the ornate doorways, ceilings and staircases, than we did at the exhibit itself!
Here, we also saw the Medieval Crane, which was first mentioned in texts in 1367, and was at one point the biggest working crane in the world.
Next, it was all aboard the SS Sołdek, a Polish coal and ore freighter which is now a ship-museum.
And since we’re on the topic of food, we need to show you a milk bar we really enjoyed.
On our last day in Gdansk, we walked over to the European Solidarity Centre, which is about a 15-20 minute walk from the Old Town. The museum tells the story of Solidarity, a Polish trade union and civil resistance movement, founded in 1980 at the Lenin Shipyard. This was the first union not controlled by the communist party, and it’s a fascinating museum to learn a bit more about the history.
And that’s a wrap for our Gdansk travel guide. We hope you guys enjoyed this video and that it gave you a few ideas of things to do in Gdansk on you visit. You know the drill, if you have any other tips or suggestions to share with travellers, feel free to pop those in the comments section below. Happy travels and until next time!
