Der erste Teil von Port Grimaud ist fertiggestellt worden im Jahre 1966. Port Grimaud ist entstanden auf dem trocken gelegten Sumpfland der Gemeinde Grimaud, wobei das Vorbild für Port Grimaud, das mit Kanälen durchzogene italienische Vendig war.
Port Grimaud ist wie sein Vorbild umgeben mit Wasser und kleine Brücken überqueren die Kanäle die gesäumt sind von kleinen pastellfarbenen Häusern im mediterranen Stil.
Port Grimaud hat trotz seinem grossen Vorbild (Venedig),
seit seiner Fertigstellung seine eigene Identität und eigenen Charme entwickelt. Das Zentrum von Port Grimaud bildet ein grosser Marktplatz und wie jeder Ort oder Dorf hat auch Port Grimaud seine eigene Kirche.
Vom Kirchturm in Port Grimaud hat man einen wundervollen Ausblick über ganz Port Grimaud bis hin zu Grimaud und seiner alten Burgruine und zur anderen Seite einen weiten Blick in den Golf von Saint Tropez.
Port Grimaud ist heute ein Touristenmagnet und in den warmen Monaten voller Leben. Port Grimaud bietet mit seinen vielen kleinen Lokalen und gemütlichen Restaurants, den vielen kleinen Geschäften alles das, was nicht nur den Touristen gefällt.
Ebenfalls sehr beliebt in Port Grimaud ist der zwei mal wöchentlich statt findende Markt.
Autos gibt es in Port Grimaud so gut wie keine. Nur Anwohner und Lieferanten haben die Erlaubnis in
Port Grimaud rein und raus zu fahren. Man bewegt sich in
Port Grimaud allgemein zu Fuss oder man benutzt eines der vielen Wassertaxis den Coche d´ eau (Wasserkutsche) oder man mietet sich eines der vielen kleinen Elektroboote und erkundet über das Wasser Port Grimaud.
Port Grimaud ist und bleibt ein Erlebnis, und nicht umsonst wird Port Grimaud liebevoll das klein Venedig der
Cote d' Azur genannt.

[EN] Port Grimaud is called French Venice or Mini Venice. It is fabulous town built purposely to be just like Venice. It is located seven kilometres south-west of Sainte Maxime and about six kilometres east of Grimaud. The town was the dream of Alsatian architect François Spoerry who in 1962 bought the marshy areas at the mouth of the river Giscle. It has been built with all channels in a Venetian manner, but with the houses having French fishermans style similar to those in Saint Tropez.

Il est situé à sept kilomètres au sud-ouest de Sainte-Maxime et environ six kilomètres à l'est de Grimaud. [PL] Port Grimaud jest nazywany francuską Wenecją lub Mini-Wenecją. To ciekawe miasto zbudowano celowo w taki sposób, by było podobne do Wenecji. Znajduje się ono siedem kilometrów na południowy-zachód od Sainte-Maxime i około sześciu kilometrów na wschód od Grimaud. Miasto było marzeniem alzackiego architekta Françoisa Spoerry, który w 1962 roku kupił bagniste tereny przy ujściu rzeki Giscle. Wszystkie kanały miasta są zbudowane według wzoru weneckiego, jednakże architektura domów została oparta na francuskim stylu rybackim, podobnym do tego, który istnieje w Saint-Tropez.

Visiting Grimaud in the South of France
This summer we took our caravan abroad for the first time, and made the epic journey from the Rhondda valley to the South of France.
After a few days recovering on the beach, we took our first excursion and visited the local village of Grimaud in Provence-Alpes-Cote d'Azur.
The footage doesn't do it justice - it was absolutely beautiful and a village you absolutely must visit if you're ever in the area. The weather was so warm that we stumbled up there in the early evening when it was a little cooler, and enjoyed the quiet streets and a visit of the Chateau almost entirely to ourselves.
