Walking Around the Little Potala Palace in Chengde with Lina | 和李娜一起逛承德小布达拉宫
This is the fifth video of my Chengde Tour.
I went to Putuo Zongcheng Temple, the largest temple complex among the eight Outlying Temples of Chengde.
It was modeled after the Potala Palace in Tibet, so it was also called the Little Potala Palace.
It was orginally dedicated to Emperor Qianlong for his mother's birthday and his own birthday.
It's for receiving the heads of Ethnic Minority Groups or religious groups.
I guess Emperor Qianlong must have been expecting Dalai Lama to his birthday celebration.
It costed about 55 million dollars.
We can see the beautiful Tibetan Style architechtures here.
And we can also see how luxurious life did the Qing Emperors have.

The Putuo Zongcheng Temple is part of the Eight Outer Temples located in Chengde, which are part of the World Heritage List along with the Chengde Mountain Resort.
These temples were administered by the Lifan Yuan, an administrative department for the affairs of ethnic minorities such as the Mongolians and Tibetans, hence the different combinations of architectural style which could be seen throughout these Eight Outer Temples in Chengde.

Located just a few hours northeast of Beijing is the city of Chengde in Hebei province. During the Qing Dynasty, the Emperor would come here to escape from the heat of Beijing. One particular Emperor - Qianlong - had two incredible temples built here. One is a replica of the Potala Palace in Lhasa, Tibet, and the other was built especially for his 70th birthday and a visiting Panchen Lama.

The Puning Temple (Chinese: 普宁寺; pinyin: Pǔníng Sì; literally: Temple of Universal Peace), commonly called the Big Buddha Temple,[1] is a Buddhist temple complex in Chengde, Hebei province, China. It was built in 1755 during the reign of the Qianlong Emperor in the Qing dynasty as a sign of the Qing Empire's reverence for Tibetan Buddhism. It is located near the Chengde Mountain Resort, and alongside the equally famed Putuo Zongcheng Temple, it is one of the Eight Outer Temples of Chengde. Much how the Putuo Zongcheng Temple was modeled after the Potala Palace in Lhasa, the Puning Temple was modeled after the Samye Monastery, the sacred Lamaist site in Tibet. The front temple was constructed in the Chinese style, although the temple complex follows both Chinese and Tibetan architectural styles. The Puning Temple also houses the world's tallest wooden sculpture of the bodhisattva Avalokiteśvara (22.28-meter-high and 110-ton),[2][3] hence the Puning Temple is often nicknamed the Big Buddha Temple. Episode 6 - The video log from Day 6 of our October 2019 Great Wall of China hiking trip. We took a break from the wall--but not from walking--with a visit to Chengde. Here, we took in the expansive Imperial Mountain Resort (a UNESCO-designated World Heritage Site) built by the Qing Dynasty emperors as a summer retreat. Following that, we visited the lovely Puning Temple (“Temple of Universal Tranquility”) modeled on a Tibetan monastery. The last stop was at the stunning Putuo Zongcheng, a Buddhist temple complex built in the 18th century during the reign of the Qianlong Emperor and often referred to as the Little Potala Palace since its design was based on the Potala in Lhasa.

The Qing emperors knew exactly where to shelter during Peking's hot summer months, in the Valley of Coolness, a beautiful forested river valley 250 kilometres northeast of Peking. In former Rehe Province, today's Chengde, is the old summer residence of the Manchu Dynasty that took more than a century to construct.
The Forbidden Palace and its park and gardens are now open to the public. Just as in Peking, the emperor went about his official business in the southern front hall with the royal living quarters situated in the rear section of the complex. The huge garden, with its many ponds and bridges is encircled by a 10 kilometre wall beyond which are several large valleys. The garden covers 560 hectares and is the largest Imperial park complex in China, a unique architectural work of art.
The temple monastery of Xumi-Fushou-Miao is one of the most impressive buildings in the city. Translated, the temple's name is, Happiness and Longevity of the Summer Hill. The temple was built in 1780 to mark the visit to China of a senior Tibetan religious dignitary, the sixth Panchen Lama, and is a replica of what was his own monastery in Tibet.
The Mahayana Pavilion is the centre of Buddhist religious belief, namely, Sumeru Mountain. Thus the five-story building is located in the middle of an architectural mandala. The magnificent opulence of the Pavilion was a reflection of China's vast wealth. Each one of the architectural elements that are situated close to the Mahayana Pavilion adhere to the disciplined structure of the Buddhist Universe.
In the 18th century, China had become the greatest and most prosperous Empire in the world. The magnificent summer residence of the Qing Emperor and its surrounding buildings are a glorious and remarkable demonstration of ultimate power.

The magnificent temple of Putuo Zongsheng Miao lies in front of the beautiful mountains and hills that surround Chengde, a town located about 250 km. north east of Beijing. The temple belongs to the so-called 8 Outer Temples of China’s former Summer Palace.The so-called Red Terrace is the main building of the Putuo Temple. It is an impressive and majestic building that is located on top of a 17m high terrace. Putuo Zongsheng Miao consists of around forty halls and buildings, many of which served as the setting for great ceremonies and official functions. Only on rare occasions were foreign guests, such as the English Legation in the year 1793, allowed to visit the Summer Palace and its 8 Outer Temples. Of course, today, foreign visitors are very welcome and Chengde is one of China’s most popular tourist attractions.
