hong kong budget travel -Stone Slabs Street tour(Pottinger Street) VR360
The first Roman Catholic cathedral of Hong Kong was built in 1843 at the junction of Pottinger Street and Wellington Street[ and was destroyed in a fire in 1859. It was rebuilt, but subsequently a different site was selected and the current Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception at Caine Road was completed 1888.[2]
In the 19th century, Chinese and European residents used to live separately in different neighbourhoods. The street once acts as a rough boundary between the two groups. The Chinese used to mainly live west of the street and westerners to the east. An Air-Raid Precaution Tunnel was built beneath the street in 1940-41 but was abandoned after the Second World War and was filled back in the 1980s.

Mind The Step - [Pottinger Street or Stone Slab Street, Hong Kong heritage of 1858]
Culture. What is it?
Textbook definitions speak of groups and societies, their shared
beliefs, views, behaviors, etiquette and symbolic objects represented
through aspects of everyday life, social codes and their environment.
Nevertheless, some aspects of culture cannot be easily defined or even
represented in words - a feeling, an energy, a buzz generated from
thin air.
Do we pick up social cues from those around us; what they wear and how
they act? Is it as a result of the nouveau gleam of modernization and
technology? Or is it a look into the past, through history, and back
again, to what remains today?
Perhaps one of the best ways to see culture in its many facets is
through the steps of Pottinger Street, Hong Kong. More than just
simply a connection between the business hub of Central and the
stately and iconic Former Police Headquarters, the Pottinger Street
steps are a case study of culture. They tell their own story of Hong
Kong through their inhabitants: stalls, restaurants, shops, bars and
the sheer variety of people parading its streets.
Perhaps culture cannot and simply should not be described or
explained. Perhaps culture is just there to be experienced. So immerse
yourself - and, mind the step!

Trip to Hong Kong, EP 9 – Street markets in Central (Li Yuen Street East and Stone Slab Street)
These street markets are in the centre of the financial district on Hong Kong Island. Pottinger Street is known as the Stone Slabs Street since the street is paved unevenly by granite stone steps. It is more than a hundred years old. Worth climbing the steps... good exercise :-)
