SUMMARY
=======
Powell Butte is an extinct cinder cone butte in Portland, Oregon, United States. It is part of the Boring Lava Field, which includes more than 80 small volcanic edifices and lava flows in the Portland–Vancouver metropolitan area. The region around Powell Butte has a cool climate, and the butte and its surroundings feature meadows, rivers, and mixed forests. Powell Butte hosts the Powell Butte Nature Park, which includes about 612 acres (2.48 km2) of trails for biking, hiking, and horseback riding.
Powell Butte lies within historic territory of the Confederated Tribes of the Grand Ronde Community of Oregon. The land surrounding the butte has been used for an orchard, farming, and scientific research on potatoes. Today two underground reservoirs at the Butte each hold 50,000,000-US-gallon (190,000,000 L) of fresh water as a primary part of the public water system for Portland and much of the surrounding region.
Scouters Mountain Nature Park with the drone
We ventured out to a place called Scouters Mountain Nature Park in the Happy Valley part of Portland Oregon, we had never been here before and found it by accident while we were out for a drive. We took the drone out and got some amazing shots in the clouds. This place was neat, lots of trails that we want to go back and explore when we have more time.

I'm Back!... Kind of - Taking it Easy Mountain Biking Powell Butte Portland Oregon 20181026
2 months and 29 days ago (seriously), I had a nasty spill at Snow Summit Bike Park in Big Bear, CA. I sent a jump on Westridge faster than I normally had in the past. I'm not too sure the speed was the issue regarding the unintended landing, but I am sure the fact that I had not performed proper shock adjustment after installing two new volume spacers in my rear shock, was indeed the culprit. I got bucked off the lip of the jump, sending me nose-heavy, all while roughly 10-12 feet in the air and of course, landing in a very undesirable manner. Prior to my shock adjustment, nose-heavy hang time was simply never a problem on my bike, a Giant Trance (don't worry, bike's okay), especially on this jumped I'd hit several times before with no issues. I broke my clavicle and dislocated my elbow, resulting in an ulnar head fracture, radial head fracture, and significant ligament damage. Oh, and I broke my big piggy, too.
Now, after surgery and lots of physical therapy, my elbow is doing great. I have limitations in my range of motion still, but I can bear weight on it, pick myself up from the floor (after playing with my dog), lie on my side, and do basically everything I could before. However, I'm not totally in the clear, so I need to take it very easy and slowly work my way back into riding the fun and chunky stuff, hence why I came to this little gem.
I am astounded by how beautiful the trails are here in Oregon. I bought myself a cheapo, but new hardtail MTB that I am going to build up to be an awesome XC bike for when I am not shredding trails on my full squishy big boy bike. Today, this new bike felt so freaking awesome! It pedals so nice, despite the cheap, sealed bottom bracket and heavy cranks. It also descends with surprising stability and confidence. I could definitely get much more speed out of it, but first I need to swap that behemoth 3x8 drivetrain to a 1x11, swap out the fork to something beefier, and get a dropper for it. Since I'm going to take it easy though, I'm in no hurry for all of that. Needless to say, it will certainly be a fun build.
Hopefully you've read this far. It was a mouthful. I've noticed, despite all the great riding out here, there is not a lot of quality, shared footage of it. My personal mission is to change that.

MTB A free-riders paradise | Black Rock Mountain Bike Area Oregon
Went out to Black Rock in Oregon today to film some friends mountain biking. Enjoy. The Black Rock trail system is located outside Falls City, southwest of Salem. Designated as an IMBA Epic Ride by the International Mountain Bicycling Association, Black Rock consists of smooth terrain bolstered by extensive human-built wooden features, including skinnies, ladders and jumps. You’ll also encounter big gaps, berms and drops in this free-rider’s paradise.
I recommend having previous mountain biking experience, as all the terrain is rated for intermediate to extreme skill levels. If you’ve ridden before but aren’t super-comfortable with free-riding and human-built features, the Basic Training area can help you get acquainted — and if you get stuck on the mountain, all trails have ride-around routes to help you get down safely. (But before you ride down, you may want to camp out for a while — Black Rock has great spots in the woods where spectators can watch skilled riders hit the massive features.)
