BOGOR PALACE : the presidential palace in botanical garden
The Bogor Palace (Indonesian:Istana Bogor, Dutch:Het Paleis te Buitenzorg) is one of six Presidential Palaces of Indonesia, it is located in the city of Bogor, West Java. The palace is noted for its distinctive architectural and historical features, as well as the adjoining botanical gardens. Istana Bogor was opened to the public in 1968 to public tour groups (not individuals), with the permission of the acting President of Indonesia, Suharto. The gardens of the palace covers an area of 284,000 square metres (28.4 hectares). The original colonial building on the site of Istana Bogor was a mansion named Buitenzorg (also Sans Souci, meaning: Without a care in Dutch), which dates back to 1745 as a country retreat for the Dutch Governors to escape the heat and diseases of Batavia. The location for the new palace was discovered by Baron van Imhoff on 10 August 1744, in a village named Kampong Baroe. On the site he ordered a mansion to be built, however the construction wasn't completed by the end of his career in 1750 and thus it was continued by his preceder Jacob Mossel. An extensive renovation of the palace occurred under Governor-General Herman Willem Daendels (1808 – 1811). The palace was further expanded into two floors, with a new wing added in the east and west of the original structure

STORYLINE
US President George W Bush shrugged off massive protests against his visit to Indonesia on Monday as a sign of a healthy democracy.
I applaud a society where people are free to express their opinion, Bush told a joint news conference in Indonesia's presidential palace with Indonesian President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono.
Bush also praised Indonesia's efforts against Islamic extremists.
Bush, facing mounting anger over US foreign policy in the Mideast and the invasions of Iraq and Afghanistan, arrived in Indonesia under tight security, with 18,000 police and soldiers patrolling the hilltop town of Bogor.
Talks with Yudhoyono, a close ally in Washington's war on terror, touched on global issues and Indonesia's bird flu outbreak, the need for a tsunami early warning system, improved education and diversifying energy.
Bush told the Indonesian leader: You lead a large and diverse nation with a very bright future.
Yudhoyono, meanwhile, thanked the US and other members of the international community for their help in the wake of the devastating December 26, 2004 Asian tsunami and the earthquake which shook the central Indonesian island of Java in May this year, killing 5,800.
Bush arrived in Bogor, about 70 kilometres (45 miles) south of Jakarta, by helicopter in heavy rain.
Rather than spend the night in Indonesia, Bush left on Monday night for Hawaii, where he was set to have breakfast with US troops on Tuesday, and to drop by the US Pacific Command.
He will be back in Washington on Wednesday.
Indonesia was the last foreign stop on Bush's eight-day, post-election journey that also took him to Singapore and then Vietnam, where he met with world leaders to seek a common strategy for talks aimed at encouraging North Korea to abandon its nuclear weapons programme.

Widodo announces new Indonesian cabinet
(23 Oct 2019) Indonesian President Joko Widodo has named his election rival as his defence minister and added technocrats and entrepreneurs to his Cabinet.
Widodo was sworn in on Sunday for his second term. He promised to promote professionals to top posts rather than party officials.
Former General Prabowo Subianto lost the past two elections to Widodo. But he said Monday he would join the president's Cabinet to help strengthen the country's defence.
Widodo and the ministers sat on the steps of the presidential palace in Jakarta as their appointments were announced.
In other Cabinet appointments announced Wednesday, Sri Mulyani Indrawati, who was managing director at the World Bank, was reappointed Finance Minister.
