The Ochoco National Forest is located in the Ochoco Mountains in Central Oregon in the United States, north and east of the city of Prineville, location of the national forest headquarters. It encompasses 850,000 acres (3,440 km2) of rimrock, canyons, geologic oddities, dense pine forests, and high desert terrain, as well as the headwaters of the North Fork Crooked River. A 1993 Forest Service study estimated that the extent of old growth in the forest was 95,000 acres (38,000 ha).

What is happening to Little McKay Creek! Ochoco National Forest in Oregon
September 26, 2018, I enjoy hiking and riding in the Ochoco National Forest in Oregon outside of Prineville. My family heritage homesteaded in the area back in the late 1800's. My grandfathers logged in the Ochocos. Oh how sad they would be to see what is happening to the Ochocos.
I am sad and frustrated about what I am seeing done to our forest in my area. The last 3 years I started videoing and photographing what I have seen done by the Forest Service. The Little McKay Creek and McKay Creek the forest service have been working on saying to it to increase and save the fish. (Have to edit later when I remember which species.)
What I see with heavy equipment changing the flow and cutting of trees and pushing them into the creek bed is just making a huge mess.
These creeks mostly dry up in late summer and there are a few water holes that stay year around.
In my video you can see what is happening. I am sure this is just the beginning of their project for the Little McKay Creek.
I should put up the videos of what a year has done for McKay Creek. The willows that were disturbed are dead now and the logs and debris they pushed into the creeks is a tangled mess. I don't see how that improved on nature. The Forest Service also built a sturdy Montana fence to keep people away for McKay Creek. Looks to me in my opinion that is keeps the wildlife like elk and deer out too.
I am sad to see something that was so beautiful turned into such an ugly mess by our Forest Service!.
