Visiting 9/11 Memorial in New York City
Visiting 9/11 Memorial in New York City.
The National September 11 Memorial & Museum is a memorial and museum at the World Trade Center site in New York City, honoring the victims of the September 11 attacks.
One World Trade Center (also known as the Freedom Tower 1 World Trade Center, One WTC and 1 WTC) is the main building of the rebuilt World Trade Center complex in Lower Manhattan, New York City. It is the tallest building in the Western Hemisphere, and the sixth-tallest in the world. The supertall structure has the same name as the North Tower of the original World Trade Center, which was completely destroyed in the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001. The new skyscraper stands on the northwest corner of the 16-acre (6.5 ha) World Trade Center site, on the site of the original 6 World Trade Center. The building is bounded by West Street to the west, Vesey Street to the north, Fulton Street to the south, and Washington Street to the east.
The building's architect was David Childs, whose firm Skidmore, Owings & Merrill (SOM) also designed the Burj Khalifa and the Willis Tower. The construction of below-ground utility relocations, footings, and foundations for the new building began on April 27, 2006. One World Trade Center became the tallest structure in New York City on April 30, 2012, when it surpassed the height of the Empire State Building. The tower's steel structure was topped out on August 30, 2012. On May 10, 2013, the final component of the skyscraper's spire was installed, making the building, including its spire, reach a total height of 1,776 feet (541 m). Its height in feet is a deliberate reference to the year when the United States Declaration of Independence was signed. The building opened on November 3, 2014.
On March 30, 2009, the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey (PANYNJ) confirmed that the building would be officially known by its legal name of One World Trade Center, rather than its colloquial name of Freedom Tower. The building is 104 standard floors high, but the tower has only 94 actual stories.
The new World Trade Center complex will eventually include five high-rise office buildings built along Greenwich Street, as well as the National September 11 Memorial & Museum, located just south of One World Trade Center where the original Twin Towers stood. The construction of the new building is part of an effort to memorialize and rebuild following the destruction of the original World Trade Center complex.

Freedom Tower Sphere | One World Trade Center | New York City. More simply known as 1 WTC and previously known as the Freedom Tower, is the lead building of the new World Trade Center complex in Lower Manhattan, New York City. Antenna nearly finished.
The 104-story supertall skyscraper is being constructed in the northwest corner of the 16-acre World Trade Center site, occupying the location where the original 8-story 6 World Trade Center once stood. The building is bounded to the west by West Street, to the north by Vesey Street, to the south by Fulton Street, and to the east by Washington Street. Construction on below-ground utility relocations, footings, and foundations for the building began on April 27, 2006. On March 30, 2009, the Port Authority confirmed that the building would be known by its legal name of One World Trade Center, rather than the colloquial name, Freedom Tower.
At the time of its completion in 2013, One World Trade Center will be the tallest building in the Western Hemisphere and the third-tallest building in the world by pinnacle height, with its spire reaching a symbolic 1,776 feet (541.3 m) in reference to the year of American independence. 1 WTC has been the tallest building in New York since April 30, 2012. The new World Trade Center complex will also feature three other high-rise office buildings, located along Greenwich Street, and the National September 11 Memorial & Museum, located just south of One World Trade Center, where the Twin Towers once stood. The construction is part of an effort to memorialize and rebuild following the destruction of the original World Trade Center complex during the attacks of September 11, 2001.

Official 9/11 Memorial Museum Tribute In Time-Lapse 2004-2014
A letter from the CEO & Founder of EarthCam:
It's been a heroic undertaking to rebuild downtown New York City after the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks. Within days of this national tragedy, I personally installed a camera to webcast the rescue and recovery for the families, and the world, to see the brave determination of first responders. As the recovery effort continued, we installed more cameras to document the rebuilding and construction of the site. This commemorative time-lapse honors the victims of 9/11 and is dedicated to their families and friends, with special gratitude to the first responders and the steadfast construction teams.
A super hardworking team at EarthCam, who I am so proud to work with, spent countless hours keeping the many webcams at the World Trade Center active for 4,617 days (and counting). This unprecedented effort provided our in-house editors with over 1 million images to choose from when creating this two-and-a-half minute video, as well as our other commemorative World Trade Center movies.
We at EarthCam are committed to continuing this photographic documentation to educate future generations and have donated all the images as well as the original camera to the 9/11 Memorial Museum.
I hope this time-lapse serves as a way to recognize that for the 10 years of construction, there was constant progress made to rebuild these important 16 acres of America.
Sincerely,
Brian Cury

On top of the World Trade Center 2001
Amazing video footage i took at the world trade center from the ground, observation deck and roof in the summer of 2001. I hope you like it and thanks for watching. I have also uploaded my video with extra footage and added music. Here is the link and i hope you like it.
Although most of the space in the World Trade Center complex was off-limits to the public, the South Tower featured an indoor and outdoor public observation area called Top of the World Trade Center Observatories on its 107th and 110th floors.
The original World Trade Center was a complex with seven buildings featuring landmark twin towers in Lower Manhattan, New York City, United States. The complex opened on April 4, 1973, and was destroyed in 2001 during the September 11 attacks. The site is currently being rebuilt with five new skyscrapers and a memorial to the casualties of the attacks. As of November 2011, only one skyscraper has been completed, with four more expected to be completed before 2020. One World Trade Center will be the lead building for the new complex and is expected to be finished by 2013. A sixth tower is still awaiting confirmation to be built. At the time of their completion, the original 1 and 2 World Trade Center were the tallest buildings in the world.
The complex was designed in the early 1960s by Minoru Yamasaki and Associates of Troy, Michigan, and Emery Roth and Sons of New York.[2] The twin 110-story towers used a tube-frame structural design. To gain approval for the project, the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey agreed to take over the Hudson & Manhattan Railroad, which became the Port Authority Trans-Hudson (PATH). Groundbreaking for the World Trade Center took place on August 5, 1966. The North Tower (1) was completed in December 1972 and the South Tower (2) was finished in July 1973. The construction project involved excavating a large amount of material, which was later used as landfill to build Battery Park City on the west side of Lower Manhattan. The cost for the construction was $400 million ($2,200,000,000 in 2011 dollars).[3] The complex was located in the heart of New York City's downtown financial district and contained 13.4 million square feet (1.24 million m2) of office space.[4][5] The Windows on the World restaurant was located on the 106th and 107th floors of 1 World Trade Center (the North Tower) while the Top of the World observation deck was located on the 107th floor of 2 World Trade Center (the South Tower). Other World Trade Center buildings included the Marriott World Trade Center; 4 World Trade Center; 5 World Trade Center; 6 World Trade Center, which housed the United States Customs. All of these buildings were built between 1975 and 1981. The final building constructed was 7 World Trade Center, which was built in 1985. The second King Kong was filmed in 1976 with some scenes mentioning and showing the World Trade Center. The World Trade Center experienced a fire on February 13, 1975, and a bombing on February 26, 1993. In 1998, the Port Authority decided to privatize the World Trade Center, leasing the buildings to a private company to manage, and awarded the lease to Silverstein Properties in July 2001.
On the morning of September 11, 2001, Al-Qaeda-affiliated hijackers flew two 767 jets into the complex, one into each tower, in a coordinated terrorist attack. After burning for 56 minutes, the South Tower (2) collapsed, followed a half-hour later by the North Tower (1), with the attacks on the World Trade Center resulting in 2,753 deaths.[6] 7 World Trade Center collapsed later in the day and the other buildings, although they did not collapse, had to be demolished because they were damaged beyond repair. The process of cleanup and recovery at the World Trade Center site took eight months. The first new building at the site was 7 World Trade Center, which opened in May 2006. The Lower Manhattan Development Corporation (LMDC), established in November 2001 to oversee the rebuilding process, organized competitions to select a site plan and memorial design. Memory Foundations, designed by Daniel Libeskind, was selected as the master plan, which included the 1,776-foot (541 m) One World Trade Center, three office towers along Church Street and a memorial designed by Michael Arad. #911 #NewYork #2001

9:11 Tour & One World Observatory - Walks Of New York - Unravel Travel TV
There's a lot of symbolism in One World Trade Center. Standing at an iconic 1776 feet tall, it's said to be the strongest building in the world; earthquake, storm and attack-resistant. A symbol of hope and the enduring strength of a city that was knocked down and got up again. On the Walks Of New York small group World Trade Center tour you'll travel with a local tour guide for a more personal take on the sites and events that unfolded here. You'll hear harrowing personal stories of tragedy and loss on September 11th; visit the most important sites to pay tribute to victims and firefighters; see the Survivor's Tree to learn of New York's battle to rebuild; and finish on a high with a visit to One World Observatory.
Your tour starts at St. Paul's Chapel; familiar to most from the footage and videos beamed around the world after the 9/11 terror attacks. This is where families and friends gathered to pray for their loved ones, support each other and await news from the wreckage.
Your first visit sets a more personal tone for your World Trade Center tour. Together with your small group and guide you'll move on to the American Express Eleven Tears Memorial to hear stories of the eleven colleagues who perished here, and to the stunning Winter Gardens rebuilt now even more beautiful than ever.
Speaking of beautiful, the two reflecting pools built in the footprint of the towers are a sight to behold. Lined with the names of every victim of the attacks, they're a striking reminder of the scale of the tragedy, while roses (a single rose is placed on the name of every victim on the day of their birthday) humanize the great memorial.
Your guide will lead you around the World Trade Center Memorial adding a more personal side to the sites as you pass them. Visit the Fireman's Memorial to learn of the heroic men and women who worked around the clock; many of them sacrificing themselves to save hundreds of lives. At the Survivor Tree you'll hear how after surviving the attack, the tree was weaned back to health by New Yorkers, becoming a symbol for their own recovery and resilience.
For many visitors the 9/11 Memorial is a daunting visit; the size and gravity so momentous that the reality is almost unfathomable. Traveling with an expert local tour guide in small groups, your experience will be more personal and insightful. Through their stories and anecdotes your guide will help you come to terms with the sites you visit, pointing out details and taking you to sites you may not have visited on your own.
End on a high with a visit to the One World Observatory which offers not just a breathtaking 360-degree view over NYC; but a full 360-degree experience too; with video commentary about the builders who created the tower and details of the structure itself.
With pre-reserved entrance, your visit is guaranteed, regardless of the crowds. Enter One World Trade Center and hop onboard one of the Sky Pods - incredible elevators that shoot from the first floor to 102nd in just 43 seconds. As you ascend the pods light up with LED technology, animating the changing skyline of New York from the 1600s to present day, and the program even changes depending on the time of day you visit.
Having explored the tragedy and loss of 9/11 at ground level, you'll end your tour on a high. Step out of the Sky Pod and into a circular room with floor to ceiling windows for the most spectacular 360-degree views New York has ever seen. Enjoy an independent visit at your leisure, staying for as long as you like to soak up the views.

New York in 36 hours | Cinematic travel | Canon T6i x iPhone X
Welcome back to my channel guys! In this video I will show my 36 hours visit to NYC with my 4 friends during the Christmas break. On the first day, we spent about 10 hours at midtown Manhattan exploring Central park, Times square, Grand terminal, Rockefeller center Christmas tree and viewing NYC skyline from the top of the rock during the sunset. Top of the rock offers the best sunset view of the city and the ticket ($38 US for an adult + $10 for sunset) is definitely worth paying every dollar. But make sure you book the ticket online an hour before the sunset time since it can take about 15-20 minutes to get to the top from the admission time. Also, it was jam packed during the time I visited and it was hard to take any picture without people in it. We grabbed our evening snacks at Los Tacos No.1 and then dinner at little Italy Pizza. They were both amazing places and offered delicious food. We parked on the 62nd and 3rd avenue for $30 until midnight. The prices can be extremely high as it gets closer to Times square. I used ‘spotHero’ app to look for a cheap parking. However, I did not book any of the spots earlier. We booked a stay at Crown heights with Airbnb since hotels at Manhattan can be really expensive as well. It’s easy to commute back to Manhattan with the Subway line with very little walk.
On the second day, we had a really nice stroll on the bridge, and it was magnificent. Don’t expect to take nice portraits of you on the bridge if you don’t arrive early for sunrise as it can get crowded later in the day. But there are tons of great picture opportunities of Manhattan skyline. Our next stop for the day was ‘The vessel’ and the High Line. We took the subway from High Street-Brooklyn Bridge Station to 34 Penn- Street Station which costs $2.75. I would recommend booking the tickets for the vessel online for free (can book up to 14 days early). I did not book the ticket ahead and was disappointed that the time slot I wanted to visit were all sold out. So, book it ahead if you don’t want to spend $10 for the vessel admission. But you can still take pictures of the amazing architecture from outside. Within 1 minute of walking distance, you can take the stairs to the high Line. It also offers nice photo opportunity at different spots. Our next stop was China town which we walked from Canal street station after taking the subway back from 34 Penn street. It offers variety of Asian restaurants, souvenir stores and market selling all kind of products. We were able to negotiate and buy some souvenirs for cheaper price. We had our lunch at Ajisen Ramen. Most of the places only accept cash around this area and there can be a bit of waiting time for the restaurants. From there we walked to 9/11 memorial passing the oculus which looks like a fancy alien ship. Then we walked to Staten Island Ferry passing the stock exchange and the charging bull. The ferry ride is about 45 minutes back and forth and offer a closer view of Statue of Liberty. The ride is absolutely free, but make sure to run quickly to the other side to catch the ferry back to Manhattan if you don’t want to wait for another 15 minutes for the next ferry. The second day adventures took us about 10 hours and 15km of walking.
PS: This is my first time in NYC and I am no expert in giving a complete guide on how to travel to NYC. I am only sharing my personal experience and things I have learned from fellow YouTubers. Trying to see everything in such a short amount of time can be bit overwhelming since the city has a lot to offer. I am sure I have missed a lot of good places which I can visit next time. Wear comfortable shoes and warm clothes during the winter since there’s a lot of walking.

Cities - The Real New York 1 of 2 - BBC Travel Documentary
Cities - The Real New York 1 of 2 - BBC Travel Documentary, recorded 23.10.2010
This Saturday sees the third episode of BBC World's five-part travel series, The Real... , this time visiting New York. The Real... New York takes a unique look at the Big Apple, taking viewers behind the more familiar scenes of the city to find the hidden highlights that the guide books don't show you.
The Real... New York, sponsored by InterContinental Hotels & Resorts, transmits on Saturday 1 December at 1230 GMT, and is repeated on Sunday 2 December at 1030, 1730 and Monday 3 December 0230 GMT.
Our guides to New York are three of the city's most famous residents, who give a uniquely personal tour of their home city. The contributors include:
ALEK WEK, Supermodel and author
Born in southern Sudan, Alek Wek fled the war-ravaged country to become a refugee in London, where she was spotted by a model scout while still in her teens. Alek has combined her successful modelling career with charity work, including work on the U.S. Committee for Refugees and AIDS awareness, and written a book about her life experiences. She has also created her own handbag range - Alek Wek 1933.
Alek begins our tour in Brooklyn, close to where she lives. The area boasts an eclectic mix of shops, her favourite being Layla Boutique. Inside the shop Alek rummages through the clothes, scented oils and towels, enjoying the vibrant mix of colours, fragrances and designs. While browsing the clothes rails she even shares with us some fashion tricks of the trade when it comes to mixing and matching clothing.
Alek then takes us to visit Brooklyn Bridge Park, as she so often does at the weekend. The bustling park is enjoyed by locals, children at play, photographers and theatrical performers alike, all there to enjoy a little slice of nature in the middle of the urban jungle.
We then visit Hue-Man Bookstore in Harlem, a favourite store of Alek's and the location of her first book signing. The store offers a wide variety of literature, as well as a laid back coffee shop, and a parade of interesting customers, many of whom stop Alek to say hello and remark on how inspirational she is to young women.
MADHUR JAFFREY, Television chef, actress and author
Madhur Jaffrey is a TV presenter, actress and writer, perhaps best know for her Indian and other Asian cookery programmes on BBC Television.
Madhur takes us to Chinatown on a tour of her favourite food shops, where she buys the ingredients for use in all of her Asian dishes. She guides us around the array of fresh produce, suggesting recipes as she goes, giving us a glimpse of her famous culinary skills. Then she takes us on an extended tour of the tiny back streets and byways of Chinatown; we are right in the heart of Manhattan, but feeling as if we are in Asia.
Madhur then shares with us one of her favourite places to eat in Chinatown, Wanton Garden. The restaurant offers a huge range of delicious noodles and toppings, all presented with authenticity and skill. Madhur orders a take-away lunch for herself and her husband and then jumps in a taxi before it has time to go cold.
SPENCER TUNICK, Artist
Spencer Tunick is an American installation artist who documents his works using photography and video. He is best known for his installations that feature large numbers of nude people posed in artistic formations, with the largest gathering to date taking place in Mexico City's main square, which featured more than 18,000 people .
Spencer first takes us to Printed Matter, a bookshop in Chelsea that he visits when looking for presents for his friends, family and himself. The shop sells limited edition books and artwork, making it a perfect place to find something unique. Spencer then takes us round the corner to The New York Book Art Fair, an annual fair of contemporary art books, catalogues and magazines, and is a fair unique to New York.
As the sun fades over the city that never sleeps, we emerge from the fair and head for one of Spencer's favourite bars, Max Fish, on the Lower East Side. The walls around Max Fish are covered in art, as it is a place where emerging artists can display their work. Wall space is given over to some fantastic graffiti, and the pinball machine, pool table and jukebox all add to the atmosphere. When Spencer first started out as an artist he used to go to Max Fish to hand out prints to people to encourage them to pose for his nude installations.

New York City Memorial Day Weekend 2013
This video and collection of still photos is a personal diary of an amazing weekend in New York City Memorial Day Weekend 2013. The video will show you the best New York City has to offer with a three day visit condensed to 30 minutes. We stayed at the Waldorf Astoria and used the Lexington Line to springboard north to the Metropolitan Museum of Art, south to The Battery and many stops in between. The highlight of the weekend was to see the play Lucky Guy starring Tom Hanks. To fill in the remaining time we visited Central Park, Times Square, The Theater District, Strawberry Fields, The Frick Collection, Wall Street, New York Stock Exchange, The Metropolitan Museum of Art, The Court District, City Hall Park, The Dakota, Little Italy, Chinatown, SOHO, Federal Hall National Memorial, Bowling Green, Surrogates Court, New York Stock Exchange, The Lik Gallery, from afar we saw the Brooklyn Bidge, The Statue of Liberty, Ellis Island and last but not least the 9/11 Memorial. This is an amazing space that gave me the goose bumps when I first looked into the South Pool with its 30 foot waterfalls and black stone void at the center. The visit will bring you back to the days of the attack, and compel you to once again pray for those that died pilots, passengers, office workers, police officers, firemen and the first responders. The solemn mood was broken for us while at the North Pool, a sudden wind developed and caused the water to curl up and out of the pool in a ten foot wave and got many of us wet. The comic relief this brought, gave a short break in the seriousness of the visit, and brought smiles and laughs, that almost felt guilty, but perhaps was a sign that life continues despite our tragedies. The new 1 World Trade Center at 1776 feet tall can be seen from most neighborhoods in New York City. I want to thank the musicians in Chinatown playing both traditional Chinese and classical music. Chinatown and Little Italy must be on your list of places to visit when in New York. The basic tour and locations can be found on the following link
Visiting 9/11 Sites: Memorial, Museum, Tours
Out-of-towners and locals alike have shown enormous interest in sites connected to the September 11th attacks. More than 700,000 people from all 50 states and 131 countries have been to the National September 11 Museum since it opened on May 21st. More have come from New York than any other state, but the museum also hosts so many international tourists that you can't even identify all the languages being spoken.
