Avignon Tourist Guide ???????? France Best Cities - Travel & Discover
The historic centre of Avignon, which includes the Palais des Papes, the cathedral, and the Pont d'Avignon, became a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1995. The medieval monuments and the annual Festival d'Avignon have helped to make the town a major centre for tourism.

I am just back from an amazing trip around Provence in the South of France, we rented a car and stayed in Cotignac, we then travelled to Valensole to see some lavender and Sunflower fields before exploring Gordes, Avignon, Aix en Provence and pretty French countryside. We got to explore some markets too.

Provence: Legendary Light, Wind, and Wine
Rick Steves' Europe Travel Guide | We climb Roman ruins in Nîmes, explore a papal palace in Avignon, and savor vivid views immortalized by van Gogh in Arles. Crossing acres of lavender and wispy vineyards, we explore the Côtes du Rhône and more wonders of the south of France.

PROVENCE, France - Beautiful LAVENDER FIELDS and FRENCH RIVIERA (Avignon, Nice, Monaco)
After an incredible Italy-Croatia trip, my friend and I have decided to embark on a short South of France trip. Ever since I saw pictures of the beautiful French lavender fields, I have always wanted to travel to South of France and this summer was my opportunity. We did arrive in mid-June, so most fields have not bloomed yet, but its beauty can still be felt (fields usually bloom end-June to early-July). Southern France has so many little cute towns such as the little towns of Gordes and Isle sur la Sorgue. And of course, the iconic French Riviera, also known as the Cote d'Azur with its milky blue water and beaches. Nice is a city that truly has it all. Right next to all of this is the little city state of Monaco that boasts some of the most luxurious attractions on Earth. All in all, I love France.

ROADTRIP around the SOUTH OF FRANCE - Avignon | Pont Du Gard | Garrigues-Sainte-Elulalie | Uzes
Oh the South of France! With its charming sleepy villages, cobble stoned alleys and delectable markets. There’s a certain “je ne sais quoi” about the Provencal Region that makes me want to go back for more.
We stayed in the quaint village of Garrigues-Saint-Elulalie and ventured out on day trips to Uzes, Avignon and the Pont Du Gard. Stay tuned to learn more about this beautiful region.

Avignon - A Day Trip from Paris by TGV Train
In October 2014 I took a round rail trip to Avignon from Paris Gare de Lyon station. I took the 0711 direct service to Avignon, and returned in Paris by 9pm.
Avignon is a beautiful interesting city to visit as one of the major cities in the Provence, South of France. Historically, Avignon was the centre of the Christian world (Like the present Rome), with the Palais Des Papes pay homeage for 9 Popes. It is the major tourist attraction for the city, apart from the famous bridge Pont d'Avignon of St Benezet. The weather was the typical very windy day and firtunately, it was also sunny.

Avignon in Provence, France
Home to nine popes during the 14th century and one of the most beautiful cities in France today, Avignon is a treasure house of palaces, museums and meandering lanes, surrounded by an old fortified wall that still protects it from modernization. This city in the heart of beautiful Provence lays claim to dozens of historic monuments, especially the great Palace of the Popes which was gradually enlarged into an imposing fortification during the 60-year papal residency and is now a museum open to the public.
Stroll over to Rue Joseph Vernet, perhaps the prettiest street in town, lined with lovely shops, galleries and restaurants. Detour a few blocks up and down Rue St. Agricol, which offers a similar environment of pleasant shops and leads to the main square of town, Place de lHorloge.
Continue with a stroll along the main street of Avignon, Rue de la République, which extends through the center from the train station nearly to the Popes Palace in a straight line about a mile long. Look for one of the most picturesque streets in town, Rue des Teinturiers, the street of the tinters. Several ancient water wheels along this cobbled lane are still turning, pushed along by a quaint little, tree-lined canal. The wheels were once used to provide power for the manufacturing and dyeing of textiles. Now this is a trendy street, with cafes, boutiques and a small theater, a mere ten-minute walk from the town center.

Travel Vlog #5 - Provence - France
The tremendous beauty of the Provence region in France during Lavender season is just insane.
Provence Vacation Travel Video Guide
Travel video about destination Provence.
Marseille is the oldest city in France, the country’s largest commercial harbour and the capital of Provence, an enchanting region full of contrast. The most impressive religious building in Marseille is a fortified monastery church that dates back to the fifth century, the mighty Abbaye Saint Victor. Deep down in the rock is an Early Christian crypt and a number of stone sarcophaguses that contain the remains of various holy martyrs that date back to the Roman persecution of the Christians. Aix-En-Provence, along with its numerous lanes, is one of the most beautiful cities in France. More than forty spectacular fountains help to cool down this ancient town in the hot months of summer when both foreign and French tourists visit the city. ‘Sur Le Pont D’Avignon’ are the words of the world famous French song that is familiar to both young and old alike. It is a song of dance on the bridge of the Pont Saint Bénézet but it is more likely that the people here once danced under the bridge as that is the location of its bars! For almost two thousand years an imposing Roman amphitheatre has dominated the city of Nîmes. It is the capital of the Departement Gard that is situated on the periphery of Provence. One of the most well preserved mediaeval fortifications in Europe surrounds the small town of Aigues-Mortes along the western periphery of the Camargue in the south of France. The town was established in 1240. From the city wall that is eleven metres high and six metres thick, there is a wonderful view across the rooftops of the impregnable city. With historic towns in which both the Romans and the Papacy felt at home, and with blossoming fields of lavender and ancient mountain villages, Provence is a land of sweet aromas and radiant light.
