9. SOUNDBITE (Czech) Vladislav Sobol, Spokesman for CEZ Power Company:
Earlier it was discussed whether it is proper to build such a structure, power plant, in the middle of the Jeseniky Mountains, whether it would or not interfere with the ecosystem. But time has shown that the power plant really fits in and that the local order of things of things wasn't disturbed. And that the symbiosis between the Jeseniky Mountains and the tourists that are attracted by the power plant really works. So when they come here they continue on into the mountains.

About Dlouhe Strane there are two unique things, one is the possibility of visiting the underground where people can watch the making of power, the turbines and other machinery. The other unique thing is the possibility of taking a bus or chairlift up to the upper reservoir which is located 1350 metres above sea level. So they can experience the unrepeatable experiences that people have when they see such a huge surface of water in the surrounding of such mountains.

23. SOUNDBITE (Czech) Jiri Sveda, Senior Engineer Dlouhe Strane Hydroplant:
Now not only do we use the night pumping of the water (to fill the reservoir) of course we also pump the water up during the day. But because ecological energy sources such as the photovoltaic and wind farms can unexpectedly create surpluses of power and then we use the hydroelectric plant to burn off some of that excess by using it to pump the water to the upper reservoir. So the whole thing works very efficiently in the grid.

I think it is interesting and it does belong to Jeseniky. In a way, people have become so used to it that they can't imagine that it could not be here. It attracts a lot of people to look at the upper reservoir.
