QUT Creative Industries Research - The Cube: ECOS
Find out more at
ECOS is a playful data dramatisation that allows users to see how green buildings behave in different climates. Displayed as a touch screen installation within QUT's The Cube, the research system simulates some of the complexities behind green building projects.
QUT Creative Industries researcher and ECOS principal designer Deb Polson worked with interface developer Cassie Selin and system designer Dave Wallace to help people understand how everyday energy can impact people.
ECOS incorporates live weather data into an interactive illustration and places a fictional green building into different climates, allowing users to play with the parameters of the buildings and observe the results and the possible impacts on people.
The research project promotes behavioural change by demonstrating the factors that influence sustainable energy consumption and generation.

The first ever digital writing residency funded by the Australia Council for the Arts launched at QUT's The Cube with a project that challenges our perceptions about robots. Robot University prepares us for a time when humans will live and work alongside each other. The public can use touchscreens to interact with three machines, all with their own personalities, histories and occupations. Creator Christy Dena hopes that the more a person interacts with the trio of robots the more empathy they will feel for them.
