Olympic peninsula, Washington, USA: Lake Quinault and rainforest
The Olympic peninsula is located at the north west of Washington State. It is famous for the temperate rainforests covered by moss and the beautiful beaches at the Pacific coast. This video shows the rainforest near the Quinault Lake and the Quinault Lodge. Then it shows the South Beach and the Kalaloch lodge.
Hoh Rainforest, Olympic National Park, Washington
The Hoh Rainforest is one of the rainiest places in the United States, it is a beautiful, tranquil place that I could return to over and over again.

Olympic National Park: Hoh Rainforest
The Hoh Rainforest, located in Olympic National Park, Washington.
Throughout the winter season, rain falls frequently in the Hoh Rain Forest, contributing to the yearly total of 140 to 170 inches (or 12 to 14 feet!) of precipitation each year. The result is a lush, green canopy of both coniferous and deciduous species. Mosses and ferns that blanket the surfaces add another dimension to the enchantment of the rainforest.
The Hoh Rain Forest is located in the stretch of the Pacific Northwest rainforest which once spanned the Pacific coast from southeastern Alaska to the central coast of California. The Hoh is one of the finest remaining examples of temperate rainforest in the United States and is one of the park's most popular destinations.
The Hoh lies on the west side of Olympic National Park, about a two-hour drive from Port Angeles and under an hour from Forks. The Hoh Rain Forest is accessed by the Upper Hoh Road, off of Highway 101.
Filmed in August of 2014 with a Canon T4i (650D).
Bicycling Deep into the Quinault Rain Forest in Washington
This was a very tiring venture. I covered about 20 miles up and down a road, which turned into a dirt road. This part of the road is paved, but is distant from any major towns. You can see how some of the back country folks live a little by the appearance of their living conditions.
There are ominous mountains in the background which can captivate anyones attention, especially mine. They are amazing to look at. They affect the rain fall quite a bit because they are so immense. It felt very clean and wet out in this area.
Deer Lake Trail - Olympic National Park - Washington State - United States
Here are highlights of the Deer Lake Trail in Olympic National Park in Washington State. From the Sol Duc trailhead at the north side of the park, the trail climbs 1,640 feet in elevation as it follows the Sol Duc River and Canyon Creek. This trail has many wonderful waterfalls including the iconic, three prong Sol Duc Falls. After 3.4 miles one arrives at beautiful Deer Lake in a wooded basin in the transition zone from montane to subalpine forest. Deer lake is at an altitude of 3,522 feet.
For this backpacking trip I was joined by my brother, Bill O'Leary and his future spouse, Laura Covington.
The trip was enjoyable and truly memorable.

Kalaloch Campground, Olympic National Park, Washington State Coast
Kalaloch Campground is a popular campground on the Washington coast on highway 101, north of the Quinault Reservation. Kalaloch is a large campground with many sections, a great beach area, nearby store, and a couple of interesting short trails.
It is an amazing place to explore the beach and watch the sun set. Parts of the campground are open year round.
This video shows you what the campground looks like during low season when few people are camping.
Exploring the Olympic Peninsula
Teresa and I drive around the HWY 101 loop. We day hike to cape flattery and Ozette triangle Ruby beach and Hoh rain forest.

BANDIT:
Bandit is a 2 year old rescue dog saved from a kill shelter in California. He was horribly matted, dirty and looked like a Terrier/Shih Tzu mix. After he was groomed it became clear he is a purebred Parti Poodle. A fairly unusual dog, a Parti Poodle has a unique coloration only possible when both parents are purebred Parti Poodles. The gene necessary to produce the coloration is recessive and both parents must have it. I would have loved him either way but am blessed to have him as he is. =8v)
