Smoky Mountains White Water Rafting! | Smoky Mountain Outdoors
Whitewater Rafting on the Pigeon River in the Great Smoky Mountains!
Located near Gatlinburg, TN, the Pigeon River is the 3rd most popular whitewater rafting destination in the United States!
We booked our adventure with Smoky Mountain Outdoors and had an awesome experience! Our guide was experienced and the rapids were tough, but not too difficult that a 1st timer (like ourselves) can't conquer.
This video shows the Upper (or the Big) Pigeon River, which offered an exciting 6.5 mile raft trip down class 3 and 4 rapids through the heart of the Smoky Mountains.

White Water Rafting (my trip to Gatlinburg Tennessee part 2)
The white water rafting was a blast. The tour was 80 bucks, which I think was the cheapest quote we got on it. Most of them run about 100 dollars. I'd highly recommend doing this if you go to Gatlinburg or Pigeon Forge, but do keep in mind it's a physical activity.
In a larger party it would of been easier, but with just me and my wife paddling and carrying the boat we were pretty wore out by the time it was over.
If you do this also do not trust google maps as they will lead you to the office instead of where the tour is actually at so when looking on gps the tour will actually be 45 minutes away from Gatlinburg and not in the city itself.

Upper Section Whitewater Adventure
Trips on this section launch at the TN/NC state line, surrounded by views of the mountains as well as the hydroelectric powerhouse feeding water into the river. And it doesn't take long to get into the whitewater. Within minutes of the put-in, guests find themselves paddling into their first Class III rapid of the day; the aptly named Powerhouse. With the help of an experienced guide, your group will continue through a total of 10 Class III rapids and 3 Class IV rapids, before finishing the trip back at our outpost. With rapid names like Lost Guide, Double-Reactionary, and Snapdragon, guests can expect plenty of excitement on this trip. But don't worry, there will still be time between the rapids to take in the views, soak up some sun and have a swim. This is the ideal trip for those wanting to enhance the beauty of the Smokies with the thrill of whitewater rafting.
Abrams Creek (TN)
**Wood in Abrams Falls. Will go into more detail below**
My 100th river! Abrams Creek near Cade's Cove in the western Smokies. One of the more remote and serene runs in the park; 10 miles of kayaking with sparse trail service. Solid medium flow after well over 2 inches of rain in 18hrs.
Barring Jack's Creek, this is one of the longest shuttles in the Southeast at 1hr 20min without tourist traffic. Most of the run is moving flatwater up through Class 2/3, but there are some surprisingly fun rapids in there especially at this flow, especially Sidewinder.
The bad news...wood in the falls. Large log cutting across from river right, blocking the last large eddy above and sticking left across the lip, with another log blocking the left entrance. This flow creates a stoutass, possibly terminal hole as is, and the wood only exacerbates that. We walked, but the falls was 90% of our reason for going, so the decision wasn't taken lightly.
As far as flow, there was solid, moving flow at the take-out ( Was absolutely awesome for everything except the falls. I imagine a good flow for the falls results in a less exciting paddle out. Pick your poison.

Middle Prong Little Pigeon Kayaking - Ramsey to Greenbrier - Sevierville, TN
Ramsey Creek, which flows into Greenbrier, is a good Class IV-V, rocky creek. The difficulty wasn't quite Class V at this flow, but the pin potential and tight lines made it somewhat difficult, as you can see in some of my lines.
It was our group's first time down (Diane had done the run a long time ago at a different flow), and while low, the run was surprisingly clean, requiring only two portages, one for wood and one for an unclean line with an easy walk.
I'd run this section again for sure, but with higher flows - at this level it was just a bit too rocky.
