Welcome to Cha-am, Thailand (part 1)
An overview of Cha-am, a seaside resort 175 km south of Bangkok. We will take you from the train station to the beachfront, where you can choose to relax, enjoy a swim or ride the infamous banana boat. Then we'll head to the harbour and eat some delicious seafood. Back to the beach for some fresh fruits, and then a stroll at night in the market.

Cha-Am Night Market, Every Wednesday Night - a Must Do!
Whether you are a foodie or not, and I'm not, the Cha-Am Night Market is really a cool place to go. The more time we spend in Cha-Am the more I like it. I LOVE the fact that its a sleepy city by the beach that is also closer to a busier city (Hua Hin) and closer to a globally known city of commerce: Bangkok.
Cha-Am has A LOT going for it. AND to add to my list of why I love Cha-Am is one more item: The Cha-Am night Market.
The *only* think I don't like about the Cha-Am night market? It only happens once a week :-(
Hardly a deal breaker!
Every Wednesday evening starting about 4pm at the end of Narathip Road, just before you get to the Cha-Am Railway station, you blessed with the sights and sounds of what a local Thai Night market is. There is food... GREAT FOOD! and clothes and electronics and make-up and even some little pets like small puppies and fish. Its hardly the size of Chatuchak in Bangkok but I like it more!
So, on this Wednesday we got there about 4:30pm and walked around, eating as we stocked up on munchies as well, until about 6pm when we took the motorbike home.
I discovered that by the time we were leaving parking was non existent and our parking right up front got taken about 3 seconds after I was motioning towards the bike.
Its a really cool experience - Highly recommended.

Hua Hin Night Market - Foodie Fun in Thailand - the Land of Smiles :-)
Gracie grabbed our backpacks and a few days worth of clothes and I took the train from Cha-Am down to Hua Hin (only 6 Baht per person!) one afternoon and decided to stay over for 1 night.
While the Cha-Am Night market is AWESOME, its only once a week on Wednesdays.
This particular Hua Hin Night Market is *every night* and there are actually a few in Hua Hin.
Still, we like Cha-Am a LOT more - its super quiet with a LOT less Farang so I prefer it.
So, this evening we walk over from our hotel and sample some of the food and have a look around.

The town or Cha-Am, Thailand has a night market every Wednesday. I took footage of most of the market but some of the video got corrupted. This is just the first 15% of the market, some food stalls. You can also get clothes, shoes, electronics, household goods and many other things.

Maeklong Railway Market is certainly unique. The market is a day trip from Bangkok and definitely worth a visit.
When the train comes through, the market vendors leap into action to roll back their awnings and push their stalls out of the way of the oncoming train.
As soon as the train passes, the stalls are pushed back into place and it’s business as usual.
Here’s a tip. Maeklong Railway Market can get pretty crowded so if you want a good vantage point of the train, grab a seat in one of the local cafes and order a coffee or tea while you wait.

Train Trip to Hua Hin (part 1) from Cha-Am on the Ordinary Train
Gracie and I decided to take the train from Cha-Am down to Hua Hin this morning. Unlike in the past when we have gone to Hua Hin for running errands and such things, only going for a few hours, we would take a mini van. This trip will involve a few new experiences.
First, we plan on staying overnight.
Second, we will be taking the train. This part I'm really psyched for!!
The State Railway of Thailand or SRT system, I pleasantly learned, is a pretty mature system. It's not brand new nor amazingly shiny like you'd experience in China's Mega Cities or that of Japan however, I felt quite safe and the cost, or more accurately, the VALUE, is exceptional.
So for part one, join us on the beginning of our journey and our ~30 minute ride south.
