Raja Dinkar Kelkar Museum
Dr Dinkar Gangadhar Kelkar, a man so passionate with cultures and travel that his ardour led him to many wonderful journeys. He was an optician by profession and probably that gave him the eyes to pick the extraordinary from the ordinary items used by us in our day to day lives. He was one of the pioneers of the museum movement in India.
The three storied museum, though ordinarily placed among the other city constructions is divided into two blocks and showcases a matchless compilation. The collection contains things that were used by people during their ordinary routine lives. The museum showcases the famous Mastani Mahal replica, collected from the ruins of the Mastani Mahal. My favourites were the section dedicated to the musical instruments and textiles, collected from various lands.

The collection was started around 1920 and by 1960 it contained around 15,000 objects. In 1962, Dr Kelkar handed his collection to the Department of Archaeology within the Government of Maharashtra.
The museum now holds over 20,000 objects of which 2,500 are on display. These consist of mainly Indian decorative items from everyday life and other art objects, mostly from the 18th and 19th centuries. The museum's collection depicts the skills of the Indian artists of the time. The door frames, vessels, ornaments, musical instruments, paintings and carvings represent outstanding examples of their art.
One part of particular interest is the Mastani Mahal. Raja Kelkar made a attempt at depicting the palace of Mastani, (wife of the Peshwa Baji Rao I) with its remnants. A beautiful piece in the collection is the carving of lord Ganesha on the seed; the idol of lord Ganesha is shown with his trunk towards the left, which is quite rare and difficult to build or draw.

मंडळी, आता तुम्ही पाहत आहेत - राजा दिनकर केळकर संग्रहालय आणि मेन प्रवेशद्वारातुन आत आल्यावर अश्या प्रकारच्या असंख्य कलाकृती येथे पाहायला मिळतील.
राजा दिनकर केळकर संग्रहालय हे पुणे शहरातील एक प्रसिद्ध वस्तुसंग्रहालय असून सन. १८९६ ते १९९० पुण्यभूषण पद्मश्री डॉ. दिनकर गंगाधर केळकर उर्फ कवी अज्ञातवासी या गृहस्थाने उभारले. या संग्रहालयाची सुरवात सन १९२० मध्ये झाली. संग्रहालयाला दिनकर केळकर यांच्या राजा नावाच्या अल्पावयात मृत्यू पावलेल्या मुलाचे नाव दिले आहे.
आपले पिढीजात चष्म्याचे दुकान चालवताना दिनकर केळकरांना जुन्या सरदार घराण्यातील वैशिष्ट्यपूर्ण वस्तू जमवण्याचा छंद जडला. अगदी फुंकणीपासून ते अत्तरदाणीपर्यंत त्यांनी रोजच्या वापरातील नाना चीजा जमा केल्या.
त्यामध्ये - विविध प्रकारचे दिवे, अडकित्ते, गंजीफा, सोंगट्या, शस्त्रे, पानदाने, पेटारे, दरवाजे, मूर्ती, कात्र्या, कळसूत्री बाहुल्या अशा अनेक गोष्टीनी केळकरांचा खजिना समृद्ध आणि संपन्न आहे.
आणि कोथरूड येथून बाजीराव पेशव्यांच्या मस्तानीचा महाल उचलून, संग्रहालयात हुबेहूब तसा उभा केला.

१९२२ साली एका खोलीत सुरू झालेले हे संग्रहालय, वाड्याच्या साऱ्या दालनांतून वाढवले गेले.
