Tapovan is popular for its prominence in the epic Ramayan.
It is believed that Laxman had cut Surpanakha's nose at this place which is how the city got its name Nashik.
It is also believed that Tapovan was the place from where Sita was abducted by Ravan.
Tapovan literally means precincts reserved for meditation and penance. There is such a precinct for penance ahead of Panchavati and hence was named Tapovan. The sages used to meditate in close proximity with the lush green nature.
A cavernous fissure on boulders along the riverbed is called Brahma Yoni. Very close by, is the Kapil Tirth. On the right bank of Godavari, there are eleven rocky cavernous spaces where rishi-munis must have been retreating for sacraments.

Place where lord laxman cuts shurpankha's nose | Tapovan | Nashik | Shilas Tour India
This is the place where lord Laxman cuts shurpankha's nose.
Once a part of the holy Dandakaranya forest, Tapovan is a pictorial spot and has a close association with the epic Ramayana. Besieged in lush greenery, Tapovan presents a tranquil ambience. This place was once used by great sages for meditation. The well maintained place also has sculptures of Ram, Lakshman and Sita standing in a boat which is a tourist attraction in the city. A cavernous fissure on boulders along the riverbed is called Brahma Yoni. Very close by, is the Kapil Tirth. On the right bank of Godavari, there are eleven rocky cavernous spaces where rishi-munis must have been retreating for sacraments. There are temples of Gopalkrishna and Lakshmi-Narayan and the famous Goshala (cow-shed) was built here in 1904. In ancient time, this land was made sacred by the touch of Lord Rama’s feet.

Holy Places : Panchvati, Nashik
Panchvati is a place of religious significance and a pilgrimage spot, near the city of Nashik in Maharashtra, western India. In Hindu mythology and epic Ramayana, Panchavati was the place in the forest of Dandakaranya, where Rama built his home along with his wife Sita and brother Lakshman during their exile period. It has been proposed to identify it with the modern Nasik, because Lakshmana cut off Surpanakha's nose at Panchavati.
In Panchavati today, there are five trees marked, one of which is an Ashoka tree. There is also a cave here called Sita Gupha. Sita, Ram and Lakshman prayed here to Lord Shiva. The ancient Shivalinga still exists in the small temple in the cave and is visited by devotees.
According to Hindu legends and Ramayana Rama, along with his wife Sita and brother Lakshmana, stayed in Panchavati during their Vanvasa period. The Laxman Rekha is located in Panchavati about a kilometre away from Sita Gupha. It was from here that Ravana abducted Goddess Sita. Today this area is a major pilgrimage and tourist attraction.
Panchvati has many temples like Kalaram Temple, Goraram Temple, Sita Gumpha. There are also many temples in Tapovan which is very close to Panchvati. Its people are proud of its culture and its five thousand year old tradition.
On auspicious occasions like Mahashivratri, Rangapanchami, Makar Sankranti people take baths in river Godavari at Ramkund which is considered to be one of the most important places in Indian theology. According to Hindu theology, it is believed to be the place where a few drops of 'amrut' fell while the kalash was carried to the devatas. There are other holly places like Ramkunda, Muktidham temple, Pandavleni caves and Trimbakeshwar.

Kalaram Temple, Panchavati - Nashik
The Kalaram temple is located in Panchavati - Nashik and is an architectural grandeur, with the motif, pretty much analogous to that of the Trimbakeshwar Temple. Built during the Peshwas rule, this 70 feet high structure was constructed with black stone extracted from the mine of Ramshej Hill. . The temple derives its name from the statue of Lord Rama that is black in colour. The literal translation of Kalaram means black Rama. The sanctum sanctorum also houses the statues of goddess Sita and Lakshman. Thousands of devotees visit it every day. The temple was funded by Sardar Rangarao Odhekar. It was built around in 1792. It was said that Sardar Odhekar had a dream that the statue of Rama in black colour is there in the river Godavari. Odhekar took the statues from river and built the temple. The place where statues were found was named as Ramkund. The main entrance of the temple has Lord Hanuman idol (Sharminda Hanuman) which is black. Gyrating this temple, are various small temples dedicated to Lord Vitthala, Lord Ganesha and Hanuman. There is mention of visiting the temple by Chakradhar Swami, Saint Eknath Maharaj, Shri Samartha Ramdas Swami & Great Shri Gajanan Maharaj came to the temple and got to see Lord Ram himself. The temple formed a pivotal role in Dalit movement in India. The famous Dr. Ambedkar once held a protest outside the temple for allowance of Dalits into the temple.

ये है प्राचीन किष्किंधा नगरी..जहां पहली बार मिले थे हनुमान और राम जी.//kishkinda hanuman temple
Kishkindha (Kannada: ಕಿಷ್ಕಿಂಧೆ Kiṣkindhe; IAST: Kiṣkindhā, Devanagari: किष्किन्धा) is the monkey (Vanara) kingdom of the Vanara King Sugriva, The younger brother of Vali, in the Indian theology of Ramayana times. This was the kingdom where he ruled with the assistance of his friend, Hanuman.
This kingdom is identified to be the regions around the Tungabhadra river (then known as Pampa Saras) near Hampi and belongs to Koppal district, Karnataka. The mountain near to the river with the name Rishimukha where Sugriva lived with Hanuman, during the period of his exile also is found with the same name.
During the time of Ramayana, i.e., Treta Yuga, the whole region was within the dense forest called Dandaka Forest extending from Vindhya range to the South Indian peninsula. Hence this kingdom was considered to be the kingdom of Vanaras which in Sanskrit means apes or forest-humans(Van+Nar). During Dwapara Yuga, the Pandava Sahadeva was said to visit this kingdom, as per the epic Mahabharata, during his southern military campaign to collect tribute for Yudhishthira's Rajasuya sacrifice

It is 450 feet long and is situated at a height of 70 feet from the river. As per mythological tales, once Lakshman, the younger brother of Lord Rama, crossed river Ganga at the same site where the bridge now stands. At that time, there was only a suspension bridge, made of jute.

Ram Laxman
'Ram Laxman' is the story of two friends who are inseparable. Ram (Kamal Haasan) and his pet elephant Laxman have grown up together and are very emotionally attached to one another. They share such a strong bond that Ram refuses to marry his sweetheart Meena (Sripriya) when her father refuses to sanction thier marriage unless Ram leaves Laxman. Meanwhile, in a very cunningly planned plot, an employee of Meena's father kills him and implicates Ram and Laxman for the murder. How the two friends stand by each other in the hour of need and how they prove themselves innocent forms the rest of the plot.

Nasik - The Pilgrimage City नासिक दर्शन - A Visit To Nasik - Maharastra India.
Nasik the Pilgrimage City in Maharashtra State - India, Is situated at 180 km From Mumbai.
Nasik has significant religious attributes for Hindus with a temple complex on the bend of the Godavari river, which includes Kalaram Temple. It is a pilgrimage site, with the Kumbh Mela, the largest peaceful gathering in the world – involving over 10 crore people in 2013, taking place here once every 12 years in rotation with Haridwar, Allahabad, and Ujjain.
Nasik was the name of a section in the huge forest of Dandakaranya, where Rama with the help of his brother Lakshmana built a nice hut they could call a home in what would eventually become the crucial part of their exile in the wilderness. There is a place called Tapovan where Lakshmana, the brother of Rama, cut off the nose of Surpanakha, the sister of Ravana, when she attempted to kill Sita. The entire Aranya Kanda (book of the forest) of Ramayana is set in Nasik.

The shoot schedule for Panchavati part started from Ramtek, Nagpur, Maharashtra and ended at Taked, Nashik, Maharashtra. It is attempted to follow almost the same route Shri Ram is believed to have traveled as documented in various versions of Ramayana in the Aranya Kaand events. Also there are several memorials, like Sita Madhi, Sage Ashram, Shiva Temple or Ram-Sita temple, believed by locals that Sri Ram, Lakshman and Sita passed through or halted, on the assumed route in Maharashtra between Nagpur and Nasik. They were not covered because of repetitive nature.
