We start our travel from Colombo at 3.30am.
It takes approximately 5 hours to reach hasalaka village.
villagers in this rathna ella area wormly welcomed us and they give some traditional foods also.
Rathna ella village is very culm and beautiful village.. the main occupation of the villagers in rathna ella is paddy cultivation. But there are lots of self employees becouese of this rathna ella.
So guys if you go to this rathna ella oneday don't forget to buy something from this villagers also.
The people in this area is very friendly
If you want a guide to reach this fall they will give one villager for your trip definitely .
There is 3kM walking distance to Rathna alla..but It is really beautiful and interesting walk... I promised you will never fedup with walk in this area.
There is a ancient, historcal background also in this area with regarding king ravana. .

Turn from Hasalaka and 1-hour walk through villages and forest to arrive the waterfall. An ideal walk for nature lovers. Narrow pathway and very narrow bridges without support found during the trek. Very Slippery and be extremely cautious especially during rainy season.

In the past, people built small anicuts to get water from Rathna Ella for their agricultural activities. Rathna Ella supplies enough water to assist 200 farmers to earn a living in paddy cultivation.

A hike to the Rathna Ella waterfall
Take on a hike that takes you through the lush forests of Mahiyangana to reach the Rathna Ella waterfall. The route is about 3.5 kilometres long but the destination is well worth the journey. The 101-meter waterfall is the highest in the Kandy region and one of the most beautiful waterfalls in Sri Lanka.

Raging Hasalaka Oya | හසලක ඔය @ Rathna Ella, Hasalaka (2018)
Hasalaka Oya originates from Dothalugala Mountain in Knuckles Forest off Deanston. This flows through villages off Udadumbara such as Kandegama, Kalugala, Thalagune, Dumbaragama, etc. until she reaches Hasalaka Tank. She then provides water to the famous Minipe Canal and then joins Mahaweli River close to Mahiyanganaya.
Hasalaka Oya creates some of the most beautiful waterfalls in Sri Lanka, notably Rathna aka Navarathna Ella, Kaluwa Wetunu Ella, Rathna Ella Upper and Lower Falls, etc. We once did trek along Hasalaka Oya from Kalugala where we saw many other waterfalls of Hasalaka Oya.
This is a video of Hasalaka Oya with so much of water during the rainy season captured on our visit to Rathna Ella and Kaluwa Wetunu Ella.

* Don’t light fires unnecessarily and do try to use portable cookers instead of using firewood when camping. If you must, only use firewood on the ground and don’t cut any trees for this.
* Don’t bring any plants back with you or cut any trees/branches unnecessarily..
* Don’t use soap/ shampoo when bathing in natural streams as they contaminate them and kill wildlife.
* Don’t do anything that harms the Mother Nature.
