Malpais De Güimar - A Vulcanic Natural Reserve ????
Hiking Malpais de Güimar, a natural reserve on Tenerife, created by lava from nearby vulcano. It's just next to the town Puertito de Güimar, so I thought today to show you around this malpais. I love being here alone. It has definitely a certain spiritual energy.
If you visit Tenerife, it's no mistake visiting malpais de Güimar for a bit!
Malpaís de Güímar or Badlands of Guimarconsist of a volcanic cone, subsidiary cones, and several basaltic lava flows in the Güímar municipality on the island of Tenerife, in the Canary Islands, Spain. They total in area about 290 hectares. The lava flows are quite recent, with the typical ʻaʻā type less than 10,000 years old. The large cone is called Montaña Grande (Big Mountain) and reaches a height of 276 m (906 ft).

The Pyramids of Güímar or Majanos of Chaconne are in the town of Guimar on the southeast coast of the island of Tenerife, in the archipelago of the Canary Islands in Spain. They are about 26 kilometers from the city of Santa Cruz de Tenerife. There are six buildings in the form of stepped pyramids astronomically oriented. The Pyramids of Güímar Ethnographic Park offers visitors a chance to contemplate these amazing constructions.
The pyramids or heaps of Güímar are framed historically in the nineteenth century, a period of economic exploitation in the Canary Islands for the cochineal, an insect parasite tunera or prickly pear of a dye greatly appreciated at that time is extracted still had not been introduced synthetic dyes. In 1991, Belmonte, Esteban and Aparicio, researchers at the Institute of Astrophysics of the Canary Islands, discovered that the main complex of the Pyramids of Güímar is astronomically oriented.
Güímar is a municipality in the province of Santa Cruz de Tenerife, on the island of Tenerife. Badajoz Canyon home demonstrations of natural pine forest and some pockets of laurel ; also it has an important collection of Retamar Izaña, at the top, within the call prepark del Teide. The municipality has several protected areas that reflect the different habitats, referring to the high mountains, the mediocrity and the coastal zone. So, it has surface of Teide National Park, the natural park of the Forest Crown.
The Natural Park of Forest Corona is the largest protected area in the Canary archipelago, located in the center of the island of Tenerife and space around the Teide National Park. Among Crown Forest and National Park has created an area of prepark affecting the municipality of Guimaras. According to chronicles, initially the island of Tenerife was a single policy or unit until kingdom was divided into nine. Among them, the most important being that of Taoro, which brought together the kingdoms of the north, and of Guimaras, which did the same with the South and had a greater extent than has the municipality.
Guimar include other tourist sites such as the Pyramids, The Archaeological Park and Religious Chinguaro, the Special Nature Reserve Badlands of Guimaras and El Barranco de Chamoco. The island is divided into two main areas: North and South; that is due more to climate than purely geographical criteria. The north is green and rainy while the south is arid and dry, providing more hours of sunshine a year.
The island life is no bargain, even though taxes are low or exempt in some cases, most things are imported or come from the peninsula, so prices increase enough, there are exceptions which still Prices are affordable in the case of fixed and mobile telephony, gasoline, electronics, the Alcohol, and catering (food). Clothing, food generally as staple foods are concerned, comes out pretty expensive shopping, although it depends on the whims of each.
We started walking in the Las Coloradas of Guimaras, intending to seek path that leads to the gallery on the Basin Canyon Sheep Corral Canyon or Basin. We started the walk, a pond on the left, following the track of El Reventón to leave by road with Tarjea within 200m. the start. We continue along this path until you reach a large pond.
Now the adventure really begins ! While there is no danger of getting lost, but one must note that the route is right on the Canary water channels in 900 meters above sea level, so that the trail just for the adventurous and those scared of heights is suitable. While you can look at the specific prospects of the southern landscape of the island, it is also applied also to some tunnel through which one must pass in order to enter the path continues to. It might be a flashlight quite helpful. The trail ends in Barranco Badajoz to about 2 hours.
From the sea and extending to the same Teide National Park, it is the mountain range of Güimar. On top of this formation Anocheza running track, which leads to Izaña. The entire route runs along the canal, except for the odd point that we lose sight for a moment. In some places the road is damaged and may be dangerous.
