Myrhorod Resort Ukraine - Город Миргород 2018
Myrhorod (Ukrainian: Ми́ргород) is a city in the Poltava Oblast (province) of central Ukraine. Serving as the administrative center of the Myrhorod Raion (district), the city itself is administratively incorporated as a city of oblast significance and does not belong to the raion. It is located on the Khorol River.
Tourist attractions
Myrhorodska water is described as slightly mineralised natrium chloride water. It is completely clear and tastes a little odd, part of the taste being attributable to what is, in effect, table salt. Many other dissolved minerals also contribute to the taste and, of course, it is the precise balance of these that is thought to produce the claimed health benefits. For its unique health curative effects, Myrhorodska water is recommended by doctors for people suffering from gastritis, colitis and other disorders of the digestive system, particularly those with a lower level of stomach acidity than is considered average.[citation needed] It is also widely drunk as table water because it quenches thirst effectively and produces general effects considered to be beneficial to health.
There are several health resorts in the town (at least four). The most extensive and by far the best equipped of these is 'Myrhorod Kurort' (Ukrainian: Миргород Курорт). This particular spa consists of four individual sanatoria, each one specialising in one or more distinct areas - diabetes, cardiovascular disease, ENT, gastrointestinal problems, etc. and are open for medical treatments six days a week (Sundays excluded). An integral part of any treatment is one of nine diet regimes, although these are recommended and not enforced.
The whole complex is located right in the middle of the city and is spaced out in a large expanse of sandy woodland with the Khorol River providing several areas suitable for bathing. It has a musical fountain, (opened in 2010), and, at night, a large illuminated windmill, (opened in 2011), standing close to the main administrative building. Other features include pedaloes, boats, several restaurants and cafés, dancing, live music, rides through the woods in a horse-drawn carriage, a theatre, organised excursions and a large 'water feature' with geese, ducks (including a couple of Mandarins), a large family of terrapins and some beautiful black swans. Elsewhere in the complex is an enclosure with peacocks and hens, including some rather exotic white ones.
There is another sanatorium, 'The Rainbow', (Ukrainian: Санаторій «Радужний»), within the same grounds as Myrhorod Kurort but with different owners. This is, in the main, frequented by wealthy Ukrainians and Russians who prefer what they regard as the 'added security' of a sanatorium that advertises itself as 'élite'. The other two resorts are much further out of town, not so well maintained and equipped and are both rather 'tired' in appearance, both from the inside and out. One of them, the 'Hohol', (Russian/Ukrainian: Гогол) is owned by a Trades Union and seems to derive most of its clientele from its members.
Generally, English is not widely spoken in any of the spas, only Ukrainian and Russian, although Mirgorod Kurort has occasional visitors from the UK, Germany, France, Dubai, the U.S. and Canada in particular and despite very few foreign visitors speaking more than a couple of words of the local languages, they do seem to be able to get by with some pointing, prodding and smiling.

In 1954 French priest and founder of the Emmaus charity Abbé Peirre said: ''My friends, please help....a woman has just frozen to death. Tonight in all the cities of France this should be heard - those of you who suffer, where ever you might be, with nowhere to sleep, nothing to eat, take hope, we love you.''
Sixty years on since that speech, France and Europe's homeless problem shows no signs of disappearing and actually appears to be getting worse.
In addition, more and more people in Europe are living in poor housing.
Due in large part to the global financial crisis, increasing numbers find themselves in dilapidated accommodation, frequently without basic amenities such as running water and heating.
France's homeless problem appears particularly acute. In the last decade the number of people in poor housing has risen by 50 percent. This affects more than 3.5 million French. Just under 150,000 are living on the street.
But it is not only France. The latest figures show homelessness across Europe has increased. The most notable rises are in those member states hit hardest by the economic crisis, and in big cities like London.
The rise in poverty and social exclusion is also a worrying trend across the EU, with nearly a quarter of the bloc's population suffering.
Equally concerning perhaps is the figure that just under 10 percent of Europeans live in severe deprivation.
Figures suggest women, children and those under the age of 25 find getting proper accommodation and escaping the poverty trap especially difficult. Some 50,000 Roma in France also struggle to obtain social housing.
In Greece, a lack of jobs has pushed thousands onto the streets. One of the fastest growing reasons across Europe for homelessness is when tenancy agreements end and people are unable to find or afford an alternative.

Art and the city - feeling the urban and suburban in modern Russia
(24 Nov 2019) LEAD IN
Beyond the iconic vistas Moscow's suburbs are inspiring a new generation of artists.
Now an massive pan-city project is celebrating the art inspired by everyday life in the Russian capital.
STORY-LINE:
As sleet falls on a cold November day, communist-era apartment blocks dominating Moscow's suburban skyline look bleak and forbidding.
But it's precisely these sprawling city outskirts that are the focus of a major international art exhibition, just opened in the Russian capital.
'Beyond the Centre' is staging art events across Moscow's vast urban space starting this fall and culminating in March 2020.
One of the featured artists, Pasmur Rachuiko, paints the Russia he sees everyday.
All these characters are from my personal world; in fact, they live in your daily routine. When you live in Russia, you just scroll through your Facebook feed, all this symbolic environment is all around you he says.
Hailing from southern Russia, self-taught painter Rachuiko offers an extreme outsider's view of Moscow reality.
Burka-clad figures, policemen and wolves pose in the suburbs, gangsters have angels' wings and young women carrying AK-47 rifles stare out of his canvases.
Pasmur depicts himself as 'everyman' amongst this cast of new Russian archetypes.
The paintings sparked public criticism on social media and disapproval from Moscow's culture department.
But Pasmur has support from the liberal arts establishment
Simon Mraz, director of the Austrian Cultural Forum in Moscow, and curator of the exhibition, says to find the real Moscow you have to go outside the centre to where most of the city's 12.6 million people live.
They all come to Moscow with some dreams, facing struggles and hoping for a better future. But they will not find it, all these people can impossibly realise the future in Red Square, definitely not in the Kremlin, they will never live there, says Mraz.
The city outskirts span its urban history - from 'sleeping' districts built by Soviet town planners to new residential areas strung around its boundary.
A United Nations (UN) report this year concluded that despite steep population decline in Russia, Moscow is growing, fuelled by a steady influx of people in search of jobs and a better life.
Modern Russia is reflected in the capital, a demographic with complex socio-economic layers, whose ethnic mix covers the entire former Soviet space.
In its broad scope 'Beyond the Centre' offers an investigation rather than a complete portrait of Moscow.
It shows a capital city still in formation, experiencing the huge challenges facing Russia in the 21st century.
Urban renewal hasn't yet reached Lyublino, a working-class suburb.
Here in a dilapidated industrial zone, the 'Museum of Industrial Culture' houses a private collection of discarded objects, amassed by former auto engineer Lev Zheleznyov.
It's a social history of over 70 years of communism, told though ordinary things people recognise from a shared past.
This is a museum of memory. Therefore, people come not even for information on an object because not everyone is interested in how many lamps a receiver has, what type the receiver is, but it's interesting for them that such receiver was in someone's home, says Zheleznyov.
Mraz chose Zheleznyov's rusting hangar over Moscow's big state institutions for his exhibition's key collaboration with Austria's prestigious Vienna Museum.

Ukraine: At least 2 injured following overnight shelling of Donetsk - DPR
Two civilians were reportedly injured when the Petrovsky District of Donetsk was hit by shelling overnight from Wednesday to Thursday. Officials of the self-proclaimed Donetsk People’s Republic (DPR) said that pro-Kiev forces hit the outskirts of Donetsk, Gorlovka and Yasinovataya with at least 180 shells.
SOT, Vladimir, local resident (Russian): This happened at around 12:30 AM. I was at home with my wife. I do not know where it [the bombardment] came from, looks like from over there. You can see the destruction. My wife’s legs were hurt by shrapnel, she was treated in hospital. My back was also hurt, I do not know how; they [doctors] did something. Maybe there were some fragments left. I do not know.

ELKHART, Ind -- The Walnut Trails apartment complex in Elkhart has banned all of its tenants from flying flags or banners. One tenant says his rights are being violated because he doesn't have the freedom to fly a flag.
The tenant is Dale Duncan, a 59 year old military veteran. He was flying the National Socialist Flag, similar to a Nazi flag, but the management at the complex told him to take down the flag.
Duncan said he would take his flag down, but only if other residents also took their flags down.
Management agreed. They said there's already a clause in their lease agreement that all of their tenants have signed stating that they will not hang anything outside, including flags or banners.
Duncan is part of one of the largest neo-Nazi groups in the United States, the National Socialist Party based in Detroit.
He says the flag he was displaying was the National Socialist flag.
They violated my First Amendment rights why not I violate theirs, said Duncan. As far as I am concerned that's the greatest flag that ever flown. I'm glad that Hitler brought it up.
Duncan took his flag down. Management at the complex just renewed his lease.
