Reykjavik & Blue Lagoon Geothermal Spa : Nick in Iceland
Produced and featured by Nick Lido's Travel Journal. Nick along with the crew of the Norwegian Sun cruise ship, visited a unique BLUE LAGOON SPA. It creates a life-time memories! A little bit of HISTORY: The Blue Lagoon geothermal spa is one of the most visited attractions in Iceland. The steamy waters are part of a lava formation. The spa is located in a lava field in Grindavík on the Reykjanes Peninsula, southwestern Iceland. Bláa lónið is situated approximately 13 km (8 miles) from the Keflavík International Airport and 39 km (24 miles) from the capital city of Reykjavík. That is roughly a 20 minute drive from the airport and a 40 minute drive from Reykjavík. The Blue Lagoon spa and geothermal complex is clearly visible from satellites orbit.
REYKJAVIK HISTORY: Reykjavík is the capital and largest city in Iceland. Its latitude, at 64°08' N, makes it the world's northernmost capital of a sovereign state. Reykjavík is believed to be the location of the first permanent settlement established around 870 C.E. The city itself was founded in 1786.

Iceland - Blue Lagoon
The most famous lagoon in Iceland, the Blue Lagoon and it's geothermal waters are the perfect place to unwind from a day of adventure around the island.
The Blue Lagoon is one of Iceland’s most popular attractions. The geothermal waters and black volcanic rocks create startling scenery that is truly unique to Iceland. The water is full of minerals, silica and algae and is especially good for the skin and relaxation. In addition to soaking and swimming in the pool, the Blue Lagoon offers in-water massage treatments, saunas and steam rooms and access to a cafe. A few hours of relaxation soaking in the Blue Lagoon is essential to any Iceland visit, and its location between Reykjavik and the airport makes it an easy addition to any trip.

24 Hours in Reykjavik - What to See and Do on a Layover in Iceland | 90+ Countries with 3 Kids
Welcome to Reykjavík Iceland!
With a 24-hour daylight in summer and more than 40 festivals, Reykjavik is the new city that never sleeps. The world's most northerly capital has a population of only 120,000, but what it lacks in people it makes up for in culture. Reykjavik is located on a peninsula shaped like a dragon's head and is tucked into a sheltered bay in south-west Iceland filled with dramatic views of the adjacent mountains across the water to the north.
Reykjavík's name is derived from the Icelandic words for smoke, reykur, and bay, vík. Legend says that in the year 874, Norseman Ingólfur Arnarson, who was in fact its first inhabitant, saw Iceland rising out of the misty sea and came ashore at a bay steamed by hot springs in the vicinity of present day Reykjavík. Today most of the houses in Reykjavík are heated by near-boiling water from the hot springs and because of this natural heating there is no air pollution. You may notice, however, that the hot water brings a slight sulfur smell to the bathroom. Ingólfur is honored with a statue on a small hill called Arnarhóll in the middle of Reykjavík.
The best way to explore Reykjavik in its full light is to experience Iceland's pure thermal energy and take a dip in one of Reykjavík's many thermal pools and spas! It’s a great source of natural therapy and an important part of Icelandic culture and a tonic for the body and mind!

Is Iceland's Blue Lagoon A Lavish Luxury? | Destination Debunkers
INSIDER's A.C. Fowler heads to Iceland's Blue Lagoon, a natural hot spring. Is it a lavish luxury or an overpriced public pool?
The Blue Lagoon is in Grindavík, a 45-minute drive from Iceland's capital Reykjavík, a quickly growing tourist hot spot. The area is a perfect blend of city and country living.
A.C. tests how crowded it is, if it's worth the $58 admission, and if the lagoon's water and mud really have healing properties.
The Blue Lagoon is one of the most visited destinations in Iceland. 80% of tourists who come to the country trek to the famous thermal waters.
While the physical lagoon is man-made, the natural geothermal waters are sourced from a nearby geothermal field.
The peak season is the summer, so the best time to visit the Blue Lagoon is in the winter.
CEO Grímur Sæmundsen said, To be in the Blue Lagoon and having the Northern Lights, there's nothing that beats it.
The Blue Lagoon also acts as a facility for skin care research, so it makes sense that its biggest selling point is its natural silica mud masks.
Make sure you head to the lagoon early in the day to beat the crowds. Keep it mind that it can be pricey, so make sure you're picking a package that fits your needs. And don't be afraid to lather on the complimentary silica masks.
