Iceland Vlog: Day 16 (Reykjavik)
Welcome back to our Iceland road trip travel vlog! Today we take you to the capital, Reykjavik!
Day 16:
- We woke up early and drove to Reykjavik, it was about a 50min drive from our campsite.
- We had been worried about where we were going to park as it was a Saturday and there was a music and arts festival taking place, but we were very lucky to find a parking space for free about 10mins from the city centre.
- First of all we went to the famous Hellgrimskirkja Church, which is supposedly designed to look like mountains and glaciers of Iceland. We went inside (free) and then went to the top of the tower (8€ per person) to look at the views of the city!
- We then walked around the city, through the beautiful streets and looked in the local shops, and of course the souvenir shops to get something special to remember Iceland.
- After that we had some of Iceland´s famous hotdogs for lunch and ate them in a beautiful square where there was a medieval fair.
- We then walked around Tjornin Lake, listening to the music coming from various parts of the city.
- Then we decided to visit the harbour where there are various things to see and do, we went to Kolaportid Flea Market, the Harpa Concert Hall and Grandi, an area of modern cafés and restaurants.
- After that we went to the famous shopping street, Laugavegur and then to Pingholten, and beautiful neighbourhood with colourful houses, street art and lovely squares.
- We then went for a well deserved drink in an Irish Pub (very expensive) and relaxed before heading back out to see the different music events in the city. We ended up sitting on the grass to watch the biggest concert of the day which had various famous Icelandic bands and singers.
- To end our amazing day, we had dinner at a Thai restaurant and then had a drink in a nice bar, where they had live music.
- We drove back to the same campsite we had stayed at the night before and went straight to bed, as to get up early the next day for our last day in Iceland and our visit to the Blue Lagoon!

24 hours in Reykjavik with easyJet - was it so easy? Iceland adventures on a budget!
When you've got no annual leave left at work, but still fancy an escape to the most sparsely populated country in Europe, easyJet makes it possible! I left Edinburgh on Saturday afternoon and was back late on Sunday. It was however November - so of 24 hours on the ground, only 6 were in daylight :) Was it worth it? Find out right here! specialtours.is offer the original Northern Lights by boat tour from Reykjavík. Enjoy the warm cosy insides of our boats as we sail out to escape the Reykjavík city lights and go searching for the Northern lights in the dark winter sky. Note that we only need to sail out for about 10-15 min to escape the bright city lights.

Forget white tropical beaches - and let us tempt you with a dip from a gloomy beach in Iceland, called; Grótta.
Water temp; 10°C / 50°F
Air temp; 13°C / 55.4°F
What is better than a fresh night dip in the sea? Especially with someone you love. Near the heart of Reykjavik there are several beaches, most Icelanders enjoy a swim in the north Atlantic ocean - some even during winter time.
We go as often as we can to watch the sun go down (although it does not completely go down in the summer), sometimes, like we did last night, we jump into the dark cold water. Kim is not as accustomed to these refreshing dips as Péturs is, in fact this is actually Kim's first dip since we moved to Iceland - A sight that Petur pleasures to experience.
Enjoy!
